These are the main changes listed to the course from its normal layout in 2016 to the PGA this year:

    1. New Bermuda: A type of grass called Champion Ultradwarf Bermudagrass has been installed on the greens at Quail Hollow. It will be as pure as the driven snow, and it should erase all memories of that nightmare 2013 event at the course in which the bentgrass greens were as splotchy as any PGA Tour event in recent memory.

    2. Thousands of trees removed: We will see a sparser Quail Hollow than when we last saw it in 2016. Many of these trees were removed to allow more sunlight to hit the greens, but some were removed to re-shape the golf course, according to the Charlotte Observer.

    3. Four-ish new holes: The first and second holes were meshed into a single hole, a 540-yard par 4. The fifth hole was changed from a par 5 to a par 4. A new second hole was built, a par 3. The 11th was given extra bunkering. This is an oddity, for sure, but not much has changed in terms of the actual landscaping of the track.

Sounds like the tilting will start early.

Well if your golfers start on the front 9 that is.

What think of the webb simpson hometown narrative?

What think of the webb simpson hometown narrative?

I’m using Webb because I am a glutton for punishment (also 6.8K price makes it easy to play him with Rory combos). He has fantastic history here (think he is a member too) and he’s having a sneaky good season (8 top 25s, 35th and 37th in last two majors) because his putting has gone from bottom 5 worst on tour to merely very bad. Of course, there’s a great chance that he loses 5 strokes to the field putting in 2 rounds and misses the cut by 1 shot…

I’m probably doing one balanced lineup salary wise and one stars and scrubs. Webb Simpson be on my stars and scrubs team.

He is one guy I just never play. Along with Charlie Hoffman and jimmy walker.

I think of Quail Hollow as a ball strikers course especially when you look who has succeeded here – based on that Lingmerth has been terrible Tee to Green and only his Putter has saved him this year.

I’d lean to Summerhays plus he has played pretty well in a bunch of majors last couple of years.

Still no Hoffman? Two good weeks in a row

I was going to come in here and say, before Thursday gets here, Webb Simpson will be the darling chalk punt. Looks like the thread beat me to it. When you see his expected ownership over 15% I say tread lightly especially since they changed the greens grass type. Sometimes having detailed knowledge of a hometown track can be a bad thing since now none of the breaks will be the same as before.

It sounds like we will finally have a course that will actually punish guys that miss the fairways. God I hope this is true, but every time they (TV Analyst) have said that this year it hasn’t been true. In the modern age of golf guys that are driving it a mile are hitting wedge thru 9 iron from the rough and it has to be pretty penal to eliminate them still being able to hit the greens.

If looking for a low owned flyer, probably sub 1%, take a look at Robert Streb. He has played well at last two PGA championships. In addition no worse than T28 at last three Wells Fargo with one T5. Might be worth a few shares.

This course isn’t a very difficult one, I see winner around -15 or so.

Greens here changed from Bent to Bermuda after the 2013 event so 2014-16 were on Bermuda and he had a 38th, 2nd and an MC since.

Wasn’t Webb a member at the course that hosted the Wells Fargo this year, and he missed the cut there?

Are you saying the rough will be 3-4” this week?

I think it will play a little bit tougher, I am thinking -8 to -10. The course has eliminated one par 5 so there will only be three and they have always played under par so you can shave some strokes right there. In addition some of the par 4’s will play 20-40 yds longer than what they do in the yearly tourney. The driveable par 4 on back has always played under par but that hole has now been made more difficult. In addition the course may see a pretty fair amount of rain early in the week and over tourney weekend which will make it play longer, need to keep eye on forecast.

They said on tv that there are like 6 par 4s over 500 yards now. I will get a full course report tomorrow but this week should be fun to watxh as a golf fan.
