some early thoughts on jan-03-2015 card jones has a huge reach advantage here-84-5 to 71 cormier has wt. adv. 238 to 205 i have had fair am’t. of success never betting against undefeated fighters cormier is 15-0 as is myles jury got e’m both damm lombard and honiguchi are both $12k on draftkings my sleeper is castillo gl.

How can Cormier have a 33lb weight advantage? Don’t they both need to be 205lbs for a Light Heavyweight Title fight?

I’ll have a blog up next week. There’s a lot of interesting fights and underdogs like you mentioned agenda.

They only need to be 205 lb at the weigh in, and then they can refuel for 24 hours. Cormier is a bigger guy and a professional weight cutter

  • androo2008

Lol name one fighter that isn’t a professional weight cutter. And Jones doesn’t walk around at 205 so I don’t know where you got that from. Jones is gonna put on a striking clinic.

  • androo2008

Also Jon jones only loss was a fluke DQ

Can somebody throw me a link or LMK how this will be scored on DK? Thanks !

There’s not much weight difference, Cormier was 224 for the Big Country fight, though he no doubt walks around a bit heavier. Jones’ out of competition weight is said to be around 230.

    Thanks!

In terms of underdog value, Cody Garbrandt can beat Marcus Brimage. He has a good amateur boxing background. Fast hands, decent power and good accuracy. He doesn’t waste many punches. Brimage comes in wild quite a bit. I could definitely see Garbrandt ending the fight quick. He’s way down there at $8700. I’m using him, for sure.

Does anyone know if there will be any GPPs for Jones/Cormier?

  • Tsw1999

Somebody’s gonna get knocked out in the Cannonier/Jordan fight. Even though Burkman has never been KO’ed, I don’t know how he’ll survive against Lombard. I don’t see Gaudinot winning, but at $7900 if he can make it the distance, maybe he’ll score enough points to make rostering him worthwhile. I can’t see anything but a decision in the Dunham/Damm fight (with Damm just defending) and I’m staying away.

Barao..Anthony Johnson.. Many others…Many fighters have a horrible time cutting weight and it really affects them during the fight. Cormier was an olympic wrestler and has been cutting his weight his entire life.

He almost died trying to cut down to 211 at the 2008 Olympics, so he hasn’t always been the best at cutting weight. He’s better at it now, not heading into the final weeks of training at 240 is probably a good idea.

Haha true that, I’ve heard he’s in good shape so I don’t expect anything out of the ordinary.

Are they not using any of the prelim fights? There will be tons of identical lineups if they only use 5 fights.

Exactly. not sure if they really thought about this..

  • onyxmeth

What are you guys talking about? The slate has 18 fighters from 9 matches to roster.

  • ewalker405

    Thoughts on this lineup?
    Paul Felder 9000
    Cody Garbrandt 8700
    Shawn Jordan 11000
    Myles Jury 8800
    Hector Lombard 12100

For anyone that played the first DK MMA tourneys last week, what we’re the winning scores in the different GPP’s? Also, did most of the winning entries split or did someone pick a unique lineup that won?

Thanks in advance for the help.

  • iownYU

I will be in vegas this weekend…thinking I need to stubhub some tickets to this ishhhhhh

  • ranoa513

To my knowledge there was only one contest for last week, as a test. The winner was a unique entry and scored 424.5. Min cash was 355.5 (50 of 704).

  • lilscrapnike

I believe the winning lineup was in the low to mid 400’s. There was no split, just an outright winner. There should be a sufficient number of combinations (choosing 18 fighters amongst five spots) for there to be enough variation, as long as the tournament entrants doesn’t exceed a certain amount of people.

  • DontThrowPick6

i have the exact same lineup….lol

  • Pug_ca

Last week had an abnormal number of stoppages though (only 3 decisions on the entire card), so I’m not sure that a 400+ score will be needed to win on a regular basis, given that an average of about 50% of fights go to decision
