I wonder if we are going to be drafting 6 teams or 6 players.

BIF from last week, speaking of this week…

“Looking ahead to next week – DK has contests up for the two-man team event Zurich Classic. They have added some text to the end of the Rules Page for “Team Events” that you may want to read – you can only pick one player from a team (example Rahm and Palmer are partners) so you can only draft one of them – I doubt that DK will have their system programmed to disallow a Rahm pick if you already clicked Palmer so there is potential for some dead lineups and an edge if you build properly. Will be interesting to see what/how DK posts player names, teams and/or salaries this week and how clear they make it for the newbs and uninformed.
Fantasy points will be awarded the same as normal (3 for a bird, etc…) – two of the rounds are alternate-shot so whatever the team scores on a hole is what you get points for; the other two rounds are best-ball with both partners playing their own ball and the best score of the two counting on each hole (so if you have drafted Rahm and he makes a par 4 while his partner Palmer makes a birdie 3 – you would still get credited for the Birdie as by rostering Rahm, you have effectively also rostered Palmer because it’s a team event). You are basically picking 6 two-man teams onto your roster by picking one of the team members.
With 80 teams in the tourney; it’s effectively a small field event where you draft 6 out of 80 options (despite there being 160 players actually in the tourney). I read that only 35 teams make the cut after Friday so I’d expect the 6/6 rate to be pretty low as there are a lot of lesser-names in the tourney who will make the cut.
Sounds easy but you are picking 6/80 and those 6 need to be in the top 35 to get 6/6 to the weekend”

Haven’t looked much into it myself yet, but sounds like we will still be picking players – not teams. Time will tell. Hopefully we’ll all know if about 2 hours

betting market has odds on teams- so I am guessing DK will follow suit

From the initial info released by Pat Mayo from Draftkings is that they can’t list teams and it totally messes up their system you will be picking 6 players but they won’t allow you to select 2 players from the same team on a lineup. Each player from each team will get the same points. So I would assume teammates are priced the same as if they mess that up it will be a nightmare. It will sku the ownership %’s on the app when the contest is live though doing it this way as I assume it will only show ownership for that player and not the combined for the team.

Pretty sure Henrik Stenson would have 100% ownership if they used their traditional pricing algorithm

How are the teams chosen? It can’t be a totally random drawing because some teams have competed together for years. But what if you want to play and no one wants to be your partner? Like Patrick Reed, Sabbatini, or JB Holmes.

The paragraph below basically explains it and also how Brooks got to pick his brother a couple years ago (Chase was a sponsors exemptions that year as he wasn’t a Tour member). Also many guys don’t want to play this event as they went pretty deep on the priority list to get some of these teams in the field.

    ——
Each of the top available players from the PGA TOUR Priority Rankings who commits to the tournament will choose his partner, who in turn must have PGA TOUR status unless he is chosen as a tournament sponsor exemption.

The only way this makes sense from what I’ve read is if both players on a team have the same salary. Otherwise, it’d be dumb to pick the more expensive gopher….they’re both going to get the same scores, right?

They should have the same salaries – yes they get the same score

Is anyone else having issues with golf achievements? I’ve played every achievement yet “Daily Golfer” registers me as 61/70 instead of 64/70. I know I played at least $1/day in PGA entries every day since the contests started.

  • monarch

Can we pick both Rahm and Palmer? That would add additional strategy.

  • BIF

Rounds 1 and 3 are Four-Ball (Best Ball) with both players playing their own ball and the best score on each hole counting.

Best Ball course record is 60 or -12 which has been shot 5 times

Rounds 2 and 4 are true Alternate Shot with one player hitting the tee ball on Odd numbered holes and the other partner teeing off on the Even holes.

Alternate shot course record is 65 -7 shot by Rahm/Palmer in 2019

72 hole scoring record in this format is 261 (-27) which was shot in 2017 by both the winning Cam Smith/Blixt team and the playoff losing Kisner/Brown team

Whoa – there’s only been 61 days so far

15 tournies x 4 days plus the one extra for the Match Play that started on a Wednesday

61 days is currently the correct number for playing every single day so far. The 1 comes from there being an extra day the week of the WGC – Match Play which started on a Wedesnday with then Puerto Rico Showdowns to get the other days that week. I also have 61 and know I have not missed a day.

Per DK, picking 2 players from the same team would DQ your entry. Be interesting to see how they manage this.

“In team stroke play events (i.e. the Zurich Classic), golfers compete with a partner. Every golfer expected to play in the event will be included in the player pool, but you cannot draft both partners from the same team to the same lineup.”

Thanks you and BIF – boy, that threw me for a loop. That also means that The 36er achievement must be at 23-30? And the Weekly 6/24? (Major Masher is still 8/30, which makes sense,)

Thanks. I think that would be more fun and lead to more lineup combinations. Like picking the same starting pitcher in MLB twice.

Interesting that it doesn’t seem like any of those golfers are playing this weekend.

I’d be fine with just screwing those who didn’t read the rules, but I imagine they will have a function that makes picking the other partner impossible (shades the partner out or makes them unavailable once you pick the other one); or at least a bold alert notice. If it is possible to actually do it, then they shouldn’t DQ a lineup they should just only give one point total for the price of two (which would make cashing extremely hard, but would be more equitable than a DQ – I’m assuming DQ means you are out the entry fee and disqualified and not that you get your entry fee back).

Anybody have a source for the full field past results? I’m only finding winner and runner-up data.

Someone as a gag should put a Kevin Na – DJ team pairing in there (neither golfer is in the team list BTW)

Holmes is playing; Reed and Sabbs are not

A lot of guys skip this week as the season is so compressed and not many really played the old Zurich when it was an individual stroke play event.

As much as they despise each other that would be a dominant team.

I had assumed picking the second partner on a team meant you’d get a Zero as it’s like picking someone who is out – I had never heard that it was DQ and don’t see that in the rules either.
