I don’t really see how we could’ve avoided a recession here. If we act like it’s not a problem, it just becomes a bigger problem. There was no way around it, we just have to do what we can to slow it’s spread and prevent death. That means businesses, and people will take a hit.

but if people are mad, desperate they go to work knowing they have the symptoms but they have gone to work feeling worse. I wonder how many people a McDonalds worker can infect by coughing on 3 hour shift of wrapped food and fry’s. After all you need the paycheck and cant go 2 weeks without.

I completely agree, Tim. I believe we should have safety nets in place for the most financially vulnerable in times like this. Otherwise, many of them will have little to no incentive to stay home. We have a staggering amount of people living paycheck to paycheck in the US.

I’ll give you another potential black swan event. There’s a very high chance given how many cases there are that a senior official of our Government could get the virus and given a lot of them are old, this is a serious risk.

Ted Cruz and a number of other Republican lawmakers who were exposed to the virus at CPAC are actually in quarantine right now, but none are reporting serious symptoms. People forget that there’s actually a 85% recovery rate on this thing (and seemingly does not affect young children) — so, yeah, you’re probably right that it’s overblown. As well, this is the first time the medical community in the U.S. has gotten a shot at this thing. And that’s important to keep in mind because whereas China and South Korea both have capable doctors/hospitals/research centers, they’re no way in the same ball park as us. Just last night, the iconic Cleveland Clinic announced that they invented a COVID-19 test that only took eight hours to get the results of. That encapsulates the power and ingenuity of the American medical community at its best. So, let’s see what happens. Three-quarters of the NBA teams were already tanking anyway, so that crap will not be missed as far as DFS goes. The PGA has some time now to devise a safe environment for The Masters. They will not give up on that century’s old tradition as easily as they threw in the towel on The Players. That should give you guys plenty of time to stat-crunch and strategize in case it gets the green light.

I don’t really understand this point of view. Are you suggesting that because 85% of people recover without needing hospitalization, that we should just let it spread and live life as usual? Are you suggesting some type of middle ground as opposed to our current reality?

I am with you. Now I look at TVG and Gulfstream/Fairgrounds/ Oaklawn raced today most of the night racing looks active.

anyone know another action laced activity?

The only game in town my friend is horse racing…I just got home from work (they sent me home after 3.5 hours because its a ghost town there), and I started catching up on this thread. There is a huge possibility I will be affected by this virus because Donovan Mitchell was at Encore March 5th in the high limit pit upstairs..luckily I didn’t work that night however they are discussing shutting down the casino for two weeks (possibly longer)..financially I will be ok, but being out of work would truly suck and I would really hate to have to dip into money that I have been busting my ass to save thru the years but it is what it is. There are tons of rumors circulating that maybe dealers have been affected..but no one knows for sure. It’s scary to say the least.

On a lighter note, I am a fan of Fairgrounds and Oaklawn just cause of the prices, Gulfstream has good payouts but I cannot figure that track out. I like the night time tracks but that is when I am usually at work..Delta Downs and Charlestown..

I am home today..let me know if your playing. I am thinking of withdrawing 60% of my money on DK and just leaving a few bucks in there until this all gets resolved. Anyone else doing that? Maybe I am over thinking but I don’t want to lose what I have grinded so hard to have in there for some odd reason..if I only lose a few hundred dollars I won’t be thrilled but I wouldn’t be pissed other than at myself for not making a full WD.

Just woke up to hear the news the PGA tour is canceled as well. This is totally dumb as every player can chose if they want to play or not each week so if they are concerned can just stay home. Also with no fans the players that do play can easily keep 6 feet away from their playing partners at all times. I get the NBA and how easily things could spread between players but this is just totally dumb for the PGA as it has to be the safest sport out there by far in terms of being able to limit contact and still play the game.

Yeh, it’s garbage they should have told Rory to go home. You are outdoors, there does not need to be close contact with anyone. I think everyone is going to have to rethink things in a week. Should not have given up on the Players so fast. People have to go to work when they don’t want to. If a player disagrees with the policy they can just stay home…with the international nature of the tour though can’t change the decision now unfortunately. Think the country will need to rethink everything in a week or so.

The Paranoia Virus claims another sport.

Seriously, this tells you just how far this once great country has fallen.

Next they will force you to stay home, but will stay keep online poker illegal.

Round 1 not finishing yesterday and leaking over to today saved me 3 large 3 man showdown entries – even though they were essentially guaranteed losses DK refunded me for all three – stupid decision to even start the tourney in the first place in my opinion

I think golf is fine to play (If the players were on board) having fans there was ridiculous.

“Automatic and free testing”? What “tests” are those? The tests that didn’t exist beforehand on account that COVID-19 is a novel virus and China wasn’t sharing any information with us? Which means, the medical field had to have a reported case here in the U.S. to know what type of testing was appropriate for the condition. And how exactly would testing have saved anything when testing only determines whether someone has the virus?

The tests that other countries have in much greater numbers than the US, because we were extremely slow in our preparation and refused the tests offered by the WHO. That was a clear massive error and it came, in large part, from the top.

There has also been a concerted effort to downplay the problem so that the market remained strong. That was a misguided priority from the outset that has greatly setback the American response and we still see people on this thread making fools of themselves by downplaying the extent of the issue.

The virus itself is not a big deal for healthy children and through to middle aged adults, but it is both a serious concern for anyone who is 60+, anyone who has an underlying risk factor, and will BECOME a huge concern to everyone if it is permitted to run rampant and unchecked. The numbers for a virus with exponential growth are staggering. And at some point it can completely overwhelm the healthcare system, at which time otherwise treatable cases become fatal as well. That’s why it is very important that we treat it intelligently and cautiously.

We need to stop it before millions are infected.

That’s how it was looking after yesterday’s first round.

As a side note, there are still some openings left in #BeattheForum. I have taken the RBC Canadian Open and MrBreeze has taken the Rocket Mortgage if anyone cares to join or reschedule.

As for COVID-19 and the CDC:

As the highly infectious coronavirus jumped from China to country after country in January and February, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention lost valuable weeks that could have been used to track its possible spread in the United States because it insisted upon devising its own test.

“We’re weeks behind because we had this problem,” said Scott Becker, chief executive officer of the Association of Public Health Laboratories, which represents 100 state and local public laboratories. “We’re usually up-front and center and ready.”

Anyone had any movement on their MKF accounts? I assume they’ll cancel all the entries just like DK.

100% agree. But I’m sure they felt pressured due to every other major sport cancelling.

We still don’t know the after effects either. This is a nasty virus that infects the lungs. The people who die, literally drown in their own mucus. I read this morning that some people in recovery have lost 20% – 30% of their lung function.

Gives me more time to work on my code and trade the market.

Shame on this one, I was high/winning across multiple sites and if not 100% upon H2H, was close.

Can’t win on the market and DFS at the same time, that’s not allowed.

So I was in 26th place in the millionaire maker after round 1 and DK only refunded me my entry fee. Meanwhile I had 3 players in canceled NBA games and DK didn’t even refund me entry fees for that. What?
