Hey guys, I’ve been decent at NFL and MLB DFS for a couple years but really want to transition into NBA DFS now that NFL is over. I’ve played some NBA before but have never really been a winner at it. I have a Fantasylabs subscription which helps but do you have any other tips or good reads for starting off. Thanks!

Just a things I’ve learned over the 3 seasons of playing NBA DFS.

defense vs position is your friend but it shouldn’t be your only friend: (view it from the entire season, last 10 games, and last 5 or if a team had an injury)

look for value plays: if someone is injured and you can get a cheap starter at min price.

Also, if a star is out be sure to target some of the other starters that will get a usage boost b/c of the star being out (Middleton when Giannis is out, Beal when Wall is out, guys like that)

stay up to date with alerts (I made a list on twitter of all the NBA beat writers that I find very helpful)

start off with 50/50’s and single entries. You will not win big money any time soon no matter how good you think you are. If you only play 1 LU stick it in a single entry. No sense going up against people with 100’s of LUs.

trust your gut, don’t overthink it. Some people try to get too cute on here and end up recommending the dumbest plays.

Don’t worry about ownership. Chalk is chalk for a reason. Your goal is to put together the LU you think will get the most points. Sometimes chalk is part of that.

Also, if you do visit the NBA daily forum on here, be careful who you listen to. There are some very “loud” people with very poor rankings. Always check a person’s profile to see if they have their accounts linked to rotogrinders. Such an easy way to verify if someone kinda sorta knows what they are talking about. Now that doesn’t mean that if someone’s accounts aren’t linked they aren’t worth knowing, but if you like what someone has to say and their are ranked highly that is someone you want to listen to.

I’m sure others will add more.

    Good luck!

You will need to construct a lineup where all 9 players must perform exceptionally well in relation to their salary just to have a prayer’s hope in cashing. For example, Westbrook was a bad play last night because his score didn’t pay off the huge salary. 12K salary needs a 60+ score.

And expect all your hard work and research to go right down the toliet when your players gets injured which happens every night. Might want to invest in a punching bag to deal with the stress of NBA DFS.

step one, cancel your labs subscription. You don’t need to pay $60 a month so they can take every players salary and multiply it by 4.8 -5.3 to get a projection. I’m not sure what kind of volume you are playing but that makes it harder when you have to account for your subscription fees in your ROI. Notice you don’t see CSUram really playing that much anymore, there is a reason for that.

Step two, NBA is horrible for DFS. All these sites do a fantastic job convincing you a certain player is going to crush it and half the time they don’t. Don’t buy into projections and opinions like they are the answer key to a test. They are far from that yet after hours of staring at numbers and hearing experts tout guys, you become a believer and think your team is solid.

The other issue, everyone has something when it comes to help and all the info is good. So even though you think you have an edge because you used RG, labs, hq, nerd, cruncher, and the 100 other sites I didn’t mention. The people you are playing have the same access to the same info as you.

Cash games are horrible and no one grinds cash out like they used to so the money is in GPP’s so start by playing contest that have maxed entries, it’s the only shot you really have. Or just play lotto
