DK Salaries are up so might as well get the thread/discussion going

Rory is top salary with Spieth, Scott, Day and Bubba not far behind; lineup construction will be interesting and a challenge given the small field, shorter cut line, likelihood of duplicate entries in huge GPP’s and the poor quality punts.

How’d you come up with Day/Willett/Smylie as the most popular combo ?

With the number of newbies and non-golf DFS’ers playing this week, I’d be shocked if Smylie as a rookie has a high ownership – he’ll get an average to slightly above ownership because of his price and the need for everyone to grab at least 1-3 punts. Willett will be popular with those who follow golf and are DFS’ers but again I’m not sure the average Joe knows much about this Euro. Also if I’m looking at stacking 3 guys, I’d be looking at guys with more Masters experience than Willett (1 prior Masters) and Smylie (rookie).

I think you’re nuts if you think Danny Willett is going to be anything other than immensely popular.

Also think people overestimate the extent to which know-nothing golf people play in millionaire makers. Know-nothing golf fans are just flipping this thing on CBS. Slightly less know-nothing guys are playing in their $20 pool with friends.

I have lots of friends who are interested in golf, know some of the names, and have no idea that the DK Millionaire Maker is even a thing. So I think people who know of the MM in general skew toward more familiarity.

All of that is to say that Danny Willet is going to be owned by a fuck-ton of people.

Good as I won’t be one of them

Wait – I did put him on one $1 Short Game entry

If we are boiling things down to “all I know”, then all I know is that I like bourbon. And sleeping. Not at the same time.

Well, one leads to another usually so that seems to be a win-win.

But really, the first time I tried to use the PGA Practice Twitter to help in my preparation for a tourney, it did not correlate well. Just trying to offer some personal experience and info up for folks interested in using that feed. Take from that what you will.

  • kdsdawg

on the subject of practice round scores as an indicator, you should like back at about page 2 or 3 of the Shell Open thread and someone linked the twitter feed from the dude at the practice round. That leader board had Hahn and Bowditch and some others with very good rounds. We all saw how that played out.

Roster construction. Most guys want two 10K plus guys in there. So Smylie gives some salary relief and is being talked about a lot as the guy to do that. And Willett is arguably the guy being the most talked about by sites like TPSC mentions. 8K is the perfect price for your 3rd guy in that scenario and his OWGR vs. pricing is a pretty big gap. I also agree with TPSC that we overestimate the fishiness of the public. I think they have some sense on what to do and are reading an article or two just to hear some ideas.

If you are using two 10K plus guys, I think that drastically reduces the number of unique lineups that can be made based on the pricing this week.

I am thinking about completely fading Spieth and McIlroy. GPP..thoughts?

  • ninerzfan8

I have talked to a couple guys in my office that don’t play dfs golf (they play baseball) and are casual golf fans. This is like the perfect representation of a lot of this golf Milly maker field.

They love Kaufman because he’s cheap and makes cuts and has a high avg puts per game. For the same reason they love na. They love Ryan Moore for some reason. Someone asked me who Danny millet is and I told them he’s been #2 on the Euro tour the last year or 2 and now they love him. They are also stressing out about how to fit in Scott, Bubba, and willet Walker or Reed into the same lineup, so they are grasping for the vijays and the els’ along with Kaufman and Moore.

These are all my high ownership to avoid plays. Completely glossing over all the playable guys in the 7000s

I put a Spieth and Rory team together. I’m not putting it in the Milly Maker but I might throw it in a few cheap GPP’s. Ideal situation it comes to a Spieth and Rory playoff.

I’m putting in a VJ and DL3 pairing – ideal situation if it comes to a VJ-DL3 playoff !

LOL – aren’t we all trying to grab the guys who finish 1st and 2nd ?

No reply needed, just beating on you a little….GL this week

I’m definitely avoiding anyone I think can win. Everyone’s going to have those guys.

For anyone interested, I just finished my blog post previewing the Masters and evaluating the field. Disregard the pictures for now, as I was having trouble getting images in there that RG owns the rights to. Hoping to get that fixed shortly.

