Did anyone else get this email from Stars Draft saying that Florida residents cannot play anymore? WTF? Is this a site specific thing or a harbinger of things to come?!?!?!?

Chris Grove of Legal Sports Report tweeted that a grand jury is meeting in Florida to consider pressing charges against DFS operators. Presumably in a preemptive move, StarsDraft has shut off players who are Florida residents.

Do you think this will lead to more sites shutting off Florida players? FanDuel has an office in the state, and obviously some of the game’s bigger players are from FL.

Just received this email from StarsDraft: Is there ambiguity in the laws here or has something just transpired in Tallahassee?

    “Notice to Florida Residents

You are receiving this notice because your account lists Florida as your registered state of residence.

Following a recent management review of our terms and conditions, we have elected to no longer accept contest entries or deposits from Florida residents.

    Please Withdraw Any Available Funds

Starting today, your account will no longer be able to participate in our fantasy sports contests. If your account has withdrawable funds, your account will only retain login and withdrawal capabilities on the StarsDraft.com website.

All entries to contests that have yet to start will be refunded to your account. All entries in active contests will payout normally once the contests finish.

Once you have withdrawn all available account balances, your account access will be closed. Please make sure that you withdraw your entire available balance as soon as possible.

We apologize for the abrupt change in policy and hope to be able to reopen access if there is any future change to this restriction.”

But it says Federal Grand Jury not just Florida…still quite confusing

  • Zwett

    From their site..
While the U.S. government allows citizens to participate in real money fantasy sports contests, individual states are allowed to make their own legislation. After careful review, our lawyers have determined that legal residents or people physically located in Arizona, Iowa, Florida, Louisiana, Montana, and Washington may not play in real money fantasy sports contests on StarsDraft at this time. Residents or people physically located in Michigan will be restricted from depositing on StarsDraft.

Dang this sucks wonder how long before all the sites shut out Florida?

For live contests, they will let them complete. However, if you entered anything into tomorrow for NFL, you have been “punted” and they have told you to withdraw all funds

I think this has to do with stars prior poker issues. amaya playing it safe as they just got permission enter the nj online poker market and are working on other states.

FD and dk should have different parameters and likely won’t be phased by this

this… 100% political move by starsdraft

  • y2mulder

If Florida is convening a GRAND JURY, they want the operators out. Starsdraft is just beating everyone to the moving trucks.

LOL, but its ok, you can go to any of the crooked casinos in Florida and stick your money in and watch their machines just eat it all because they make them so tight. United States government and Florida law are both bullshit and retarded.

OOPS, forgot you can also bet on horses and dogs, but daily fantasy sports is a HUGE NONO!!

    Exactly.

The states with the casino revenue are fighting the hardest. Michigan was a perfect example of that. Nevada wont be far behind. And now this weeks events gave them the smoking gun to use.

  • Stars_Mike

    Hi all –

I just wanted to clarify that if you are affected by the recent restrictions in Florida, and have a balance under $20, please e-mail support@starsdraft.com and we will be able to manually cashout your remaining cash balance.

Hoping we are able to bring DFS to all states and jurisdictions with full confidence and clarity in the future.

MIke, any advice if who I should be contacting in my state to voice my displeasure?

You should start with the DFS site that started this mess.
