Daily fantasy Tennis is just like Nascar contests. You never know when a player is going to crash out and wreck your whole line up. But you know its going to happen….

Don’t know much about tennis but if it’s not injury related why would she wait so long to wd.

Winners of golf tournaments the previous week withdraw a lot but do it days before the tournament starts

I think the bigger worry may be a let down match after tons of celebrating and not really caring about this tournament with the open next week

My (bad) model was already spitting out 100% Kontaveit (without any of the narrative, obviously—just based on ranking points, age, odds, and some other factors). What the hell, I’ll go for it. Hope you’re right. I put $20 on Bertens on a sportsbook as a hedge.

Yep Bertens withdrew. Lucky loser for Kontaveit.

Is the match still at 12?

Are players just there waiting around to see if someone withdraws?

  • skleni

Yeah, you have to enter a lucky loser list to be eligible in the case of a withdraw…often players are at the venue anyway for training/promotion/etc….

  • thetitanlb

This Giorgi Vs Bencic line feels funny to me. Why is Giorgi such a big favorite?

  • thetitanlb

Well i guess Bencic is in bad form while Giorgi is in good form.

  • bigperm0107

I dont know enough about tennis. Does Kontaveit just play a back up player and will still get regular points or is there no points given or how does that work?

That is how it works for first round matches

  • bigperm0107

    Ok, thank you.

  • Cal_Naughton_Jr

Atleast she withdrew with “illness” early thats give you time to edit line ups

  • bigperm0107

stupid question but does this make kontaveit a lock? lol

Nothing is ever a lock my friend.

Not a stupid question…I’m searching trying to see if there is a line out for kontaveit/parmentier anywhere. It would be a lock if she was a huge underdog to begin with and then got a LL

  • skleni

She is definitely a great value now, so for cash she is a lock I think. However, fading her could be a good move in GPPs, especially in women’s tennis anything can happen..

  • bigperm0107

Thanks guys. So basically she could go up against someone decent and take a beating?

I’m still seeing the line for the original matchup.

Ownership on bertens may be pretty high I’m thinking. Cheap and basically a coin flip. Hope many did not see the wd

Yeah but in This situation I don’t see her taking a beating

  • OttawaCityMadman

The rules arent as strict maybe? Easier to get fill in for the early rnds… But they wait till warm ups and if anything feels tight they bail.

  • hendog

    • 2017 DraftKings FFWC Finalist

I have no idea why, but Kontaveit was already the favorite against Bertens. Now she’s playing against the 70th-ranked player instead of the 13th-ranked player. Unless the initial Kontaveit-Bertens odds were based heavily on Bertens being not expected to put in a serious effort, Kontaveit should be even more of a favorite against Parmentier.

I don’t think it’s enough to make her a lock, but I was already heavy on Kontaveit and I’m not changing anything.

Edit: yeah, the more important factor is the possibility of dead lineups with Bertens.

  • skleni

Odds are 1.2 for Kontaveit, 4.5 for Parmentier according to BetVictor

  • Cal_Naughton_Jr

Would not surprise me in the least Tommy Paul winning today guys battles on every shot

and Parmentier winning today as the LL womens tennis is crazy lol

I ran this through Ken Massey’s prediction system (which works a lot better for sports other than tennis it must be said) and it gives Kontaveit at 89% to win, 52% to win in straight sets.

But she wasn’t an underdog to begin with; she’s priced well over the break-even line.
