I just remembered something Shane Lowry said near the end of the EURO Tour last year – that his main goal was to “get into the Top 50 of OWGR” – note NOT to get back onto the PGA Tour, get a card, etc. Maybe he had this loophole on his mind.

Top 50 gets him into all of the WGC events. By winning The Open he gets the following also:

A five-year exemption on the PGA Tour, five-year exemptions into the Masters, PGA Championship, U.S. Open, and Players Championship, and a 10-year exemption on the European Tour.

Was just looking at this winning lineup for the $555. I thought higher dollar GPPs were usually a little closer to cash and playing “safe.” This seems like the ballsiest lineup to throw $555 into. Is this pretty abnormal? I know these sub $7k guys were probably the chalkier ones of the sub $7k, but still, to go with three of them and actually get lucky enough for all 3 of them to pay off seems like riding on a lot of luck for that much money.

    Ryan Armour 6,900
    Roberto Castro 6,500
    Billy Horschel 9,600
    Rory Sabatini 9,200
    Webb Simpson 11,200
    Johnson Wagner 6,600

Yea but this is an event that brings the sub 7k much more into play than usual and webb was as good a play as youll ever see at 11k…

We saw an even crazier stars-scrubs lineup around Florida the week Johnny Vegas and some other guys were priced at $6k

Obviously in general that’s more of a “go for broke” high leverage lineup than a $555 lineup. But he wanted win equity and top 20 equity and he got plenty with that lineup. Wish I’d been more well rounded with my low range last week.

Wagner has as good a course history as you’ll ever find in that range, local, and mentioned by a few tourt (notorious for one) . Castro was chalky and mentioned by every tout and person on here (with good reason)

It set up for stars and scrubs insanely well.

If it means anything, my 4/6 with Poston and Webb cashed in a quintuple up. Seems more like a crapshoot luck win more than anything

    Spieth at 8k chalk? 🤔

  • mtdurham

Theyre playing in Jersey this year?

Which exit is this course ?

Yeah, I think he’s going to be severely underowned and probably for good reason. His game is all over the place.

That being said, I’m a homer and will have some shares. You never know, he could find something this week and he has the talent to win anywhere

I was playing golf with a friend one day when, on 18, he drove OVER the creek (a massive drive btw). I said “that drive is going to cost you a lot of money lol”

Today, I was driving to Nashville to play golf, when I heard on PGA Tour radio, that Zac Blair won the Korn Ferry Tournament this weekend to lock up his tour card. Aaaaand I thought: “boy that’s going to cost lfn1992 a lot of money lol”

This is a great way to learn how to win!! Look at the winners. It may appear ballsy or risky but I see a highly skilled player here.

I thought that LU was a-typical stars and scrubs. Hindsight say’s great LU. For non duplicate hi volume gpp. Normal. I would think when you lower the number of LU’s your playing against, perhaps you want to go 1 star and scrub less for supposed better risk assessment.

I think its the rickie bobbie approach first or last

It wasnt a critic. congrats to the guy. well done. I thought the question was about the type of LU in the $555 contest.

IMHO that LU was atypical of a $5 DTG. I think you would agree to the description as stars and scrubs.
I think when you lower the amount of LU’s your playing against, you would want a more balanced LU. Give up some salary to up the salary on 1 or 2 of the lower salaries. I mean salaries are kind of based on LV odds, so increasing 2 players should give you a better chance.

nothing wrong with first or last approach, it only takes 1 win. or you keep waiting and waiting.

In birdiefests it doesn’t seem to matter. Birdiefests are anyones game and from 6000 to 12000 you cannot rule out anyone for the win.

I’m not sure if that matters. Is the baby bump in golf a thing like it is in other sports?

I will never forget when Willet flew into Augusta late after his kid was born and won :/

I’m a fan of narratives and the baby bump narrative is one of my favourite narratives to play in other sports, so I’m gonna dust it off and play it here.
Woodland wouldn’t wanna be away from his family for nothing. Woodland wins. It’s gonna be a fairytale. You heard it here first
