    Any word on team projections?

  • Eric_Alan

    Hey there,

New BAT subscriber here. I know the projections are updated every 5 minutes. What happens to each player’s projections once a game actually starts? Are they locked in and saved (able to be accessed in the CSV file)? Do they keep updating as the game plays (that would be strange)? Are they removed and deleted (that would suck)? If they are saved, how long is the full day’s CSV file with the final projections for each player available?

Basically, if I want to download the day’s final projections for each game at the end of the night by downloading a single CSV file after the last games of the day begin, will I be able to do so? Thank you!

    Best regards,
    Eric

To that end, I recall Derek discussing something last year about THE BAT being combined with the team projection subscription into THE BAT being all inclusive (with the podcasts, team projections, etc that was a separate subscription last year). Was this combined or is it the same where there’s a separate subscription for team/supplementary content? Thanks!

There is a separate supplementary content package out there right now on the marketplace which is cheaper than last year (Down from $125 to $99). However if you look at the package details the team info is not longer listed so it looks like the only thing in that secondary package is the daily podcasts and you can watch all of the training videos he made last year but the way it is worded it sounds like there won’t be any new ones.

So pretty much you would be paying an extra $100 just for the daily podcasts. IMO you almost have to get the podcasts as it is really helpful to get Derek’s take on the slate everyday and how to interrupt what the BAT is saying. Throughout the year it there will be around 100 or so podcasts at $1 a piece which is not terrible if you play everyday all year.

  • bigez952

This is what is currently listed as what the second package includes for $99, It would be interesting to know if the team projections are gone or still available since they were part of this package last year. #3 is included in the chat room so it comes with the BAT and not unique to this package so to me it looks like this is only for the podcasts if you had it last year and already watched all the training videos.

Derek Carty’s THE BAT Supplementary Content

Love THE BAT and want more from its creator? Enjoy loads of bonus content:
    1) Daily mini-podcasts with thoughts on the day’s DFS slate (5-15 minutes each, 4-5x per week)
    2) Access to video lesson archive on important or misunderstood DFS concepts
    3) A weekly, no-holds-barred chat session with Carty

how frequently is the bat updated? are the updates automated (ex. weather, lineups, bullpen), so they will always be up to date as the day goes on?

THE BAT updates on a five-minute loop with all the most up-to-date info. (Technically the weather only updates every two hours, with the final run of weather being incorporated into the 6:40 or 6:45 PM ET update, but everything else gets folded in immediately.)

Good question. If the game starts at 7:05 ET, the projection locks at 7:05 ET. That locked projection remains on the site and in the CSV download file throughout the entire night. It only gets removed once the next day’s projections get loaded. Last year that happened at midnight ET, I imagine this year will be the same.

Team projections are not going to be part of the Supplementary Content package this year. (As someone noted, the price is lower this year, and that’s why.) They’ll still be available publicly, but seeing as how they are much more geared towards sports betting, and with sports betting on the verge of legalization, they are going to be at a different site this year (a sports betting content site).

Thank you! I agree with what you are saying completely and had planned on getting the pods one way or another was just making sure I hadn’t purchased it already with THE BAT. The podcasts alone are well worth it and the Tuesday chats are great as well. Thanks again bigez952!

When do opening day projections go live? And how do we access?

Projections from one day to the next normally switch at midnight each day so they will for sure be there by midnight on Wednesday March 28th. To get at the BAT I click on the little person in the upper right hand corner of the Rotogrinders webpage then go to “manage subscriptions”. If you click on the BAT from there it will take you to the BAT model as well as the chat room.

It’s a new site, hasn’t launched yet (though they should be available on Opening Day even before it launches). I’ll have info on Twitter next week.

As bigez952 said, they flip each night at midnight. For Opening Day, I’m shooting to have them up on Monday or Tuesday to give a little time before the start of the season

  • Schlerfs

Really amateur player here, who has had success in season long leagues. Looking forward to using The BAT to help inform my selections. My goal is to take my daily bankroll and split it between GPP (focusing on one with multiple line-ups), and taking the other half and playing single entry double-ups. I understand there are different strategies to the two contests and will play 15ish stacked line-ups in one GPP and then develop 1 – 3 lineups using more consistent options in the double-ups. Any thoughts or suggestions from the vets out here on whether this is a sound strategy? Thanks in advance.

Used the bat last year and really liked it. Thinking about it again this year, how much does the price increase after next week?

Don’t have an official price yet, likely either $25 or $50

On the marketplace I don’t see a monthly option. Did you take that away this year?

It’ll be available once the season starts

  • blimes

Was a subscriber last year are there any changes this year compared to last? And just as a a confirmation there will be a csv export?

    Thanks

    Derek,

Looking forward to this. It’ll be my first season playing MLB DFS and I’m hoping the combination of both the packages will help it become a profitable learning experience.

Will there be a monthly option for the additional package, or is it just ‘season only’ for $99? $250 in one fell swoop is tough for me right now.

    Thanks!

May have been answered already but curious about the dataset – does this notate for example if a pitcher throws 35% sliders, and point out that a batter excels/struggles vs sliders or specific pitch types? Or does it mostly focus on GB/FB bvp splits?

Only under-the-hood stuff. Hoping to roll out some big upgrades mid-year. And yes, there will be CSV

It doesn’t yet, but it’s something I plan on working in and hope to release mid-year. There is just sooooo many ways the raw data that you see people quote is flawed. I went into detail about it earlier in this thread, here: https://rotogrinders.com/threads/the-bat-2369244?page=2#reply-2383470

It doesn’t use BvP either, since that has been shown many times over to be completely useless. It accounts for GB/FB profiles, though, as well as overall player quality in every stat category as well as a ton of other stuff: https://rotogrinders.com/pages/how-the-bat-works-1242325
