    The Well: headChopper

“A stranger is being shown around a village that he has just become part of. He is shown a well and his guide says “On any day except Monday, you can shout any question down that well and you’ll be told the answer.” The man seems pretty impressed, and so he shouts down, “Why not on Monday? A voice from in the well shouts back, “Because on Monday, it’s your day in the well.”

So it is now my turn to jump in the well and start answering weird questions for anyone who wants weird answers. This will be the 3rd installment if my math is correct, the last one was a while back and Naap was the well guy: /threads/The_Well_Naapstermaan-84144 … It’s pretty much you ask a question about anything related to me, fantasy sports, or absolutely anything else and I answer it.

    Name: headChopper
    AKA: Chop
    Age: Old Enough
Hobbies: DFS,Reading Poetry and saving puppies from the pound

Ask whatever, I will do my best to answer it in a timely manner. Now remember, I been around a while,so anything after ’85 is in my wheelhouse.

Are you going to stay in Vegas after the FFFC until the DSFC?

No way. In theory it sounds great. But I can’t handle Vegas for more than 3 days then its time to re-charge anyways.
Throw in the fact that I would be sticking some poor grandparent with 3 bad kids for an entire week of trying to get them up and ready for school and its really not even an option.
Also I have finals for school during that week, so thats just the icing on the cake.

How often do you check results. Are you glued to your computer or phone every Saturday for say CFB? My wife hates me on Saturdays because of this!

  • Gsulaw16

    1) Earlier you said kicker was the most essential position to building a winning NFL lineup. What methods do you use in selecting one, and are you confident enough in it to pay a premium at that position?

I dont check results but I will watch the games all day. My wife kind of gets the routine by now. She knows it only lasts a few months then CFB is over so its all good. Plus, as long as she wants to continue taking cool trips to Vegas she has to stand down and know her role…that means I am a football watcher all day on Saturdays and Sundays.

Kicker comment was tongue in cheek. Yes, if you nail the kicker spot it gives you a better shot at winning a big tournament. But I will never spend at K unless I have plenty of cap left over and there is absolutely nothing else I want to improve on my team. I start at the min priced kickers and find one that has a decent leg.

Im playing only the games that I have to play, i.e contests I committed to that run through out the season. Otherwise I’ll just be doing my FD lineups.
Its always a tough time in Vegas for me. Im a desktop guy and dont function well on the road with my laptop or ipad. So I’m probably toast already for the big game.

Thanks for taking the time out to do this. If you are a Houston Cougar fan then you and I have endured possibly the two worst losses in college basketball with the Phi Slamma Jamma championship game, and UK getting beat by Duke in 92.

How committed are you to spending the entire cap each day? In the past I have made some late roster mistakes by changing my roster to use up the cap when I had 400 or more left over. Is there a point when you look at your lineups and don’t worry about unused cap?

On another note, Woody Harrelson was hands down the best sit com athlete, had legitimate basketball skills, grew up playing on the playgrounds.

I was just old enough to know what was going on when NC State beat UH on that last second dunk. I cried…
I like to spend as much of the cap as possible. I just dont like leaving too much on the table. Maybe on short days like Thursday NBA its ok, but when there are plenty of games I feel like there are plenty of options and I like to fill my cap

Yes, I think LBJ will be recognized as the greatest player of all time when he retires. Even with MJ, there is much debate of greatest. Some still say Wilt, a few say Magic..it will always be debatable. But most recognize MJ as the best. That will be what LBJ becomes when he is through if he stays healthy.

Greatest QB I ever saw amongst his peers playing at a high level of football was Tommy Frazier. Nebraska QB circa 1990’s. He was unreal before the leg injury derailed his career.
As for the NFL, the best QB I saw was Warren Moon. I’m not into Super Bowl determining a players worth. Some guys just aren’t blessed with good defenses or a running game to get them a ring. Just strictly from what I saw with my eyes, Moon was a bad mother f***er

Saw earlier you mentioned sports betting, was it something you did for fun or otherwise? Did you keep any detailed records and do you know your strike rate or ROI? Do you still do it or is it too much of a hassle for you now?

In CFB/NFL would you rather take a bad player with a good matchup or a good player with a bad matchup? I know neither is preferable but these are your options.

Sports betting was just for fun. Never kept track of it.
I only place some wagers nowadays when I’m in Vegas.

Good player with a bad matchup all day

Good or bad theory if doing own analysis. Take the avg score on your site it takes to win that gpp your playing. Find players you like (using DS as example) take there salary divide by 100k tells you the avg pts that players needs. Do that for every player you like and find a roster that works and if your analysis is right and your players reach that point total you figured it takes to win that gpp you should be okay. You can tell me if I’m an over thinking idiot. Lol

Game strategy is a more important analytical skill than actually selecting players in my opinion. So I like the different view point of trying to figure something new out keep plugging away till you find what works for you.

Well…now that the FFFC is finally over, is there anything (if you could go back) that you would have reconsidered or changed? IE – an actual picture of what was going on in Philly prior to gametime, etc etc.

Congrats on the finish, I know it isn’t what you were hoping for but 13K is still a great payout for a few hours of watching football no matter how you look at it!

Yes. I was having a good nfl season, so I wanted to stay as close as possible to my normal routine this weekend. It’s obviously hard to do that in Vegas, but for me to be down in the Legasse ,not paying attention to the weather closely is unacceptable on my part. That’s usually the time I’m glued to all the Pregame shows watching the weather. I should have had 1 team that had no Calvin Johnson on it. Weather was too bad to play him on both teams.
It’s something I’ll remember this upcoming weekend.

    1. prep. You can just kick back in the back and not have to listen to anyone.Just make some food.
So many stories, I couldnt even pinpoint one.
    Clam Chowdah
    Corona, with 1/4 sanitized lime

    1.Eddie Veddar, Slash, Michael Jackson
2.Love me some Brad Pitt and Denzel. 300 and Gladiator are classics

1.I’d want to get the Cowboys back in order as their GM.
2.1st base dugout. Ive only been to a few parks but there was nothing cooler than the Astrodome

$1 million, no consequences – I would spend it on a ton of desserts. You say no consequences which would mean no weight gain. So I would pound down a ton of food

Can you expand on this a little bit?

I seem to be spending the majority of my time pouring over the player salary spreadsheet on DS, starting with removing players I find to be very overpriced and highlighting ones I feel are values.

How often do you go across the board on a player? Or what is the highest percentage of lineups you would put a single player in?

Do you listen to any fantasy sport podcasts?
