I saw an awesome article here on RG but unless I’m blind, never saw a message board thread about this.

Did anyone watch the recent four part documentary “Action” on Showtime all about sports gambling? Episode #3 was 1/2 about ChipotleAddict/PapaGates and would love to know people’s thoughts.

    Anyone else watch?

  • kcroyalty29

Not a single person saw this?!?

  • bucherpsu08

I watched the first 2 parts last night so I haven’t seen the DFS part yet. I can’t believe people send that Vegas Dave guy money.

Thought it was an interesting & entertaining look behind the scenes of sports betting world. Definitely worth the watch.

I’ve seen one entire episode…the one that took place during the Superbowl with Vegas Dave. I was a little skeptical about how much money he was raking in but then they showed that screenshot from his Super Bowl package I think it was over $500k in packages bought. People are obviously desperate so they’ll pay anything for “expert” advice. Touts will always exist. Maybe I’m a party pooper but I always get a kick out of the loud cheering types in the sportsbooks. So insecure they have to let everyone know what side they are on…..

I watched the series and was too lazy to post about it.

The DFS spot was interesting, if anything to put a face to the name.

Most of the other parts were hit and miss.

Episode 3 was wild, getting to see Papagates and how hes does Skype his brother all the time, plus how he is an alien and sleeps in 2 inches of water in a dark deprivation tank….and that hes like 30 and living w 3 dudes like hes still in College or something…..So got myself an inflatable pool now in my garage, filled w sugarless kool aid, and before every slate I go get ready in it, then I skype my brother JabroniAddict and start working on the days slate…..Thanks “Action”

I watched it and loved the segments on the schmuck that is Vegas Dave. What a degenerate loser. A friend of mine lives in Vegas and was going to get this guy’s system…I did some research on Reddit and found his system purely banks on the (preconceived and false) notion that “good” teams don’t generally get swept in a series…I shit you not, this is his entire “strategy”. Take the favorite and if you lose the first game, double down on the favorite second game, and if that loses, double down again on the final game. I’m not shitting you guys, PEOPLE ACTUALLY PAY FOR THIS “SYSTEM”!

If the favorite wins the first game, Vegas Dave chalks that up to a W and adds it to his win/loss record…if the favorite loses the first but wins the second, that also counts as a win in Vegas Dave’s book. Idiotic.

The part with ChipotleAddict pissed me off almost more than the Vegas Dave segments for the reasons @mark-james1985 noted. It confirmed my suspicions in which the two brothers do actively collude and share lineups. Then when the asshole got in his depravation tank I couldn’t help but laugh. Of course the best part was when he admitted to usually having at least $125k in play on any given week of football and generally losing most but a few weeks. Of course, those weeks he wins are gigantic wins but it gives me some consolation to know he isn’t making a net profit most weeks.

fantastic show, only halfway through but this is a must watch for anyone who would be on rotogrinders

Lol yeah I read that too. And apparently he also targets 4 game series so his picks could go 1-3 and he counts it as 1-0.

Was a pretty interesting series. Only watched it this week after reading the original post.

I did find it interesting how many suckers there are out there though. $499 for Vegas Dave’s Whale Package…WTF!!! If they’re dropping that type of money for info from a guy who got lucky on a few long shots, how much are they betting? Would have enjoyed seeing them talk to some of the people who took his advice. Lucky for him he won’t be going to jail and will face a max of 5 years probation at his sentencing.

  • kcroyalty29

Did anyone else notice that they all but admitted Chipotle WAS PapaGates. When the Zeke catch costs him money, he says “I” and gets upset. And the name that had been at #1 wasn’t ChipotleAddict, it was papaGates, if you look closely. The two definitely collude (in my opinion) but what are we going to do about it? At least they help keep the sites going.

  • kcroyalty29

PS Did anyone else feel badly for Todd, the bigger guy that they portrayed as a gambling addict? I’ve met him on my trips out there to Vegas and he’s good people. IMO the most likeable person in the show.

  • gvn2fly1421

Will y’all leave the brothers alone, please? After all, they give to charity!

Todd seems like the best case scenario for gambling addiction to be honest, but it definitely makes me want to look for him next time I’m in Vegas and buy the guy a beer – he really does seem like an awesome guy to have a beer with and watch some football

Also, guys, when you point out that “he talks to his brother on skype” as “evidence” of collusion that’s just beyond absurd. Are we seriously advocating people cut off contact with family members if they both play dfs? Is that what this is coming to? The other thing about Zeke is interesting but easily explained. There’s zero chance they don’t split action given they are doing gpps. This is getting increasingly common in poker mtts too where a group of pros realized that individually they could each have losing years but if they pooled everything they’ll be much more secure. Fedor is actually part of one of those cartels – the joys of being a german mtt player who just happened to form a partnership with some kiddo named Fedor a few years back.

And, as someone who’s played high stakes poker, I think the isolation room is an awesome idea, gave me thoughts about doing it myself. I’m not saying this as a fanboy. I think they do indeed collude with each other. In fact, you could argue they’d be total idiots not to collude. I’m just saying that with the amount they have in play each night the level of stress is absurdly high. I see that isolation tank and think wow, that’s brilliant.

  • DFSx42

Also, I think Vegas Dave killed the golden goose showing the world how much money he was making. It’s going to produce an unreal amount of copy cats who will imitate his methods and undercut his pricings. He wanted to show off that he was a baller but all he did was invite others to take pieces of his pie away.

To be honest though, I do respect him a lot, say what you will about his ability to handicap the games, what really matters is how he really understands the audience and how to market to them. Guy is amazing at what he does. If he ever had financial problems, I’d hire him at a startup and put him in charge of marketing. He may crude, but words can’t express how impressed I am at his marketing skills.

The dude is straightup Microsoft, understands perfectly the quality of the product itself isn’t nearly important as the sales and marketing channel.

You can follow Todd on Twitter. @TWishnev Definitely agree he was the most likable personality on the show. Looks like he’s working toward a healthier lifestyle which is great news.

You make some great points, DFSx42, but I still think ChipotleAddict and papagates are colluding with each other, which falls in a grey area anyway since they are brothers and happen to be some of the highest-volume players in DFS. But I’m still going to hate on them…I have that right! Haha. Nothing feels better to me than when I beat one of the pros in a tournament, be it heads-up, small field, or GPP. To them it doesn’t mean shit, but to me, it’s always a nice feeling. I had a huge night tonight on DK so I’m not complaining, but man, I still hate to see their names at the top of leaderboards!

Also, to those talking about Todd Wishnev, he definitely seems like a great guy to watch a game and have a few beers with.

    be it heads-up

Why do you play them heads-up? Heads-up to begin with are very hard money makers. Unlike double-ups (although still important in those as well) you REALLY need to select your opponents carefully in h2h.

Just took a look. He needs to stop betting baseball. His plays are atrocious.

  • sjmay111

Joined a $10 multiplier last night JUST because ChipotleAddict was a player, did it to see his plays vs mine….but not sure what is real with him or not ie, was that strictly a computer lineup etc?

  • baseballs

decided to try it myself. spent 8 hours in an isolation tank then totally bricked the quarter arcade

  • MotownGreek

You can look at the ResultsDB for free here on RG. It shows you every entrants lineup construction as well as other useful information. Why pay $10 when you can pay $0?

Edit: Missed the quote, then realized I can’t delete this post. See next post!

MotownGreek – I play them heads-up on occasion because the pros are generally the only guys doing the higher limit heads-ups. I don’t do heads-ups a whole lot though.
