DK have been running a lot of inter-league slates recently which is great, and hopefully will push more people into the soccer contests. I feel like the midweek fixtures for the Champions League have always been their best bet for attracting new customers, so they have decided to run a Valentines Special this week for the UCL games.

    Slate (Split over 2 days):

    Feb 14th
    Benfica V Borussia Dortmund
    Paris Saint-Germain V Barcelona

    Feb 15th
    Real Madrid V Napoli
    Bayern Munich V Arsenal

Some great games on this slate, and this is the stage of the UCL which is the most entertaining to watch IMO. With Barcelona playing away at PSG, that game will be great to watch but also provide the biggest decisions from a DFS standpoint.

CR7 being priced at $10.9k will obviously be the other decision.

I haven’t really dug into the slate yet but this is definitely a GREAT slate. Biggest favorites are Bayern Munich and Real Madrid but both at around -200. Certainly not overwhelming. While both teams are fully capable of scoring 3 or 4 or more on anyone, those games could easily be 2-0, 2-1, or even 1-1 type games.

Also unusual to get so many stars on the same slate. If I recall in earlier rounds and last year, CR7 and Messi, were almost always on opposite slates.

Will likely come down to seeing team sheets and where we might be able to find some value to fit in more of the high floor/high ceiling options.

I think I’m gonna pass on this slate. I’ve never been a fan of contests that run more than one day which is why I don’t play golf. Just don’t like the feeling of having money held for more than a day. Wish DK just did 2 game slates.

  • SelfCharmer

4 games slates over 2 days is massively better than a 2 game slates, the variance is huge when you have such a small pool of players to choose from.

As for the money held for 2 days, if you are actually managing your BR, 2 days shouldn’t impact anything.

    Just my Opinion

    Why no interleague threads?

Agreed. They ran 2 game slates for UCL last year and they just had massive overlap. My guess is they will still put up a 2 game slate on Wednesday after the 4 game slate starts on Tuesday.

I haven’t had time to even play any soccer contests for about a month, so haven’t been creating threads.

You can always make one yourself though…

I’d usually be playing for peripheral stats these first two weeks. Historically the first leg of the round of 16 has been low scoring, probably because the home teams were second in their groups so are usually underdogs who are trying to keep it tight. It’s the second leg where the goals are scored.

Except last year it didn’t go that way at all. I’m not sure I’m feeling it this year either.

Uefa.com will have lineups an hour before lock. Obviously only for the 2 games today though. I don’t play on FanDuel but if they have a 4 game set, then the lineups for tomorrow you would have to use an educated guess. A lot of projected lineups floating around out there that you should be able to get a pretty good idea who should start. Still a little risky outside the obvious guys (Ronaldo, Lewandowski, etc.).

Nope, Fanduel doesn’t have the green check that Draftkings has. Just another reason why DK>FD.

Yahoo even has a box you can check that makes invisible anyone that’s been left out of a posted lineup.

In the rare times I play at FD, if I’m in a hurry on a big slate I’ll keep a Yahoo window open and use it as a quick way to keep track of who’s in and out.

Thanks, i really want to get into dfs soccer, i really like the fast pace of it. But im finding little to no info overall to help a new player

This might be just me. But i dont really see a reason to play Ronaldo over a guy like lewadowski. Lewadowski has the better matchup and has been in the same goal scoring prowess as CR7. But Lewadowski is 2k cheaper.

One word of advice. Max out the beginner games and stay at the low stakes.

I have never seen a sport in which the skill rises as quickly when moving up in stakes as much as soccer. It’s insane.

I have had top 20% finishes in the free roll at end up in the 80th percentile in the GPPs. Some of that is due to trains but a lot of it is due to the fact that the skill level rises exponentially as you move up in stakes.

When entering H2Hs beware of the top guys as listed here: https://rotogrinders.com/rankings?type=soc

thanks, but i cant play in beginner contests. But thanks for the tip. Kind of surprised that soccer seems to have alot of people ive never heard of dominating. I just figured it would be the ususal suspects but i only see a few im familiar with. All the h2h available are at the top of that list lol

Yea, it’s more of a niche sport. But it’s growing at a pretty solid pace. And there’s a bigger segment of players from the UK than in other sports because of familiarity and earlier start times.

While I do think Lewandowski is a fine option, the matchups are about the same from a Vegas odds standpoint.

Also, CR7 is always going to have a higher floor than Lewandowski. Ronaldo averages over 6 shots per game while Lewandowski averages less than 4. Ronaldo also puts 2-3 per game on target while Lewandowski has just over 1 per game. Ronaldo is also much more likely to grab an assist/be involved in goals he does not score.

Team sheets and what value presents itself will determine whether it’s worth it to pay up for Ronaldo or not.

Stole my thunder on what I was going to say. I’m likely off Messi and Ronaldo this week, just don’t see the need to spend up for either. I just don’t like the value plays at defender or goalkeeper for starters. There are also some price/ opp guys that are too good to pass up. Marco Reus at 8000 is about 500-1000 too cheap in my opinion. Luis Suarez is the cheapest of the MSN and arguably in the best form, 8600 and no Thiago Silva for him to contend with (not convinced Kimpembe and Marquinhos can keep him out). Value? Go to Napoli. As someone who is watching a lot of Serie A (have to for the podcast that I host) they are in ridiculously good form and will make it very uncomfortable on Real Madrid in that first leg. They’re not going there to play for a 0-0. Just some helpful input.

87.5% of my roster will be from tomorrow’s games. Key is finding that value play from today that will let me pay up for the juicy studs tomorrow.

it’s a good strategy because most will want the security of knowing who is in lineups on the first game

Im going to be heavy on Napoli and Benfica in this slate for GPPs

I know the odds are the same.somewhat but i just think Arsenal have not played good in the last few weeks. I just dont think the Arsenal defenders will be able to slow down Lewadowski. While i think Napoli has the better players to try and slow CR7.

Every time Arsenal has played top end competition this year they lose basically. Just the way i see it. But CR7 is the best so yeah lol

That’s funny—I try not to let it affect lineup construction too much but I always felt it was easier to leave a lot of spaces for the second day to maximize flexibility. Leaving just one slot, or a couple of slots and planning to use them both on max-price players, can get awkward.

I’m not expecting any major lineup surprises at this point anyway. Most of the doubts, like Jonas, we already know the likely alternatives.

Interesting take… Hopefully that is the case. I can see a scenario where a lot of fish see the green check marks and stack the crap out of today’s games. Hopefully that is what happens. I just see Bayern/Madrid going off tomorrow.

I guess I look at it like NBA (even though this year there is no late swap), the security of knowing lineups will lead many to be heavier on the earlier games in the slate? Just an assumption I had.
