    I saw this on Twitter:

Does anyone know if this offer is valid for all DK users who exceed these thresholds?

Imo its silly that you think this is hurting you….people who get a free entry into a contest are much more likely to not give 100% effort than people who paid their own money to get in. Plus they are much more likely to forget to draft their team and give you free overlay in your tournament.

It is of my opinion that if you think people are so naive as to believe this statement you are demeaning them. Give a low stakes player a free 150 or 300 ticket and see if they don’t give thier best effort or remember to draft their team.

Your story is great and I commend and applaud you on your succes but the truth of the matter is you are the exception not the rule and that 95 percent of players are at a competitive disadvantage because of things the sites do to cater to their top clients. This isn’t to say they can’t overcome them but they shouldn’t be afraid to raise issues they question.

If you and aejones and thebobrob and wzdrich joined a 5300 gpp contest in a timely order but one hour out the site realizes it isn’t going to fill then I and only select others should not have the opportunity to enter the contest for 4000 or any discounted to price to offset the loss the site may incur. It is not fair to those who enter In a timely manner or for those who were not granted the offer including those who already enters and paid the full entry fee according to the TOS for that contest.

    Mphst18,

everything you have said on this thread is wrong.

by your logic deposit bonuses are “unjust”. and the refer-a-friend program. and also ebay. and credit card rewards programs. and promotional hbo packages when you sign up for cable television.

please come back from planet nonsense.

You and others in this thread are an inspiration. I’ve realized that I’m not paying the same prices as others for items I buy every day. From now on, I’m going to be speaking with the manager everywhere I go to inquire why I’m not getting the same pricing and perks as their best customers.

I already tried it out this morning. A friend told me that certain fleet services will purchase all their gasoline from the same company in order to get $0.05-$0.10 off per gallon. I stopped at my local Speedway gas station this morning and let them know I’m expecting to pay the same price that the fleets do.

Next month I’m going on a vacation. I just learned that some Business Travelers get upgraded to first class when space is unsold. I called Delta and let them know I’m expecting an upgrade to first class. It doesn’t matter that I only fly once every few years. I deserve the same offers that the guy who flys weekly gets. Delta said they’d get back to me about the upgrade.

I also plan to call DirecTV later today. I saw a commercial where they are giving away NFL Sunday ticket to new customers. If they are giving it away for free to new people then I expect to never pay for it again. After all, it isn’t fair to give something away to people if others are paying for it.

    +1 Awesome post!

MA regulations attempt to address this practice……http://www.mass.gov/ago/consumer-resources/consumer-information/dfs/

    10. DFSOs shall not offer free or discounted entries to fill a contest in the three hour period prior to the earliest lock time for that contest, unless such free or discounted entries are made available pursuant to a plan that does not unreasonably disadvantage the players that have already entered that contest. For the purposes of this provision, an entry shall be considered “free” or “discounted” if it is less than the full entry fee for the contest or if the full entry fee is collected subject to refund, account credit, offset or reimbursement on any basis.

I believe that statement. Thats why I said it. Perhaps I’m wrong, but I don’t understand how it can be demeaning to give advice that comes from what I personally believe to be true.

I doubt the sites would be willing to release this information, but if they were then I would be willing to prop bet that a higher % of people with free entries forget to draft a team than people who paid to play the contest. Do you actually dispute this? If so, would you be willing to bet on it? If not, why are you spending time and effort trying to argue against it right now? Moreover when someone such as myself gives his opinion on this issue and you disagree, why are you so quick to assume that you’re the one who is correct? I have 10+ years in the poker/DFS world- in general I think I know what I“m talking about. Imo changing this basic attitude/approach is one of the most important things a beginning DFS player can do. Imo there is an inverse correlation between success and over-confidence in your own opinion when disagreeing with those who have had success. If you often find yourself in long arguments with people who are successful in your industry, then you’re probably taking an incorrect approach.

  • Mphst18

You believe it but no one else does it’s a ridiculous statement unless you are taking about micro stakes.

Ah yes the poker world the bible for dfs and integrity. That worked out well for the industry.

see above apparently MA who you praise as “getting it” seems to agree. As far as your prop bet goes your elusive data is going to be dirty.
. A free entry into a 1 dollar contest vs a free entry into a 5300 dollar contest is going to yield very different results. So while you are Smart enough to know that the majority of the free entire handed out are at micro stakes you know what that data will show. But go get 300 plus data and see what that looks like I’m sure you wouldn’t bet on it then.

I believe it too. So “no one else does” is a ridiculouis statement. He simply said someone is more likely to not give full effort or even forget the entry when it is free. That is pretty logical. It won’t be the majority but that is not what he said.

these analogies have no relation to DFS.

the gas analogy would make sense if one of the tanks is filled with a super gas that allows the buyer to get 10,000 miles per gallon.

the airline analogy would make sense if one of the first class seats had $10,000 under it.

the Sunday NFL ticket analogy would make sense if a new customer getting it for free affects your ability to get it as well.

i’m all for sites awarding high volume players with free trips, experiences, etc. i’d rather them do that than give free entries to a potentially overlay’d (not sure that’s a word) GPP i paid to play in where we’re all shooting for the same prize.

The MA thing has nothing to do with this. It has to do with what you brought up about offering discounts to fill overlay, but that isn’t what anyone else is talking about. The thread is about whether DK should offer some of its players free tickets as a form of rakeback. Totally different

To be clear, the offer is spend $7500 to get $300 back. DK is giving the $300 back in the form of a ticket to ensure the money stays on the site.

If you are opposed to tickets being used for rake-back then by definition you are opposed to any rake-back whatsoever. Is that really the position people are taking here? “I don’t want high-volume guys to get rake-back because they keep beating me.”

Also DK just slashed all the high volume players value of FPP points when they re-did the FPP program and refer-a-friend, I’m simply viewing this as a different way to get back what I’m losing in FPP’s

not opposed to rakeback. just pointing out your analogies don’t make sense in this context :)

actually this works. just last week i got nba and nfl for free next year by calling and saying pretty much exactly that.

I’m just trying to understand what people’s complaint is.

1.) If DK introduced a rake-back program that was spend $7500 get $300 back in cash, would that be ok?
2.) If DK introduced a monthly freeroll for those who spend $7500 they get a $300 entry, is that ok?

The complaint here seems to be, “they are getting something that I have to pay for” while ignoring that what they are getting is their own rake back. If DK just paid the rewards in cash some of these players would still use them to enter the GPPs that you are paying for.

it is pretty common for big players to get perks that is why they have a person in the employment structure to handle the large players. Sort of like platinum at a casino or bar. Take care of the big spenders. Its life man up cupcakes

The people getting this promo ( me included ) spend plenty of money on the site and more than deserve a few free tickets, and most likely the people recieving this email were going to have 5 entries in that huge tournament anyway
