Team “OO” and Friends might be in trouble this week as I needy Woody Austin to get six players.

The PGA Leaderboard in some cases seems to be double-counting birdies. Ex. If both golfers get a 4 on the Par 5 it’s getting counted twice

Is that why Dufner/Bozelli were -4 just a little while ago?

  • hbomb57

Choi and Kang playing like that belong here. Birdie Eagle to start.

  • BIF

Guess I’ll just wait until the end of the day to see how I’m doing as the scoring on both PGA Tour website/app and DK is a mess

If you look at Play by Play, they didn’t make eagle

KKV bailing out his scrub teammate Hovland with a legit eagle chance

Ah I see what it’s doing. It’s initially counting a birdie if a specific player hits one shot less than par then doesn’t finish the hole because he can’t beat his partners* score.

When I hear “best ball”, I think of captain’s choice where you both go take a shot from the best ball from previous shot, like is often done in the foursome shotgun fundraiser-style events that I occasionally play in.

What you are referring to as best-ball is a scramble and not covered anywhere in the rules of golf.

People incorrectly refer to scrambles (or Texas scrambles) as Best-balls because they are continually moving to the best located ball after each shot but it is not the real “best ball” which is the four ball format created by the Scottish.

  • BrianVT

Do we get a Horschel/Burns streak out of the gate?

Edit: Kind of a rhetorical question, but I can confirm I got the streak points in DK.

  • mogan11

People who play more $ games are more familiar with game type terminology.

Funny though, being from Texas, I’ve never heard of a scramble being referred to as a Texas scramble.

I understand that, but it’s just what makes sense to someone who speaks English. I’d rather Four Ball just be called that than to confuse it with adding “Best Ball.”

Well this makes it very confusing. So my LU’s all day will be smoke and mirrors.

Yep, Scramble is what I’m referring to, which I think is also sometimes called Captain’s Choice. Each of those could be described to someone on your team who doesn’t golf much as “we all just go play from the best ball.”

Yah confusing for sure for many people – I hear lots of people incorrectly saying “we’re playing best ball” at every scramble event I’ve ever played in. It used to drive me nuts and as I’ve matured I now only correct the people who are actually golfers (who should know the difference) and who may one day actually play the real fourball (best ball) one day.

Our men’s league at my club is a partnered (net) best ball format in which we play weekly fourball matches against teams in our “division” dictated by their chose tee time slot. Retired guys play early afternoon 12-2, flexible work guys play between 2-4 and the rest play after work 4-6.

It would be nice if either Im or An could hit a fairway.

0-6 through the first 3 holes.

This reminds me of the reason why I’ve never gotten into wine. I can’t stand having a discussion with someone who wants to teach me all of the rules of wine when all I’m trying to do is just enjoy of a little sip of the liquid in my glass.

Where I’m from a scramble is called Superball. Take best shot and play from there.

    Ha ha that’s funny

In more recent years, our club has tried out some different “fun” formats for club events as scrambles became less popular in that it was always the same 1-2 people being counted on for the majority of shots. we usually made each player hit/count four tee shots but the really bad golfers rarely ever got another shot in that a team would use.

We have tried something called a shamble where off the tee it’s like a scramble – you move to the best tee shot but from there, everyone plays their own ball into the hole so instead of posting 1 score for the team on a hole, you’d post 4 scores and usually the best 2 or 3 net would count. There are a few other versions of this as well – we have another one that is basically a scramble but at least one person has to hit the fairway (on the non par 3’s) or else it is a one shot penalty. If everyone misses the fairway, you take the longest drive but pick it up and move it to the fairway and add one. This format puts a ton of pressure on the last guy teeing off to hit fairway if nobody has yet.

Cannot emphasize enough how bold a move it was for those that drafted Woody Austin/Rocco Mediate

Nesmith/Seifert chalk eagle is a troll if Play-by-Play is accurate.

The 3D feature is working fine on the website, but I keep needing to reload the leaderboard to see the scores.

If we could go back in time and tell the Scottish to just call it “Best Score” instead of “Best Ball” then all of our problems would be solved. Well, at least the golf ones, not the wine ones.
