The guy in this field who leads the field in SG Total and SG T2G at PGA National over the last 24 rounds is indeed Mr Lee Westwood. Wow

I was caught off guard by Cam Smith last week with Sawgrass being his home course. Not this week but so far apparently everyone on tour lives within driving distance of this course. Phil, Rickie, Lahiri, Villegas, Donald, Keegan in this field just to name a few, Then we have all of the Florida and Florida State golfers in the field as well.

I don’t think “home course knowledge” means much here – there are very few tricks here unlike Pete Dye’s Stadium Course where knowing all the good places to miss when the pins are in certain spots is more important.

At PGA National, the wind, water and (in places) narrow fairways/landing areas are the main defense of the course (and a very good one they are !!). I never found the greens excessively difficult to putt on and the new(er) Bermuda greens are among the better ones on tour for consistency and condition. I do seem to recall the bunkers being a little tougher here than other tour courses but not enough where you’d try to model that in.

Funny quote from the linked article on The Bear Trap

Water guards the front, the entire right side and rear of No. 15, with a large bunker to the left making for a bail-out magnet. The hole is so challenging that Harrington said, “You hope to miss the short putt on the 14th green so you’re not up first on 15. You love to see your playing partners birdie 14. I really mean that; so, you get another feel for the hole. Then you’ve just got to man up and hit the shot.”

Best individual round last year was 4 under 66 by a half dozen different guys. You just don’t see anyone going real low here. Only 2 golfers beat par more than twice for a round (Benny and Berger). 3 of the past 5 years the cut has been +3.

  • monarch

The only real scoreable stretch is 1-4. I hate courses like that, most people are not playing their best to open a round but it is something I may favor guys starting on the back nine in SD since there is also a wrap around with 18 being the second easiest hole.

Burns, Harman and Stanley all WD

Alternates are in their place Burgoon, Bramlett and Spaun

Salaries out now and the alternates all have salaries; just waiting on the Monday Qualifiers to complete the field

Jim Furyk at 7k will be real popular. 9th in 2019. Cut maker, is ninth in the field in bogey avoidance over last 24 rounds. He has gained on approach (against stronger fields) in nine of his last ten rounds.

I have fallen for the Berger home course here before. Buyer beware, but he did have a good finish yesterday

Just getting a lineup of 5 optimally 6 guys into the weekend will be critical. Chasing volatile scorers seems foolish as birdie streaks and eagles will be few and far between.

Monday qualifier leaderboard for this week’s Honda Classic if you care

Early starter Rozo just shot 29 (-7) on the front which 4 shots better than any other front nine completed so far 🔥🔥

Edit – Rozo birdied #10 to go 8-under and then pars on 11-12; 59 watch may be over but still a hell of a round going.

Barn Rat WD mid-round it appears

5/6 has historically been more than enough to cash for at least 2X your buy in.

I don’t keep stats on this but I recall a 6/6% here one year just over 1% and another couple other years of sub 6% (and that was when 70 and ties made the cut).

This place has been a death-pool for chalk most years.

Seems like it’s about time for ZJ to miss a cut.

  • Getty33

With a combined 0 top 10 finishes and only 12 of 24 cuts made, Fowler and Woodland still check in as two of the top 10 most expensive golfers on DK.
Theory A) Too much talent and experience not to break out in a weak field event this week.
Theory B) I’m living in 2021 and not falling for 2019 pricing anymore.
    You decide.

Sorry….he has a crazy streak going, but just barely makes it every time. I think this could be the place where it catches up to him, but just a hunch.

I ran a model factoring in six stats real quick and Berger was a resounding number one.

I’ll probably have some shares, but this concerns me:

Ah, nice find. I would think he would put the priority on the Masters and let that thing heal.

Of all the weeks to have a $15 expiring ticket, as a person who’s usually throwing lineups into $1 and .25 games lol
Well, here’s to hoping for the best and hopefully not going too crazy trying to find a lineup I like for this one. Good luck to everyone…as long as you’re not keeping me from cashing in the flop shot : )

I wish the 3x $15 was offered more often. Seems to only be a major/big tourney thing.

Happy Meal Cup Standings after The Players Championship
Cup Points doubled for the Players Week, as we consider it a Major.

    https://1drv.ms/x/s!AiKGps2bl5SRolFG0Ypj5nLGoAkn

Last week was a bold move to increase the Happy Meal to 150 entries.
currently we have 235 players that have entered the Happy Meal at least once.
last week, we had 153 entries. Of the 153, 20 entries were first timers this year. I counted a handful of guys who are regular forum contributors, entered the contest in response to the Banging the Drums for all people to enter and get the contest to play.

Looking at these numbers, we could go to 150 regularly, but the risk of the contest not playing is big. We got IMHO a safety net, but I prefer to hang onto that for future use. Lets see how many of the new 20 continue to enter. ( I always said, I am a pussy to push the limit. At this time, If you believe we could do 150 all the time, You might be right.)

Congrats to Sammydavisjr for first place at the Players and Congtats to Eric2323 who took over first place in the Cup race with a second place finish
