It’s been a month now since Draftkings released a new style of play. How are you guys liking it so far? any strategies involved such as stacking and etc?

  • superstars92

I don’t play it that often. I like that and arcade a lot better than the Classic format though. It’s just easier to make lineups, and you don’t have to think as much. However, the prize pools are lower, so it’s not the main thing I target every night, and that’s why I don’t really play it.

I think stacking is overrated anyways, so I don’t do that in pick’em or even in Classic. If I happen to “stack”, it’s not a stack but I just think those guys were the best plays and they happen to be on the same team.

I think Pick’em is the better of the “fun” modes they created this year. I’d like to see them dump Arcade and juice up the prizepools in Pick’Em.

Pick Ems brought me back into DFS after losing interest earlier this summer. Absolutely love them, and have been having great success playing them so far.

I like the format, but it depends on the groups being players with comparable projections. I think it’s more interesting when it doesn’t necessarily include the most elite players because outliers can make the decision less interesting. The Westbrooks or Sales can make the games less interesting.

The one big advantage it has over the regular format is being able to late swap much easier. For example today’s 9 game early slate will have several games without lineups released by lock. It’s very nice to be able to just pick another player instead of having to retool the whole lineup.

As long as they offer more than 1 option from the late games. I got burned earlier this year when Scherzer was scratched 2 hours prior to his start but every other option in his tier was in early games already locked so there wasn’t possible to late swap. Hopefully Draftkings has got smart enough to try and include at least 2 options from the late games per tier or 0 to avoid issues like that. Same goes for the NFL I would hope they wouldn’t include guys from the Sunday night game unless there is another option available in that tier also playing in the late game in case of a last minute scratch.

I agree with JoeFlacco05, that the Pick’em idea is superior in virtually every way to the Arcade.
I don’t mind them keeping both though, because I think more options and ways to play is not a bad thing. And even though I haven’t been a fan of the Arcade, i appluad DractKings for trying new approaches and trying to innovate…that’s the type of thing the industry needs.

Likewise Fanduel NFL Mini & MLB Mini style of plays

I love it, it will be my focus for the NFL season, I am hoping they do it for NBA as well.

  • Roma315

Love it! Now just wish they would higher the prize pools to make it worth while. The first week was fantastic.

DK usually leaves a guy off pick’em entirely when he’s clearly the best.

NBA will be a God send.
I could eat my words, but on paper it seems like it will bring a lot of the fun back. As I’m someone that really got burnt out on NBA last year.
It will be nice to really think about the slate beyond how many studs can I fit in, who’s mispriced and what garbage players are set to get 30 minutes and are worth gambling on.

  • stpelikan66

I’m really digging the Pick ‘Em format. Like the fact that you already have them in groups, which greatly streamlines my selections. I actually have a process which I do a 4-man Draft, then use my selections as my core on the Pick ‘Em. So far, so good. And I agree with Ryan: I can’t wait to play this for NBA. Only a month and a half to go! 🏀

  • noddy

I“m looking around this thread to see which one of you guys is going to finish 2nd in the big $3 NFL pick’em contest. These will be my main focus for NFL and NBA if the prize pools and first place prizes are big enough.

I have loved the pick ems so far but as I look to NFL, it looks a lot more difficult. Well maybe it’s not more difficult but more enticing to enter more lineups because there are so many “good” options. I’m interested to see how NFL and NBA go. Might let me back in NBA since I don’t have to find that scrub lol

i haven’t enjoyed these at all, but eh to each their own if you do. but i do hope they kill the arcade if they keep this

  • Jman62

I love the pick’em contest. Never had much success in the classic contest. first night of pick’em for baseball I came in second out of 40,000 entries. BOOM I’m hooked on the pickems

I love the pick ems and have from the start. I play a lot of the pick em slates and on many slates, especially for September baseball, I would play pick em only if I wanted to play but didn’t have a ton of time due to work, family, life, etc. If you don’t have a ton of time, I can still plug in a pick em lu and feel like I have as good a chance as any. I have found some of them odd lately like the stars and scrubs slate for football but can’t really complain about it since I had a 3rd place finish in a stars and scrubs pick em yesterday. Thanks Ted Ginn!!

I would like to see the NHL pick ems to have more of the main slate and not just like the later games like I have seen it so far.

  • TheRyanFlaherty

I like them, and I’m really looking forward to it for NBA. In NBA it will be a nice change of pace knowing you can only have ONE star and have to make that decision, or have some last minute value plays not even being part of the equation etc.

While I like when they include more tiers (the 7 or 8) and I think that’s necessary. I am not a fan when they consist of guys who you can’t reasonablh project to even touch the ball. It becomes a straight up guess and if one of those guys does get the “1 rec, 27 yds TD” line it can heavily skew the results.
I guess that does tend to be in the small slates though, so maybe the solution should be that I just not play those…I dunno.

  • Jman62

I agree. Early slates would be nice for us on the east coast. Found myself going to bed around 1am a couple times already because I was high up the leader board .I guess I cant complain about that though.

  • lloydjv1

Put me in the ‘like’ column as well. Helps me narrow things down and I have guessed right more times than wrong. It has increased my cashing over the classic format.

  • Messiah717

They’re a lot of fun for sure. A great addition to the game selection.

  • hendry

im not a fan of them making a tier 8 consisting of players that are teh 3rd rb or 5th wr on a team – that feels like a dart throw, otherwise they are fun.

I agree with what everyone has said here really! I have been consistently playing them and won a $0.25 NFL one for $100 week 4. It is more of “gambling” than classic for sure. As for the late hockey comment, I think it’s because they can’t afford to lose “NHL” guys to pick em therefore forcing you into classic if you want early action.

  • joephoto

I was planning to move back to playing on mostly fantasydraft for football season.

But DKs Pickems have me hooked. Favorite way to play now.

  • ActionJunkie

NBA Pickem is going to be a totally new animal without the TD variance. Hopefully will be really fun!
