Hello RotoGrinders golf community, I have been quietly observing you guys over the last couple of months and I am ready to join in the fun. I love the interesting observations and the hilarious overreactions to every shot.

I just got third in the Mayo contest so my bankroll just increased a lot. What contests would be a good step up from the $15 Mayo? I like either single entry or three max contests and fairly flat payout structure. What do you guys play?

  • sneaksox

Big congrats to Dunzor on his FGWC seat! Congrats to the other winners as well.

Very excited to watch another new course this weekend. Looks like there is water on almost every hole, could be some bigger scores this week. Definitely looking at driving accuracy on this one.

You might want to play some of the larger single-entry double-ups, like $25, $50, $100, or $250. Definitely a flat payout structure (obv), and great chances of hitting them. I usually play a double-up that will mostly cover my other GPP entries if they aren’t too successful. I’d say my double-up hits about 75% of the time, although I did not do well this weekend with 2 MCs in my LU.

Home game for Tom Hoge…look up his AM results in the state and when he use to play in mini tours up near Fargo where he’s from. I know him personally and I could see him tearing up this event as a nice lil sleeper.

You can take a shot at the Club Twirl, but if you’re looking for more limited entry events, there is often a $33 single entry dogleg that gets posted usually in the 2nd round of contests. There is a $12 single entry (i think called the albatross) that is run every week. If you’re looking to move up even further there is almost always a $150 3max available. I also like to dedicate part of my gpp to satellites to get into even bigger small field events, so there are usually a number of sattys in the $6-25 range to qualify for the $444 or $555, as well as taking a shot at the FGWC (though that is certainly not a flat structure since all the value is in the top couple spots)

Thanks! This week’s course looks interesting. Like you said a lot of water in play, but also seems like a course where guys will be hitting a lot of drivers (it’s a pretty long par 71), so I think I would look more at Total Driving than just accuracy because some of the short hitters who are super accurate that had success the last couple weeks on more 3W + Wedge courses are going to struggle more here. The scores might still be pretty low this week because of a few short par 4s and the three par 5s, but guys are gonna need to be on their game with their drivers & long irons to do it.

  • BirdiesandBengals

Good suggestion, maybe I will try some of the higher dollar double ups and if I continue to do well, try out the $150 3max.

I’m making a charge, picked up 75 pts in the last six weeks. Now I just need a big finish in the final major or the playoffs to get those bonus points to have a chance. td33dzul has been a crusher all season

td33dzul has never posted I think, but he won $30K in a $5 contest last year!

Recently brought to my attention that I should share the link to Mayo’s page, rather than the rake free link itself. (I assume it helps to get the clicks). So PME rake free is out now (only 2500 spots this week):

I’m gonna assume that Doc Redman draws much higher ownership this week at only $7200 after his second place last week. The question is whether that finish propels him to keep the momentum going or if the off the field craziness of qualifying for the Open and getting PGA tour status draws his focus away from the tourney this week and he disappoints

  • TrustinthePlan

Don’t know if this link will work, but this is a good writeup I found about the course this week. Lots of water in play and seemingly lots of driver holes. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1HLPijNui8gZLsZD0FaxitADMKSdcSnksDqZZvNUKPiY/edit

I posted a bunch of H2H’s at various price points for this weeks beat the forum in the league.

    I started out with

    15 – $1
    10 – $2
    10 – $3
    4 – $5
    2 – $10

I am coming off a 2/6 on a new course last week so this week will be free money if I do that again.

  • Dunzor

Ugh, Kyle Stanley WD from this week’s event. He was a guy I was really liking this week and he was underpriced too.

last week was life altering for Doc and Nate. I wonder about the same thing. They both deserve a break to relax because they both have been going balls out. Dont want to mess with the game as long as its clicking.

I really like the angle of they both worked for the extra opportunity and against all odds succeeded.
regression/preparation/post celebration….who knows but it will be interesting to see. I am rooting for them.

Wait Brooks is playing here? How come he’s playing so much? I think he actually cares about non-majors but for some reason his game just hasn’t done well on non-major courses. If he didn’t care, he has no incentive to keep playing RBC Canadian Open, Travelers, and now 3M. He could just pull a Adam Scott or Justin Rose or Tiger Woods and not play anything. You only have to add 1 new event a year (and he plays the Asian events too, even the Dunlop Phoenix Open which he’s won twice), you don’t have to keep playing.

I actually have a theory that Brooks actually cares about non-majors almost more than anyone on Tour, but for some reason, his game isn’t suited for non-majors and thus only does well in Majors.

He’s played in Europe, Asia, and North America in his career. I think he actually likes to travel a lot and play different golf courses, so he tries to play everywhere, but maybe his game isn’t suited for these courses so he doesn’t always do that well….but it’s not the same as not caring (like he won the CJ Cup and the Dunlop Phoenix Open in Asia before, why would anyone “care” about those?). If he didn’t care, he would just not play. You aren’t required to play more than 1 new PGA event a year, and Brooks is like literally playing every event the last 2 months.

I read the quote when he lost the Dunlop Phoenix Open last fall (after winning it last 2 years, including a ridiculous 9 shots over Xander in 2017) that was was super pissed and was pretty mad at his whole game. That doesn’t sound like someone who doesn’t care. More like someone who cared about winning but the golf course/game didn’t play well at that particular course.

But Niemann is the Wonder Boy. Until he has to make a 10 foot birdie. Then he turns into Keegan Bradley at every event except the Traverlers.

  • Tsrobertson

    Niemann or Sabbatini?

I mean Finau is scuffling a bit, he’s coming off 3 straight MC and 2 60th place finishes in his last 6 tourneys (with his 2nd place mixed in).

  • BrianVT

Brooks just likes to keep us all guessing in this crazy world of golf DFS. You could either make the call now that “you guys were crazy not to play Brooks in this weak field” when he crushes everyone, or get ready for “why the hell would you ever play Brooks in a non-major”, and you basically have a 50/50 shot of being on the right side of either argument.

For me, based on how a lot of these sort of in-between-majors tournaments have been lining up lately, it’s not making much sense to take the most expensive guy in the field, regardless of who it is. I’m going with the fade and sticking to it – not caving to the FOMO this time.
