I have another one: If someone offers you one million dollars or a 50% chance to win one billion dollars, which option do you take?

Under my current financial situation, I take the automatic million. Would never forgive myself if I didn’t and failed to win the billion

50% chance to win one billion dollars

Would this be like flipping a coin?

Yep exactly. A non biased coin. Can’t do it more than once, obviously.

Brought this up with some friends recently. I’d probably take the million in my current situation. Tried to think about how low the guaranteed money would have to be for me to flip the coin and that I’m unsure of.

  • goldandmyrrh

We’re all gamblers here…..you’d have to go for the expected coin-flip billion with average pay of 500M over the 1M guarantee. At least I would, and I’m far from sniffing being a millionaire.

The million/billion I think is the best one, because let’s say you keep the same proportions but make it a lot smaller or bigger, the choice becomes too easy.

$1 or $1000, of course you’ll try to win $1000!
1 billion or 1000 billions, of course you’ll take the guaranteed billion!

Easily take the guaranteed million and run. Would allow me more freedom to do things I enjoy.

Last minute, but Cink or EVR?

EDIT: I swapped EVR for Cink last minute. Pray for me… Was worried about EVR being too popular with his recent form at min price. I do a single lineup

  • qatman

Flip that coin baby. Although it is totally situational. I would probably take the guarantee at 10m and certainly at 25m today. Twenty years ago I may well have taken the 1m.

    Utility functions are not linear.

But if he gets more points than Cink, how well will that strategy work out for you even if he is double the ownership?

Dammit, Jim. Don’t talk reasonably to me! Ha-ha… Just joking. No doubt it’ll bite me in the face :)

Pleasantly surprised that Finau came in around 15%. Seems like most folks started with Rahm, which left the rest of the 5 figure salaries behind.

I do like the Cantlay 5-10% ownership in some single entries while Rahm at 40-50%. We will see.

I cant retire with a milly. I’ll take the coin flip.

    Great start Billy!

  • MrBreeze

going to be some serious let down for those who started Cantlay, those 30 points are going to go away…..just sayin

  • whodat2

The only time all year where I could make a lineup with DJ, JT, Rory, and Xander. Now let’s go crash and burn.

  • byo34

Sergio holing out the first hole.. WOAH

    Garcia eagle 2

1st place can be worth no more than 27 points, because even last place here gets 3 position points.

  • byo34

Sergio going 2 under his first hole while his playing partner EVR goes 2 over.. that’s gotta hurt if you are Erik.