Last week’s article was a success with Stenson, Rafa, and Henley leading the way. Hoping to replicate that this week! Let me know what you think. Any comments/feedback are appreciated!

Don’t underestimate Zach Johnson’s ownership. I would not be surprised to see him as the highest owned golfer. Feel like he wasn’t talked about at all before the British Open and he was so highly owned. Name value trumps anything that’s said in articles and on TV.

care to share them with us? piercey and VJ have a good shot to make the cut. who else is down there that is playable?

I decided to do the 200 LU $3 birdie. Hockey paid for it. I entered a group of 50 with no Spieth and McIlroy.
No idea if that will pay off. I would not exclude any of the top 5 players 100% if within your budget.

I was kidding – the 5000 to 5600 are awful IMO

All of the 5700+ guys have a shot to make cut but unlikely to Top 20

One real longshot and maybe worth a GPP shot is Trevor Immelman – about a year after winning the Masters, his game really went in the tank due to injuries. I actually walked 9 holes with his dad at the Masters in 2014 and he told me how Trevor was still in recovery and probably a full year away. Now 2 years later, he is starting to show some progress by playing on the Tour again and making a couple cuts. Having won the Masters here before, he just may rekindle some magic this week. Unlike DL3 who lots a people like, Trevor has been playing here every year as a past champ where DL3 has not seen the course in 4 or 5 years.

I can’t do Bowditch despite his slightly improved play last week and good history here – he just makes too many big numbers and it is tough to make the cut with an 8 on the scorecard.

Piercy is going to be the highest owned by far under 6K so I’d stay away – also having played him a fair bit this year, his putting has hurt him in a lot of events and this is not the course you want a poor putter at. If he could actually putt well, he has highest upside of the under 6K guys.

VJ will also be popular at 5700, I’m just worried about his age catching up to him with all the balls he beats on the range. His recent finishes in Florida have not been great. VJ did get a great group to play with – Hideki, Kirk and VJ – no young amateurs or old past champs (besides VJ himself). VJ is deliberate and Hideki is slow so good for them to play together, Kirk may have an issue adjusting.

Smylie and Berger are going to be heavily owned as will Lahiri and Barn Rat so personally I’d avoid the 25% ownership with them by downgrading your #2 or 3 highest salary guys and upgrading your 5th or 6th guy accordingly.

If I have time late tonight (after I cash big in MLB that is !), I’ll try to do a post on the tee times and groupings and see if there are any potential landmines in waiting.

What about Langer? I put him in 1 for now. Hybrid seemed to be filling so I threw some lus together but I’m far from ready.

No way Barn Rat will be highly owned at all! And I love him this week!

I wanna agree with you but I think all of that 5900-6200 range for salary are going to be somewhat popular. Tough not to need at least 1-2 guys in that range especially if you take 2 of the Chalk plays.

Barn Rat should be lowest of Piercy, Berger, Smylie, Lahiri but with only 89 guys to pick from the avg ownership is over 15% before you even factor in the guys that are going to be 2-4% like Schmitz, Bard, Mize, Chaplet, Langasque, Jin, Woosie, Lyle. So 18% is average ownership with those factored in. I think there is going to be some lower ownership guys in the 7900-9500 range where you can’t really roster one of them if you go with 2 of the high Chalk and don’t kid yourself, there are going to be a ton of Rory-Day, Rory-Spieth, Day-Scott, Day-Spieth and similar starting points – so with those you cannot easily take anyone from 8500-10K

I get ownership concerns, but how many big GPPs are won without the winner being on the winning ticket. I haven’t seen any yet this year.

The US Open Milli maker was ALMOST won by a LU without Spieth (2nd place).

Best of the over 55 Seniors by far and probably same value to make cut as Singh because he can putt – the anchoring ban hasn’t really hurt him much. The risk factor with him is his par 4 scoring as he’ll be hitting hybrids/woods into half of them – this is where VJ has the edge as he can hit it 25 past Bernie

Anybody know how many DK pts it took to win the Masters Milly Maker last year?

I think 600 or so. Pat Mayo had a picture of the lineup on Twitter.
