Seems like a weak field compared to past years. I guess with the new schedule it makes sense. Most of the top guys would rather play Bay Hill than PGA National.

My annual warnings about this tourney:
    1. If the wind blows, expect a ton of carnage – if the wind doesn’t blow, still expect some carnage

    2. This tourney annually has the highest number of WDs after it starts – last 3 years (4,5,3 WDs) – seems like a couple guys every year just pack it in if they are playing bad as this course can expose your C- game in a big way.

    3. We are done with Poa-Plinko greens for a while now and this week these TifEagle Bermuda greens are fantastic (normally) so putting stats and especially Bermuda putting finally means something again

    4. Greens here are an average size but more difficult than average to hit because of wind/water and the mental mind-fuck that this course is (I love watching this tourney for those reasons).

One final thing to watch for is if you have guys finishing up Friday on the back nine, you better hope they have a shot or two to play with as the Bear Trap #15-17 is a water filled bogey and double-bogey stretch that often ruins rounds (especially if it is windy).

There are going to be some players severely overpriced.

I love the scheduling changes. Unfortunately, as mentioned above, players will now pick and choose in Florida.
Although they could play all of March and sit out the Valero before the Masters.

  • bigez952

This tournament is probably the one most negatively effected by the schedule change as this field will be significantly weaker than it has been the last few years.

Hmmm is Daniel Berger back or was the field just so soft last week he shined?

Glad to see Paddy in the field. 🇮🇪 ☘️

    BEAR TRAP TIME

Looks like a good chance of rain on Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by very little wind Thurs-Sat. It’s early, but the course could be soft and without it’s main defense for the first couple days.

Does any site do free or low cost PGA ownership projections? I was an RG premium member and I liked the service, but for a low dollar player, it’s hard to justify the cost.

Fantasynational is $25 a month (or $200/year) and has solid ownership projections. It also is the absolute most efficient way to make a model, sort stats, and lineup generator that I have seen. Highly recommend.

Edit: It’s also great for in tournament stats to apply to showdown contests.

Would it be accurate to say that there are more recreational players in the $5 contest than in the $44 contest?

  • lfn1992

In EURO world the Oman Open is next up, and like the PGA event it seems like the big guns are mostly skipping this one. Last year some stars still played here but the star power is a lot less this time around.

I would imagine you could say that for every/any DFS contest. To add, I’d also think the player in the $44 contest would also be in the $5 contest.

If you go on the badge system that DK has, the entrants that are already in the $44 are kinda mixed. So with no badges at all

I used to pump 20-35 LU’s in the $5 or $4 (when they run that one), but anymore I feel minimum cashing in the $44 is a lot easier than the $5

Yeah, he may be over 35% or close to it. Between yesterday’s round, last year’s tournament and not alot of star players it all adds up.

Yes on sheer numbers of rec players versus more serious players but as a percentage of entries I’m not sure the difference is huge. Much easier for the serious player to throw 40,60 or 100-150 entries in that $5 contest versus the $44.

At the $5 level you are definitely facing a core of people throwing in a lot of entries where that number drops off significantly at higher buy-ins.

    For the WGC Mexico:
    $5 entry
114 people Max entered 150 LUs
    11 ppl entered 125-149 LUs
    37 ppl entered 100-124 LUs
    20 ppl entered 75-99 LUs

    $44 entry
16 ppl Max entered the 150 LUs
    2 ppl entered 125-149 LUs
    1 person entered 100-124 LUs
    1 person entered 75-99 LUs

I’ve seen that the recreational players mostly stay in the QA/$1 pool. I notice a distinct ramp-up when I graduate up to $5. I haven’t done enough doglegs to see if there is a lot of overlap with the $5 and $33, but there is definitely some.

Ex. I’ve seen Noto in $5 golf contests

  • manoffewwords

As BIF said the Bear Trap 15-17 has 3 of toughest 4 holes on course. Players starting on back will be in good shape if even par after 8 holes because 18-4 are the easiest 5 holes on course, which includes the only 2 par 5s. I would guess you need to be couple under par to keep from losing strokes to field. Iron play will be critical this week. A few under radar plays may be Furyk, McDowell, and Kokrak if priced right.
