I personally loved MLB Arcade when it was introduced on DraftKings. I enjoyed every single part of it, from the scoring to the pay structures in contests, to everything else.

Then, slowly but surely as DraftKings tends to do, they started changing their contests repeatedly. Initially, it was a $4 entry going for top prizes ranging from $1k all the way to $3k. Then they jacked entry fees up to $8 for the same prizes, under the guise of that “High Score Eligible” contest that paid a bonus out after the promotion. That was all good and it could have been a limited weekly promotion with no harm done. But, it ended and they kept the same $8 structure.

All of a sudden, the past couple days, there are only contests with top prizes of $500-1k max for $6 entries and $250 max for $3 entries. The worst part, though, is the “featured” slate being a $4 entry contest where only the top 250 are paid and they all get $100. I don’t know about anybody else, but I would be livid if I destroyed the competition and finished first and only won $100. So the featured slates are basically unplayable.

I just wish they had left it alone, when contests were perfect and filling every night. In my opinion, MLB Arcade was one of the truly great options available since I started playing DFS. Now, as a GPP-only player that plays for a chance at a big return, I have no reason to go near it. They took what I thought they had that was better than FanDuel’s Mixup, especially the larger prizes, and moved more toward FanDuel’s Mixup pay structure.

Just curious as to the thoughts of everyone else who enjoyed MLB Arcade when it was launched. Do you like the changes or have they driven you away? Thanks in advance for the read and good luck grinding!

They split it up into too many slates, give me bigger slates and I’ll play.

    They killed it

Absolutely true. It got to where I would have to cherry pick which slates I wanted to go at, based on the pitchers I liked each slate. And even then, at least there were decent contests every slate, but not anymore. Tragic.

I lost interest for the same reason. I got tired of 2-3 game slates.

Guess we just have to email them with our opinions… Off the top of my head it seems like they are obsessed with maximizing rake in a robotic way (splitting up slates, raising price point, filling everything early). OP is right, stop switching things around every week… it’s annoying and exhausting if you’re a regular player.

Don’t mind more slates broken down but wish they had big GPP’s for $3-5 a pop

Not sure why these sites continue to mess with success

Most players want to invest as little as possible and still have a chance at big money….If there’s a 10k+ to first tourney in any sport I’ll throw in a bunch of entries if its a low buy in. I bet most people feel the same way

You can still keep the mid-size GPPs, it’s not an either/or

But aren’t fd and dk a business?aren’t they supposed to only care about their bottom line?I mean aren’t there hard working people that need to get paid?

I’m asking cause when rg decides to charge for things I get that response.something something blah blah blah hard working people no free lunch etc.

Personally I loathe the business strategy that fd and dk have adopted of trying to screw over their users.but the contests keep filling lol

Pick ‘ems are coming, and those will be what Arcade Mode should have been. They will be quick and easy to draft, but should be more skill-based than the home run hunting that was Arcade Mode.

Supposedly Pick ‘ems will be live starting on August 15th (https://www.legalsportsreport.com/14964/draftkings-pickem-daily-fantasy-sports/).

As long as the Pick ‘em prize pools are nice, I suspect that within a week or so you won’t be missing the bigger Arcade Mode contests.

I really liked Arcade mode when it debuted. Yet as I played more, the limited amount of roster spots and the max two players from each team became something I grew decreasingly fond of. I still think the scoring is great and really like selecting hitters without worrying about position eligibility.

Suggestion: For Arcade mode….have the same roster size and parameters as standard, 2 pitchers and 8 hitters, with a five hitter max from each team. Yet keep the scoring and lack of positions for the hitters. If you wanted to simplify you could do 1 pitcher, yet have 8 hitters with a 5 hitter from one team max. And of course have it for full slates.

  • jjwd

They’re also shooting themselves in the foot with the confusing layout… some slates are labeled (arcade mode) at the top and some are not. Again, confusing to the casual player.

As far as I can tell the prize pools are smaller because a lot of guys who max enter the regular contests don’t in Arcade mode, and they have a 20 entry limit. For those same reasons I definitely recommend playing in the arcade mode contests.

Fanduel Mini is also promising but it needs a bit of a push to get people interested.

Good point. And the new rule where the big guys have to stay out of the under 5s.

DK is starting to look more and more like Fan Duel on a daily basis. Didnt DK get the memo that the FTC doesnt want the merger???

  • lloydjv1

Personally I never liked the way they structure hitters so that the salary increases if they are hitting against a more likely vulnerable pitcher. I know it makes things more competitive in a way, but thats just making it more difficult to field a lineup you feel comfortable with having limited players.

    I’m playing every slate

  • joerapjr

I personally like the smaller slates they offer on Arcade Mode. It leads to a quick and exciting sweat, but I also understand how it leads to very high ownership on some players.

Judging from the majority, it sounds like a full slate would be more ideal.

  • bigstanny21

Prior to this thread, I was starting to think I was the only one hahaha…I think the main ideas are the larger slates, bigger top prizes and consistency….sadly, I feel like their consistency has gone out the window for any and every sport lately…for example, I was expecting the $50k Swing For the Fences tonight and it’s nowhere to be found…and while I will never understand why a single home run would outscore 3 hits, I was fine with the scoring in the end

I really wish they would consider a relaunch and start it over the way it was originally done…I imagine whoever did the initial research to launch an entirely new sport/product knew what they were doing by the time they were done…if it was so way off base and needed all these changes, I don’t know how it was launched to begin with..in the meantime, I’ll be drastically scaling back my play…thanks for all the responses, everyone!

I have definitely decreased my play in the arcade. I am with people on too many broken up slates but there are also some exploitable ones. I have had some of my best scores on arcade. There are always some nice underpriced guys. It’s been pitching that’s been screwing me up lately. I think pitching is the reason you need bigger slates. Some are just a roulette wheel of bad pitching but you have to pick somebody.

How do people always have the same lineup in those arcade mode games? There are so many players to pick from.

yeah there have been a lot of 2 or 3 game slates where there is no viable pitching option

I posted about it in a recent thread because I thought all pitchers would be bad. Lo and behold, all 4 available pitchers scored negative points.

I should’ve picked a reliever, but it’s hard to click the button of a guy who might not even play.

Sometimes I like picking which bad guy is going to do “best” but need it to be something really low stakes. Unless you know a reliever is going pitch (pretty much never) it’s impossible to take one in arcade, besides maybe playoffs down the line. I still like it but my interest in it has gone down a bit. I think some is because I haven’t been doing as well lately but the decreased prize pools have also helped that. I’m ready for NFL and some version of arcade, even though I still love classic!

Aaaaand there’s Pick Em on the schedule for tomorrow (8/16)…let’s just hope they do it much better than they did Arcade…the very first contest is great, with a large slate and a huge top prize to go after…but that’s exactly how Arcade debuted as well…it seems complaints have had them revert Arcade back to being a little better, at least on the “Featured” slate, so maybe they’re actually listening to our feedback…we will see soon enough!

i really don’t see how there’s any skill at all in these pick’ems…there’s no salary, just these silly tiers etc. maybe i’m missing something, but they seem to be watering down the knowledge and aptitude required for success
