Nice weather for the first couple days of the Valero Texas Open in lovely San Antonio, TX… but things turn a bit ugly on Saturday.
Thursday – Early morning showers, light winds.
AM – We could see some showers overnight Weds in to early Thursday morning, but the NWS has rain ending before 8am. Winds will be steady all day, between 5-10mph through the morning and beyond.
PM – Rain will be long gone and clouds will clear as well, winds will stay similar to the AM, somewhere between 5-10mph.
Friday – Dry, increasing winds.
AM – Winds will start around 5mph, should gradually increase and be 5-10 by mid-morning.
PM – Afternoon winds will be at or even a hair over 10mph sustained. We will also see some rain late Friday, but current thinking is that golf will be over by the time the rain starts.
Saturday and Sunday – Saturday is the worst day of the tournament, with scattered showers and t-storms. Sunday we get back to the nice stuff, chance of showers and storms early, likely not impacting play.
Overall – Two ways to look at this, and I don’t think one of them is much of an advantage over the other: 1) Pick up golfers early Thursday, some showers overnight Weds and early Thursday could help soften up the course. 2) Pick up golfers early Friday, avoid peak winds on Friday afternoon. I don’t think either edge will be all that helpful, and you can’t have them both, so at the end of the day I don’t think the draw will matter all that much.
