Looks like they will be adding Mariya Agapova vs Hannah Cifers to headline the prelims – when DK has it I’ll update.

*Originally Agapova vs Melissa Gatto – Gatto out, Cifers is the replacement.

    What we think… $9100/$7100 or $8700/$7500?

Either way, this card is just awful.

Edit: And Benoit replaced by Zarrukh Adashev (?)

On another note, that UFC 251 card looking very good if it holds up.

Ah, I missed that one, thanks! Oh, wow – dude only has 4 MMA fights?

*Also my bad, I had this as a Fight Night, but since it’s also on ESPN that is not correct. I’ve updated it. Feel like I’ll be editing this mofo card every day.

So, “Fight Island” is really Yas Island in Abu Dhabi where they had Khabib/Poirier. If I remember correctly, it was hot & humid as hell. Questionable gas tanks beware.

Three title fights – not bad. Don’t know why Aldo is getting one, but w. Don’t see Max/Volk going any differently than the first time *saw that Max has a new hairstyle going. This might change everything.. Mas holding out and tough luck for Leon Edwards – Usman/Burns is interesting. What an ascent for Burns in WW. Hope Andrade/Rose holds up, another good one *I do fear for Rose’s neck though – she barely made it out of there with it intact last time :0.

  • thevogaman

So Adashev $7700, Agapova $8700, and Cifers $7500. Still hate this card, but I can’t not play.

  • someclevername

I need to look more into Agapova – Cifers looks small at Strawweight and now short notice at Flyweight. Pova gonna have a big size advantage and 6 of her 8 wins are finishes (5 in the 1st round). I might get there.

Might get myself into trouble with Jourdain – I’m still salty I didn’t play him against Choi (and played Choi!). Believe he has potential, but Fili way more well rounded & just the better fighter right now. Jourdain fights with this aggressive, willy nilly style – can easily see Fili catching him with a hard counter. Also can see Fili just taking him down as his tdd is, uh, not great. This a heart vs head scenario lol my track record is suspect on those.

Angel of Death’s tdd is great – think Rosa can hang on the feet? I don’t. My concern is Kevin’s chin – he was hurt badly, several times, in that Ige fight and then just flat out smoked in the Tukhugov fight. Does Rosa carry enough power & the skills necessary to make it count if he can’t get it to the ground?

*Watched that Burgos/Rosa fight to refresh my memory about Rosa’s stand up and apparently I forgot just how many f’ng kicks he throws. He might chew up Kevin’s lead leg.

I don’t know much about Ivy or Christian Aguilera, but definitely looking at that $7200 for Christian. Guess I should actually watch some of their fights.

Wonder if this makes Merab a slightly worse play. I know Borg would just keep getting up and probably end up being taken down 15+ times in that fight… maybe this kid accepts bottom and Merab just holds him down.

Good point – F this card.

Seriously… there’s a good chance someone is going to win $100k with Jessica Eye in their fucking lineup.

UFC Fight Night (or whatever they’re calling it now) Nickname Analysis

Jessica “Evil” Eye vs Cynthia “No Nickname” Calvillo
Evil is an obvious nickname for Eye, but it’s still good. I don’t blame Calvillo for not coming up with a nickname to counter it. But is it good enough, it’s questionable on this card.

Marvin “The Italian Dream” Vettori vs Karl “Baby K” Roberson
I’ve always loved the Dream nickname ever since “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes. This time he is going against a horrible nickname. Baby K is a nickname that will never intimidate anyone.

Andre “Touchy” Fili vs Charles “Air” Jourdain
A matchup of obvious and cringeworthy nicknames. Should be a draw just for the unoriginality.

Jordan “No Nickname” Espinosa vs Mark “Bumblebee” De La Rosa
Big break for the Bumblebee to be going up against someone without a nickname. However, the Bumblebee is an amazingly weak nickname. Bumblebees are mildly annoying, but if De La Rosa were to change his nickname to “The Murder Hornet”, he would be locked in for me.

Mariya “No Nickname” Agapova vs Hannah “Shockwave” Cifers
Shockwave would be a decent nickname, but unfortunately it reminds me of the Shockmaster from WCW wrestling who made the worst debut ever. Probably fading this fight.

Kevin “Angel of Death” Aguilar vs Charles “Boston Strong” Rosa
No contest since we’re fighting in Las Vegas. Angel of Death destroy Boston Strong probably in under 10 seconds. If the fight was in Boston, Boston Strong could probably last a minute. Rosa’s UFC record in Boston is 3-0, away from Boston is 0-4.

