    The Well: Al Smizzle

“A stranger is being shown around a village that he has just become part of. He is shown a well and his guide says “On any day except Monday, you can shout any question down that well and you’ll be told the answer.” The man seems pretty impressed, and so he shouts down, “Why not on Monday? A voice from in the well shouts back, “Because on Monday, it’s your day in the well.”

Well, I had a pretty good Monday this week so I guess it’s my turn to answer questions from any and all of you. The past few editions seemed to go rather smoothly for JackandSoda, Naapstermaan and headChopper so lets give this a shot. I’ll do my best to answer things as quickly as I can.

    I’ll start it off:

    Handle: Al Smizzle
    Age: I’m a man, I’m forty
Hobbies/interests: Sports, stocks, politics and spending time with my wife and two boys.

I’d personally either do a single entry $50 gpp or 2x in one Multi-entry $25 gpp and vary up some of my plays.

Had this idea awhile back, decided making a excel spreadsheet was much easier.

Ethan made one for Fan Duel. It’s pretty awesome.

I would love to do this. The problem is getting the sites to give you feeds of all the results. I have so many ideas on how to make it awesome too. Maybe someday…

Until then keep an eye out for the multi-site tracker that we’re releasing later this week.

Last week I placed pretty high in a GPP. If i would have taken Forte over Shady Mccoy i would have won. When building my team I wasn’t sure which to go with. Since I had the cap to take Mccoy I went with him. If i took Forte i would have had $1000+ in remaining cap with no players roster spots left to fill. What I’m getting at is, should you ever leave salary cap remaining to go with a gut feeling, or should you ALWAYS spend it all. Sorry if this is a stupid question, I’m pretty new at this and i always feel compelled to spend every dime of cap.

It’s not a stupid question, it gets asked all the time. If I feel I have a lineup that is exactly what I want or the most optimal I can make I’m not worried about leaving money on the table. I do it pretty much every night in NBA (leaving 200-900 on the table) because there just isn’t any way for me to feel like the newer, slightly more expensive options are better than the ones i currently have.

As for your case, I had McCoy 1 and Forte 2 on my RB list last week so I would have likely done the same thing. Don’t let the results fuel your future decision making…also known as results based thinking.

Knowing that now I can be a little more free with my lineups and feel better about leaving some remaining cap. Thanks for the quick response, and advice.

I’ve got 2 young kids myself. Been pooped on, peed on, spit up on, and pulled over at 2am on my birthday giving one of them a midnight joyride to fall asleep during.

What’s you favorite story to tell about the “fun” times of being a parent.

Good list. Glad Moten made it and especially glad Mcnamara didn’t. Syracuse in the ACC is going to suck.

Congrats on all of the DFS success you have had.
What years were you at Syracuse?
My wife and I graduated from SU in 2003.

I can’t wait to see how we handle the ups and downs of the ACC. As good as our recruiting has been in BBall the past few years I can only see it picking up because of the new league. I can also see our football team attracting better players because of the huge step up in leagues for that sport. I think it was an excellent move for our sports programs.

Hypothetically, say you have a $100 budget to spend for the night. Is it better to spread your money out on a lot of smaller games, say $10 50/50’s or just play one $100 game?

    Jim Brown over Ernie Davis?

My game selection would look something like this:

    3x $10 large field 50/50
    3x $10 h2h
    1x $10 3man league
    1x $10 10 man league
    1x $10 single entry GPP
    1x $10 Multi entry GPP

Yes. Davis was amazing, but Jim Brown was the greatest running back of all time followed by Barry Sanders.

  • poonwhipped1

I know you are right as usual! Just a homer for Davis since I live in his hometown.

200-900? I assume this actually means “0-900.” Would you/have you ever left $1K+? Results?

I left 1500 on DD tonight in NBA, scored over 300. It’s not a usual thing, especially on FD or DK where the differences in player prices are much smaller, but on DD or DS where the gap can be significant between one “optimal” play and the next one, I’m less concerned with using my entire allotment as long as I think I have all the “right” players for that day.

Have you ever considered writing a book or would you consider writing a book? It would be good for the industry. :)
