Will be interesting to see what big names show up that would not normally for this tournament.

Woo Hoo – PGA Tour golf is back !!

  • whodat2

Figured we could get started early, as we will all be exited to have the PGA back! Since these are unprecedented times, more time for research is needed in my opinion. One thing that I did….. I went back to our last global pandemic, the 1918 Spanish flu. The one thing that I found out in doing so, is that I can say with 100% certainty, that none of the guys on tour right now were playing in any tournaments back then. Kind of brings us back to square one I guess.

    Glad to be back gents!

Already saw the Top 5 in the world are playing plus 2 others in Top 10 so the field will be stacked.

Of the others in the Top 10 not playing, Cantlay has not confirmed yet but still may play (they have until next Friday June 5th at 5pm to commit) – it did not sound like Adam Scott or Fleetwood are going to make it.

This field will end up looking a lot like a Players Championship field with most of the top guys and basically all of the Top 125 plus a few guys not far behind trying to score some much needed Fed Ex points.

Ha ha – thanks for that bud, I hope you and the restaurant have survived the virus and come out stronger once we get a full return to normalcy !

I’ve used the downtime the past couple weeks to try and scour Twitter and Mini-Tour leaderboards to get an idea of who has been playing and practicing versus those who have been self-isolating and homeschooling their kids. Lots of unknowns still but I did learn a little….

Was looking at Fantasy National earlier, for past history at Colonial, and many of the top golfers have no rounds there. Not from PGA competition anyway. Nice wrinkle into the equations that are going to make this week very interesting. The first week of the NFL season always holds many crapshoots, but this is different. Current form? Yeah, right.

First post in almost 6 years – welcome back 👍

Agreed – this is like Opening day in other sports except we know who the rookies are and everyone gets at least 36 holes of playing time; regardless it will be a crap shoot trying to figure out if the Top 5 players in the world are worth their 10K+ salaries on a non-bombers course with little/no course history especially when we don’t know how much they’ve played and practiced over the past few weeks/months (no recent form and little to no course history).

Getting yourself back in competitive shape is different for every player; some can do it without much prep time and others need those reps – gonna be a lot of cursing on here on Thurs-Fri when a few of the chalk guys bust and MC.

  • timgodd375

Fade the chalk for me most likely, just try to find the lowest owned guys at good prices haha

Hopefully they have a huge SE $200 contest

  • Arbond

    Yeah, don’t know how I lost my way…for 6 years…but I’m a different DFS’er now, than then.

I’m probably going go light on my whole tournament plays, and then go heavier on showdowns for each day, and the post cut weekender.

What are some other comparibles to Colonial? I think Harbor Town (next week’s RNC Heritage) is one. Memorial? Sawgrass?

  • byo34

Quarantines drove me crazy, I’m ready to lock in Jordan Spieth.

I wouldn’t think Memorial would be comparable.

Other short tight ones besides Harbour Town would include Innisbrook CC (Valspar tourney in Tampa) as well as a course they played the AT&T and Quicken Loans National tourney but don’t play it anymore since 2017 it was at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm GC. Sawgrass might fit a little but not perfectly.

    What is PGR?

PGR is the per-round stroke difference relative to the 100th best player in the world. PGR controls for a number of factors that are not properly accounted for by OWGR and is a more accurate reflection of current form.

Check out the latest rankings here! There are two tabs — the first tab is the full list and the second tab is a more detailed breakdown of the top 250 players over the last 17 weeks.

I am just excited to finally have golf back..I have been playing some cheap tourneys in Nascar and NO word of a lie within the first 5 minutes I have at least two cars flipped over in red every time..LOL..

I’ll play some Spieth. Maybe he found something or possibly got his head screwed on straight during this layoff.

Going to also target players from abroad like Christian Bezunhuiodt. They’ve got to be all in…extra committed.

You may want to do a deeper dive on some of the foreign guys and see what their home countries were like in terms of lockdowns – could they even play/practice in their country ?

I’ve seen a few guys say they didn’t touch a club for 4-5 weeks and others who were “hunkered down” in Florida were playing almost every day.

  • mitchsnyderdfw

Might be important to note: This tournament in the past played as an invitational, which meant it was limited to 120 players. With the current state of the sports due to the pandemic this is a full field tournament now with 148 players. Should see a low 6/6%, especially if the top bombers have have tough time with the tight fairways and crippling doglegs.

Also, I thought I was up for the Beat the Forum this week, but it seems I was replaced. Sorry @kps3205s wasn’t really paying attention to that thread the last couple months. If that is the case, I’ll just throw some high dollar H2H’s in the forum.

This kinda sucks in my opinion as I was hoping they’d play a different course some where but at least it is still Golf every week going forward…..

It’s back-to-back tournament weeks for Muirfield Village Golf Club.

In a memo sent to PGA Tour players on Tuesday and obtained by Golfweek, the PGA Tour has reached an agreement in principle with Workday as the title sponsor for a tournament that will be held at Jack Nicklaus’s golf club in Dublin, Ohio.

The tournament will be played July 9-12 and replace the John Deere Classic, which was canceled.

The tournament will come one week before The Memorial, Nicklaus’ annual gathering of the best players in the world at Muirfield Village.

The tour said the replacement tournament will feature a field of 156 players and be played without spectators. It will be the fifth event of the PGA Tour’s restart of the season that was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Each of those events will be played without spectators. There is no official word yet if The Memorial will allow spectators. The Memorial will have a field of 120. (*** this last point may not be correct as I thought the Invitationals were told to increase their field sizes to 144 this year because of the lost playing opportunities due to lost tournaments because of Covid ***) has

The PGA Tour will issue a full release with more details in the coming days.