Julia “Raging Panda” Avila vs Gina “Danger” Mazany
Danger is a good nickname if you’re looking for a salary nickname saver, but I love the Raging Panda nickname. Worth spending up for.

Tyson “No Nickname” Nam vs Zarrukh “The Lion” Adashev
The Lion is pretty generic, but he’s facing a no nickname opponent. Fade

Jordan “Native Psycho” Griffin vs Darrick “No Nickname” Minner
Don’t blame Minner at all for going without a nickname because you’re not going to beat Native Psycho.

Anthony “Aquaman” Ivy vs Christian “The Beast” Aguilera
I think I need to fade this one too. Since this fight is not underwater, I really don’t like Aquaman. Aquaman was the weak link of the Superfriends, even worse than the Wonder Twins. The Beast is a good nickname, but I just can’t get past his real name. Every time I see it, I think Christina Aguilera, which isn’t a bad thing, but not good for a fight.

Merab “The Machine” Dvalishvili vs Ray “The Taxmexican Devil” Borg
I had to save this one for last because The Taxmexican Devil is a much better nickname than The Machine. (Ooooffff, I just got taken down out of nowhere). Maybe The Machine nickname isn’t so bad, but The Taxmexican Devil is great. (ooofff, just got taken down again). It should be a close fight (I’m taken down again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again). Finally, the towel is thrown in. The Taxmexican Devil says he’s seen enough and is out of the fight. Gustavo Lopez has taken his place and has refused to take a nickname because he fears it will anger The Machine.

    Optimal Lineup
    Raging Panda $9,300
    The Machine $9,200
    Native Psycho $8,900
    Angel of Death $8,400
    The Beast $7,200
    Danger $6,900

    Summary
There is no way not to start a lineup without Raging Panda, The Machine, Native Psycho and Angel of Death. Unfortunately, that only leaves two options and we have to stack the Raging Panda-Danger fight.

Your whole post is great, but this legit made me laugh for a few minutes lol.

You putting it in the $15?

It won’t go in the $15, but definitely worth spending a $0.25 ticket on.

God… this card. Hoping Baby K/Vettori is still on. It’s legit the only fight I have any interest in at this point.

  • someclevername

If I was smart I’d withdraw my entry from this shitshow…if I was smart.

    In summary:

Eye missed by a quarter pounder w/cheese – she needed the hoop and did not look well. Roberson went full idgaf. Adashev also missed, but he’s coming in on, what, 3 days notice. Minner’s weight cut went sideways so the Griffin/Minner fight is off. 10 fights left. Good luck.

Vettori most likely pissed, but I don’t see him turning down this fight. Maybe he can view it as a positive since he’ll get part of Baby K’s purse lol.

I’m also interested in Fili/Jourdain to see if my guy can pull off the upset once again or if Fili just jabs him to death.

Yeah, I favor Fili a lot, but Jourdain will scrap and won’t quit… so I’ll have exposure.

My stupid prediction bound to fail… I think Cifers is going to win pretty easily at low ownership.

Don’t hate the Cifers play at all. Agapova is f’ng wild lol swinging for them fences! Cifers did not do terrible on the feet w/Hill, obviously a much more composed, technical striker compared to Agapova. My only issue w/her is she’s so damn undersized and that seems to matter more in WMMA. Trade the Women’s Featherweight division for Atomweight. There would actually be competitive fights and a deeper talent pool.

One thing I’ll say for Agapova – if she hurts Cifers she will go balls to the wall for the finish. Always like to see that for DFS. I wish Cifers went for takedowns more often, but she very well could get it done standing.

I’m expecting Jourdain to lose, but I have to play him. If he wins and I’m not on him for the second time…I just can’t lol.

Anyone know if there are any elite leg kick fighters on this slate or anyone that is particularly bad at checking leg kicks?

Vettori doesn’t check, Roberson likes to kick. Watch Vettori’s fight against Ferriera. Also keep in mind, that was almost a year ago.

Vogamon: That is very bold. I for sure have Agapova, coming out of ATT with Nunes, Poirier, Masvidal. The striking is elite and I expect to see the 23 year old Agapova come out looking better than her last fight 8 months ago. Cifers is going up in weight and generally, striking power goes up for some of these fighters, Cifers might be quicker but she’ll be at a 6.5in. reach disadvantage as well. I can see Cifers maybe hurting Agapova, maybe a chance of a KO, but I doubt it, in the end Agapova gets the win pretty damn easily and I hate that cause I like Cifers and I don’t know why her manager hates her.
