    That is my question.

IDK. Right now I’m all in on both FD and DK in cash games on Dak. He’s the right play. But is it really the smart play? That’s what I’m struggling w/ right now. Wanted to feel out some fellow grinders. Kinda thinking I should hedge a little, but I just like my LU so much w/ him in there.

    He also went 17/23 for 116 and a TD against Seattle’s Def…..

Please don’t put too much stock into preseason performances. Shell defenses with very little deception or exotic schemes.

I think this is biggest problem going for Dak. People look at these preseason performances and think he is a lock. Remember, he is still a rookie in his first game, hasn’t even prepared all preseason with starters on a team that has said they are going to rely on the run. There is a lot of risk here.

Eh… I’ll take it. I got 3rd and 6th in the big $2 Snap and $5 Rush last year on FD with Davante Adams in my lineup.

I was responding to what I quoted, nothing more, nothing less.

Exotic schemes and the New York Giants defense do not go into the same sentence. Also at the price point, we do not need to expect him to have a top 5 fantasy performance at the QB position.

He HAS prepared most of the season with the starters, remember the Cowboys were taking it easy with Romo prior to him getting hurt yet again.

Might want to take a look at a calendar Bub.

  • crazypaul

Seattle’s defense running a minimal scheme with their starters for 1+ quarter is much scarier than that junk the Giants put on the field. I’m on the fence with my main GPP lineup with Dak, but I do have a few with him.

Basically, do you trust a low $$$ QB who will have the ball in his hands every single possession or a low $$$ RB who might see < 15 total touches or a WR/TE who could see < 8 targets? Ill go with the QB 99% of the time.

  • ataggart

If he goes off to the point where the GPP winning lineups have him it will be with lineups that don’t fill the cap. Or maybe there will be an 800 way tie with the fanduel Dak-Ware-Julio-Antonio Brown-ODB lineup.

  • Richebee

I like my fanduel lineups without DAK.

  • w3stcoastoff3ns3

I wouldn’t have too many shares of Dak. It’s the 1st game of the season, against a divisional opponent, just not the type of game that stands out to me. Yes Dak is dirt cheap but dirt cheap does not always win GPP’s. You can go cheap with Ware/Cook/Walford/Jones and get you a decent QB.

I’ll be mostly fading Dak in gpp and am undecided in cash. With the value around especially with say a Ware if we know Charles is mostly out, I think Dallas will run the ball a ton and he has not had a D scheme for him or run any design blitzes. He will see a lot things on the NFL level he has never seen before. IF he exceeds value, it might be with his feet so if he winds up 40 yards and a TD, then I’m maybe behind if I fade. That’s why I am on the fence some. I feel he won’t make value with his arm.

I think the main problem is that going with Dak necessarily creates a couple of blind spots. The first blind spot is with the other QBs; there are QBs in the $7.5-8.5 range that are excellent talents and have great matchups, and we all know this.

The second blind spot are the WRs $6k and under, because nearly everyone going with Dak will instead pay up at WR. But I studied perfect LUs for last season. One thing I found is that most weeks there was at least one WR priced less than $6k that ended up in the perfect LU. So I guess according to the choice you presented above, I’m making LUs with the low priced WRs and paying up at QB.

Can’t take him. Not under any circumstances for week 1.

    ^^^This

Here’s a quick pop quiz. If I’m in a 100-person league and I have the following two players how many other people can possibly have the same lineup as me?

    Dak Prescott (75%)
    Jared Cook (5%)

The answer is obviously 5%. The idea behind fading a player in GPP is that you believe they won’t pay off value or that you can find a similar priced player with the same upside.

You can make the case that Dak could score something low (10-15 DK) which makes him a decent fade. You can’t find anyone else at $5K who has the same upside as him though.

If you think he crushes it for 25 point you shouldn’t fade him even if he’s 100% owned. Just find a player somewhere else in your lineup that is 2% owned and then you won’t have the same lineup as anyone else.

I think this really comes down to whether you believe he will do well or not in consideration of GPPs.

In a vacuum, is Dak a good play in his first NFL game against an (objectively) improved Giants defense? How much do you want to take preseason heroics and apply them to games that matter? Do you think that Pierre-Paul is going to be a 9 fingered destroyer of worlds? In a lesser but still correlated idea, do you think the high priced players will pay off enough to make up for Dak having a mediocre game?

  • bignish

Very interesting debate here…I could see Brees and Rodgers going for 4 TDs and 350 yards a piece so if Dak only puts up 1 TD and 200 yards passing, you’re in trouble in your GPPs. In Cash games Dak will be so highly owned that you will “sink with the crowd” if he goes busto which doesn’t neccessarily bury you.

The WR position is so volatile that a guy like DJax, John Brown and Marvin Jones could easily be the #1 WR over ODB, Julio and Antonio and if you hit on the right WR3 with the likes of ARod and Brees…you“ll be laughing all the way to the bank.

  • Dadeano860

I believe Wentz has a much better matchup and could easily surpass Dak. Dallas will be super conservative and Spagnolo will have a much better defense with all the new additions. Browns d was just as bad as the Giants last year and they didn’t improve. Everyone putting all this weight in the preseason is ridiculous. All that being said, you can get 10 points from either and cash in cash games because they are so cheap. Really a low risk, high reward to play either. They both should get some rushing yards unless Philly tells Wentz to not run to avoid any hits

  • bignish

Are you going to trust a QB who played at North Dakota State and only played 38 snaps in preseason in his 1st NFL game?

Don’t get me wrong: guys like Flacco and Romo went to small time schools and have been successful but Wentz is being thrown into a situation he’s never even come close to experiencing in terms of the pass rush and blitzes.

At least Prescott played against stout D-Lines like Bama and LSU in college…

In cash if you are using Dak, how much of a necessity is it to use Dez as well? Very, kind of, or not at all?

Personally, I think too many people are getting caught up in thinking Dak is going to make/break their week when in reality there are multiple ways to create a successful lineup each week. Unless he goes off for like 4+ TD’s, the most likely positive result will be one where he is good value play in a week where there will be multiple good value plays at all positions.

  • fpm2015

I really don’t think they are going to shy away from their game plan of running zeke the dudes a beast to slow the pace of the game down so it doesn’t get into the hands of Manning this game is not going to be a very high scoring affair . dak will play the game manager role…. nothing more.

If he gets hit a few times on the run do you think dallas is really going to put him in harms way and blow their season with mark butt fumble sanchez?

  • deactivated60279

I am most likely gonna play Dak in cash and fade him in gpp most likely. However, remember the hype train on Devonte Adams last year? That didn’t work out too well. Although, maybe Marvin Jones is a more apt comparison. Although I guess adams had bad route running metrics going in to last year so there were indications.

  • osuryanf

The funniest comparison I keep seeing is Davante Adams to Dak.. What? I understand the ‘hype’ part of the comparison — but we’re talking about a #2-#3 receiver due to Jordy Nelson injury last year, to a starting QB who has THE BEST LINE in the NFL, against a Giants D who was NOT good last year, and a player who already showed he can play in the preseason.

    Exact same situation as Adams!
