Has Victiv announced what their MLB roster construction and scoring will look like?

I went to the site but it’s not up there.

  • Daj5mg

Maybe you there is a max of one player per position but you get to choose to fade a certain position…..

    Great idea, Putz.

We’ll be running 9 total athlete spots. Seven of those athlete spots will be:

    - 4 Infielders (flexible between 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, C)

    - 3 Outfielders (flexible between RF, LF, CF)

Does this mean seven batters and two pitchers or seven batters and two utility/flex batters? Nobody will ever roster a catcher in my opinion if its the former.

Im almost positive its not going to be as clear as you guys are thinking. I expect the salaries to be extremely tight and make it basically impossible to not roster a C or SS. We will see though, its definitely interesting, not sure how Im going to like it personally but will give it a try

    Love the roster format.

Victiv’s pricing will be tight enough to force you into playing those positions.

I hate seeing players react negatively to something just because it’s different. DFS is so young, it’s foolish to assume formats have been perfected.

Can’t wait for MLB to get here. I need more Victi

A couple weeks away from mobile site. This will not be an iOS app, but specific responsive mobile functionality when accessing VICTIV from your phone / tablet.

Ty for the update… that’s a start like the site just can’t navagate it very easily yet

Yep. Can’t roster all 1B/3B if you exceed the cap.

Funny how people can say they don’t like this or aren’t a fan prior to even seeing it. I’m not saying I love it. but at least wait until you can actually put a lineup together or play a game before completely dismissing something. If anything, I’d say their work on PGA at least earns them a shot.

If it is differnt than other sites than I might play exclusively on Victiv bevause that will give me an edge over someone trying the site out.

I like the flexibility but I’m concerned it will eliminate the need to balance production from each position. For example SS and Catcher are generally weaker offensive positions. When forced to draft those positions, you need to balance paying for a handful of elite players at that position or totally punting the position to spend elsewhere. If you do not require SS and Catcher, then people will simply take a bottom tier 1st baseman over a medium strength SS. But kudos for thinking outside the box and we’ll see how it plays out in terms of roster construction.

If every player is priced in accordance with expected performance this is a non issue. A bottom tier 1st baseman could very well be priced more then a medium strength SS.

This setup should eliminate a lot of the roster overlap we see on other DFS sites. And that is pretty cool.

Being New, VICTIV should be looking for a segment of the Fantasy Market that is currently Not being capitalized on by the Big Sites. This “niche” Market would be the Snake Draft segment of Sports Fantasy. There currently are hordes of Fantasy Players aimlessly meandering in search of Snake Draft action. If I didn’t know better, I would swear this was a scene out of “The Walking Dead”.

    @Redskins4 – two thumbs up.

Our player pricing is positionally agnostic, which frees us up to loosen positional restrictions without making the game systematically ‘game-able’. There are good and bad players across positions – salaries are driven by models trained on historical data that includes player performance, ball-park factors, strength of opponent, player position, batting order, relevant splits, etc. These models are in the works right now so I can’t tell you that position doesn’t matter – but to be honest I’d be surprised if a player’s position still hangs around as being statistically significant after much more predictive stats like wOBA, slugging %, or even just batting average are included. That being said – if position ends up improving the model it will be considered in the salaries.

This is a great point. I believe sub positions and looser roster formats such as this increase the skill ceiling of the game by making it much more complex to identify so called “must plays”. The more restrictive a roster format is, the easier it becomes for a below average player to approach an optimal lineup construction.

The more roster flexibility there is, the more your outcome will be a function of your skills as a DFSer (assuming the pricing is tight of course).

As the available information to the average player grows exponentially (in terms of picks, point projections, etc), the only way for the skill edge to remain (or grow) in DFS is through lineup construction.

    “Sorry in advance, status quo.”

    Good one!

  • 1971hof

I’ll give it a go no matter what they come up with. Hope Rotogrinders have a good article or two on how to best approach their scoring system. If I don’t like it I’ll just stick to Fanduel for baseball and Victiv for golf.

  • gjtgjtgjt

I love this idea and agree with most, flexibility leads to less overlap/more skill/more fun and complex decision making. Now please don’t ruin it with an RP slot…

I deposited to try it out.
I’m a little confused, is there no way to create H2H games?

From the main lobby, we run a group of H2H Anonymous contests. Submit your entries and they’ll be randomly matched with an opponent at the start of the contest.

If you’re looking to put non-anonymous H2H contests into the lobby, click to the Head-to-Head tab at the top of the lobby.

Good to know – for some reason I was under the impression that anonymous contests were the only H2H options available.

    Summary of Victiv MLB Roster:

    Pitching Staff (!)
    4 IF
    3 OF
1 Pinch Hitter (not sure if it’ll be a lower-tiered price player like they use in NBA)

Top 7 of 8 point scorers count toward a lineup’s final score.
