In this kind of climate, everyone has insulated lines and/or a heat trace installed on them.

I take for granted how lucky we are to have the infrastructure to survive these brutally cold winters every year. Seeing what’s happening in Texas is really eye opening as to how lucky we really are.

Yah, even though it is a once in 100 years type of event in Texas, I’m sure people will think and act differently when building or renovating homes. Paying a few hundred extra upfront for insulated or heat traced lines is cheap “piece of mind insurance” for the biggest purchase in someone’s life.

those people in texas are in a pickle with this. My first thought of when the temps go to 0 is making sure the water pipes dont freeze. I cant imagine in Texas thats a priority when they build. pipes near the outside walls. One frozen pipe makes for a hell of a week. tough enough to clean up after a flood, but impossible to clean up ICE. It was -1 in dallas this morning when my temp in Chicago was 9 degrees. I immeadiatly thought of frozen pipes, but I tuned into a dallas tv channel (fox Tim Ryan lol) only mentioned people without power ( a massive amount), I am sure the busted pipes will be the next headline.

It’s not really the busted pipes. Someone wasn’t thinking during the rolling blackout and shut off power to the water treatment plant that supplies water to half of DFW. Once they realized their mistake, they tried to turn them back on. Unfortunately during the time of no power, the temperature was around 8 F, so the water in the pumps froze. I need this golf tournament to start to take my mind off of this mess.

Is Xander going to be high owned this week?

Tee times posted – the MKF rapid fires have mostly AM vs. PM matchups for round 1 right now, and most of the PM guys are also getting an additional 1/2 stroke. (Last year, PM played roughly .5-1 strokes more difficult, iirc.)

Edit: for reference, I like Rahm (vs. DJ +.5), JT (vs. McIlroy +.5), Cantlay (vs. DeChambeau +.5), Finau (vs. Schauffele +.5), Matsuyama (vs. Brooks +.5)

Not wild about the FP matchups, despite being very similar, because I could see DJ or Bryson, specifically, outscoring the AM guys there.

I went DJ over Rahm with both the strokes and FPs (I’m definitely bullish on DJ this week). Everyone else in both I’m getting the .5.

As an aside…you can now cancel any Berger contests you may have entered.

Just saw on twitter that Morikawa is changing to the “saw” putting grip after talks he had with Mark O’Meara.

I mean.. he can’t get worse with the flat stick.. right?

Yeah, it sucks to be forced to fade DJ. But as a rule (99% of the time) I don’t play contests based on weather/tee-times/etc and then make exceptions. I reserve the exceptions for 5/5’s where I need a differentiating player.

Very nice reply. It is a bad perception when the vocal minority is all you remember. So many good people I’ve met in my life. Mostly ordinary Joes but happy with where they are and appreciative of life in general. Smile on, SmileyK

They are both morning though. I’m just giving the .5 instead of taking it. I don’t look at that as an exception.

You are correct. I am dumb and want to change that pick now.

The bets I’m drawn to most right off the bat are the 2/2 under 69.5 guys for day 1. Right now it’s Bryson/Cantley and Tony/Xander. I will take a few shots on those guys all shooting -2 or better in perfect conditions.

Ok guys, I am trying a zeep 22 block this week.

Pros and Cons of using such guarantee blocks.

    Pros

It allows me more selections, with a different guarantee depending on which block I use.

The selections still might line up together outside the guarantee.

    Cons

The selections tend to be spread out equally within the block.

For the guarantee to work, I can’t weight some selections over others.

Of course, I still need to pick the right guys and groups.

Hopefully those hit Thursday and Friday and then (assuming the wind holds up) we can get good lines for potential carnage on Saturday afternoon

Now that other college kid (from the playoff) is in the tournament (and DK) after Ogletree WD.

  • ifthethunder

I guess Luke is on our Lists. And J.T. Poston, too. So here’s a question: Is Matt Kuchar daid or some such?

First time for me checking in this week, have 2 couples without power staying with us in Houston. Know a dozen or so people with busted pipes. Almost forgot about dfs with everything going on.

Yah Ogletree was a sponsors exemption so the Genesis folks decided to use it on the Univ of San Fran kid Tim Widing who lost a playoff in the play-in college event instead of going to the Alternate list.

Yea I’m one of those people in texas unfortunately. I live in Houston and was without power and water for almost 48 hours. Just came back on like an hour and half ago. We were having to go out to the truck and sit in the heat and charge phones periodically.

Home building here may be different than it is there. For the most part inventory homes are built similarly as far as insulation. The only time you get into doing things different is when you build custom which then comes with building on your own land and not buying in a regular neighborhood per say.
