So, as i have done with Stocks. I want to help my bro’s. I guess it just makes me feel good. Have 2 homes, one we rent out. Both got damage roofs here in Florida during hurricane. We acted fast, pushed Insurance to get out and adjust them. Guy says we get 9k – (minus) deductible of $4500.00 for rental. 23K – (minus) $5500.00 deductible. We accept. I start pricing them out, seeking quotes. Most quotes come in close to the adjusters prices. Thus, we figure 10K out of our pocket. We can handle that, no worries.

Then a friend tells me I am doing it wrong. Find a full contacted licensed Full service contractor licensed to DEAL with and negotiate with Insurance corps. “I had no clue that was possible” I am not going into details, but bottom line, we will not be paying a penny. Plus, our live in home is going from shingles to metal (big upgrade) and the other home going from 3 tab shingles to Architectural. I am usually pretty cheap, but always looking for the deal and in my haste to find the cheapest roofer, i overlooked the Big picture. They itemize, raise costs so that insurance covers you properly.
With the new upgrades, we are saving close to 17K on 2 roofs. Amazing when you work the system to your benefit…

DFS related – I’m struggling to decide on which of the top salaries I like and who I want to fade – I’ll definitely have a couple lineups with none of them.

Roof related – it’s a little diff in Canada, our house insurance has only a $1000 deductible.

Chain of events: – wind storm last fall caused roof damage (just to shingles) – adjuster came out and said about 60% of roof had damage and would be covered – he went away to do the calculations and said it was about $7500 – gave me 3 options (1. take the cash less $1K deductible, or 2. their approved roofer can do the work and I pay $1K or 3. I can get my own guy and they’ll them directly less $1K) – patched the roof to secure it over winter (insurance corp paid $500 to do this) – fought with them for a few weeks this spring to get the full roof covered as I couldn’t get a matchable shingle because the ones on my house are discontinued and they’ve changed in appearance; eventually insurance corp agreed – they calculated full roof total damage at 14.5K and cut me a check for 13.5K – a guy I Golf with is a roofer and doing it for $12.5K so I’ll make $1K at the end of it and my deductible was already netted off.

A guy I know who is a farmer once told me “you are not a very good farmer if you can’t get at least your premium back every year” 😂

Not that difficult, probably harder finding the matching shingles. Those are arch. type, plus different manufactures make colors, LOTs, etc. different. you wont get a perfect match… I would ask around, even get a couple quotes, handyman, etc.
By the time you find the right ones, buy a “bundle” install, you will be better off farming it i=out.

I went ahead and got some extra when the incident occurred. Luckily they still had some in stock at the roofing supply store.

EDIT: If I remember someone saying correctly, they had a QA, but it was tiny and filled early. I guess they’ve since added a $0.25 Quarter Jukebox ($2000).

That’ll have to do for me I guess. Might throw out some YOLO lineups because I need things to change for golf. I’m always hanging around until the weekend when my golfers forget they have a tee time or something.

My dl guy is Mahan. It looks he can be ok for 6.6K. I think I’m over trying to play the 6/6 game, even when they are my lineups are still trash. My handicap is like 450 haha

Me too, but I’m totally ok with it. He got his MC out of the way at the Open and it was on the number too so it’s not like he played that badly. I think that will take a little bit of ownership off of him this week though he’s still likely to be pretty chalky, but with the way he’s playing this year I’m ok with being overweight on him this week. I think he wins one of these next few events before the British Open

So here’s my issue. While a few of you guys love to go off topic and talk about other things besides golf, there are others who don’t. They come here to talk golf, and as the person PM’ing me said, “I don’t enjoy having to siphon through a bunch of posts to get back to golf talk”.

I get some of you enjoy just chatting with each other, but this isn’t a chat room, it’s a golf thread. Please keep it on topic and you are always more than welcome to head to the off-topic forum and discuss anything you would like.

Siphon… that is the problem ? unreal, honestly, who cant look down and see that it isnt about golf, a few comments. If it is ban width, then I would hope that a respectable PM would be passed along. To think that someone can’t look past a damn roofing comment is absurd.

Apologies to you and all that were annoyed… You can just delete posts, right? Probably quicker than slapping us on the hand. Just saying…

EDIT: Though I understand that you don’t monitor every post so I’m sure it’s annoying to you every time there is a flashing envelope in your top right corner stating that the forum is off topic. My bad…

    Quadhole,

That is your opinion. What started off as a roofing comment, ended up being quoted, requoted and discussed for almost a page, when viewing by phone. Some members don’t want to have to scroll through a bunch of off topic comments and I respect their wishes being that this, once again, is a golf thread.

Now, I haven’t deleted the comments, I’m just asking, going forward to keep in mind off topic posts, especially ones that totally derail the thread, will be deleted.

I’d argue this is a golf community and part of what makes me frequent this forum as much as I do is the interactions the active forum members have. I’d be shocked if this person who PM’d you is an active contributor here.

Any guess on his ownership percentage? I certainly have my shares, but don’t want to think I’m over and actually be under… There are a few choices in that range though… KSDT, Henley, Steele, Pan, etc.

    Golf robots only, dude.

EDIT: I’m sure there are a ton of lurkers that never comment and only come by because they don’t know who to play otherwise. I’m doubting they care about what I say, but there are a few of us sharp people in here worth listening to.

  • Quadhole

I actually thought you guys like page count. Maybe it best to put out a notice or rules, which no one reads, that each section is for that sport, period ! NO OFF topic, period ! If so, you receive a warning, after the second warning you will be banned. That is how we did it.
I thought this was for golf and to build helpful information in Golf, but as you build those relationships, you can throw a bone that if useful info, everyone would be thankful, not just bitch because they have to siphon…
Oh well, just more of Corporate America shutting down democracy…

    Will move on…

I am not trying to limit anything you do, just next week..I would appreciate you not dumping 50 matches into the league to be filled. by all means enter contests, but please, leave a bit of the spotlight to the forum challengers.

once again apologese to flip4flop, hyak420, and not least to timgodd375. I hope the above schedule works.

No worries and no apology necessary, thanks for taking the time to organize something like this.

He’ll be between 25-30%. So I am double that.

I feel like he should be somewhere in the low 9k range so he’s a steal. Esp if you want to fit two of the other 9600+ guys.
