I was initially picking Condit, but he’s got porous takedown defense and Maia is a “Taedown Machine”, especially for those first two rounds!! Maia would be a strong favorite for me if he didn’t gass so hard past round 2 or 3, but Maia has outwrestled better wrestlers so I think he can get it done here!! What are your thoughts on the rest of the card?!? Anything you’re excited about seeing?!? Can Sam Alvey KO Casey, or will the King be able to win the first two rounds before he gasses in the third!! What u guys thinking?!?!?

  • Divine_Prodigy

Maia takes down whoever he wants to take down and is very strong at welterweight, Maia by decision…
He won’t get tired wrestling….Sam Alvey should starch Keving “Gas King” Casey.
Looking forward to Joe Lauzon finishing Jim Miller

You’re not worried about the gas tank though!! Those takedowns get few and far between in those last 2 rounds!!

I am worried I know Maia has mad ground skills but you look at the few submissions he has had since 2013. 2 submissions in his last 8. Matt Brown and Neil Magny. Condit has way more skills. Most of Maia finishes came 2012 and earlier. I really like Condit to win not saying it will be a finish but he has a chance to KO Maia. The last time Condit was submitted was 2006 he has had 20 fights since and has not been submitted.

With this being 5 rounds , it does worry me a bit , but I don’t see Maia submitting Condit at all ….just getting the takedown early in each round and riding out top position for the rest of the round…..Maia isn’t one of those submission over position guys either…he’s very strong on top and almost unshakeable….Maia won’t submit Condit…Condit has BJJ too…though of course Maia probably far outclasses his…but Maia can’t really get tired if he’s on top forcing Condit to work…. At this weight class…he’s taken down everyone…Condit will be no different. Gas tank gives me little pause though

Due to issues with the timing of Ning Guangyou receiving his visa, Guangyou’s bout with Marlon Vera will not take place this Saturday in Vancouver.

Yep but what I do not understand is they are claiming due to timing, is there not an expedited service he could go through to push his visa so he could make the obligations he had… He is traveling to Canada I just checked he could get a visa in 3 days :))) Normally it takes 4 days.

Odds have been out since this morning come on DK set the pricing.

  • zelda3024

Pricing is out. I have to scratch my head at some of the pricing again. Campbell favored according to Vegas but his pricing is 8800 while Silva is 10600. There are a few other fights I have no clue how the pricing could be where it is.

That one caught me off guard… Was doing my article and noticed that the fight had been dropped! I probably wasn’t going to play it anyways!!

Same here I might have had a few cards with either one but what really sucks is now we are at 11 fights and how much that alone takes away from other people who planned on using both fighters heavy.

Ohhhh how i have a strong hunch Bec Rawlings is gonna run through PVZ, There isn’t much of a reach advantage, Bec has 2 inches of height , but i feel she will be much stronger and ragdoll PVZ….could be wrong

  • Bellanca

    I tend to agree

Paige is scrapper she looks in amazing shape and I know her whole training was all about her upcoming bout. What bothers me about this fight is her price at 10800 I mean wow for a fight that most likely could end in a decision that is too much for me to pay.

I can also see your point and I would most likely if I had a hunch pay the price on Rawlings as well.

Rawlings has one of the worst ITD props on the card at +675. Don’t see her scoring much.

  • afcangelo

Double fade for me with the women, no way am I paying almost 11k for a really over rated (imo) Paige Van Zant. As for the main event, I’ve had this one circled since they announced it. What an intriguing match up! Damian Maia is probably the most dangerous submission grappler in the division, and I even think he has the tools to compete for the strap at 170, he has run through the division with little exception, and lately he looks like an absolute monster, gets control really quickly, suffocates his opponent, doesn’t let up, and works towards an eventual submission or possible TKO after some really exhausting ground control.

Carlos Condit however, if he can keep it standing, can really punish Maia on his feet, and the longer this fight goes, the more the advantage goes to Condit. However, as was pointed out above, Condit’s takedown defense leaves a bit to be desired, and if Maia gets you down, he’s like an octopus that latches on top of your body for the rest of the round. 5 rounds in this match up is a lot different than 3, and even though I favored Maia when the fight was announced, I’m starting to change my mind and I think Condit can drag this fight into the later rounds, and if he does, Maia has shown to fade in the later rounds. The thing I worry about with Condit early though is, if he throws those heavy kicks like he likes to do, Maia could catch one and then take the fight to the ground. It wouldn’t surprise me if The Natural Born Killer saves the kicks for the later rounds when he already has Maia gassed.

Pretty damn good card for a Fight Night though I’d say

  • Divine_Prodigy

One thing to note…. word from Maia’s camp apparently is that they deff know and want to end this fight early. They know of Condit’s cardio and I’m sure their own fighter’s cardio history….We all know Condit’s gonna hit the ground….I’m just now expecting Maia to be more aggressive with the subs

    Early weigh-ins to note

Laprise missed weight by 4 lbs. at 155…That’s never a good sign. Also for some reason Shane Campbell’s weight wasn’t listed in the results…not sure why…it’s pretty strange. But yea a -310 missing weight……don’t like it at all.

By missing weight in this case, does that mean that he was 4 pounds over or under weight? I assume you mean he was 4 pounds over in the 155 weight class or no? Curious as to what effect that might have on him…

  • bbbomb

    • Blogger of the Month

Yeah he needed to weigh in at 156 and he was too heavy. There’s a large range of effects depending on the fighter. It could mean he’ll be weaker in the fight because the weight cut was too hard on him. Most of the time I don’t think it has a huge effect, fighters lose 20% of their purse but don’t really think it changes much. If his odds drop signifcantly, however, that’s something to note. So far they haven’t he’s currently -280.

  • JHols1nger

BJJSCOUT (YouTube) put up an excellent preview video for the Maia Condit fight for those of you that are interested.

  • NewMike

Campbell weighed in at 156. Oliveira weighed in at 143, which make me think Pettis will have a big size advantage.

This is looking like a real shitshow of a card for DFS now, that was probably one of the only fights to target with a highly probably finish that involved lesser known fighters. I see a ton of decisions for this event and overall lower DFS scores. Will be interesting to see how things play out.

On a side note, I’m glad DK didn’t bump up roster sizes to 6 fighters, can you imagine having to pick 6 fighters on a 10 fight card? Talk about a duplicate nightmare. I think it’s going to be bad enough as is…

Agreed. That was a bad fight to cancel
