I sent an e-mail to support expressing my dissapointment. Everyone else should do the same as the more outcry they get the more likely they’ll pause and think.

I’ll email as well, but nobody placing any bets I is what will change their minds. I certainly won’t at those ridiculous payouts.

So, I think I’ve narrowed down my player pool to run my first 150. Question for people that mme 150: I have my player pool at 50 right now. Is that around the sweet spot? Too many/few? Thanks for the advice!

One of the stats focused free fantasy sites had a short piece on this last year. I think there’s a very wide range across mass multi players with an avg of 40-50. As the others have indicated it’s a bit of a trade off. Small pool and you have better chance of hitting bit when do well, but reverse is also true (can completely blank for a week). Larger pool and more likely to hit at least a few times but it can be death by 1000 cuts if you’re always just min cashing 10-20% of your lineups. The old pros always talked about the proper strategy as being the former (tight pool) which never made any math sense to me as truly advantageous.. In fact, last few times I checked, Awesemo (who was an original advocate of the tight pool) was now spreading it out considerably.

I like what BIF and others said, but also consider that this event only has 132 players, which should tighten your core. I play 150 lineups most weeks, and I start getting nervous when I’m over about 35 players. I usually only go higher if the lineup builder is telling me it can’t create 150 within the limitations I set (which is always hard to believe), and at that point, I’m really only adding punts at 5% or less to fill in some holes needed to get the percentages elsewhere. You can’t always just say “oh, I’ll just increase this guy here from 30 to 35, this one from 25 to 30,” etc. to get to 150 because their price might be making it impossible for that to happen. So, anyways….lots of variables go into what’s even possible or not, but yes, I’d say a pool of 50 for an event with 132 is a little high.

I made a quarter lineup last week in one of the smaller jukebox contests that come out when the big one fills, based on his picks (Sucher, Tiger, and Sneds) and I took 2nd place for like $28 I think. I also had Leishman, Wolff, and Palmer. The only reason I got knocked out of 1st was the late eagle by Cam Champ that put the 2nd place guy ahead of me. It was also a 20-max and that was my only entry. So, anyhow, I’m glad I saw his post on Twitter for that one lineup at least!

  • BigRay

So what is the thought on Rahm this week? Does he pull a Rickie from last year and win this thing? I like Rahm a lot. My only problem as evidenced last week, is that he can’t close out a tourney. His dying on Sunday has hurt me in the past and I was of him until last week. oh the heartache of watching him start bogey, double bogey on Sunday. I don’t know if my heart can handle that again. That said, I really like his chance this week but being the highest price guy makes him tough to load up on.
