UPDATED at 8:15 Eastern
UPDATE: ATL will start late, but looks better by 9:30 or so. Yes, there’s still some PPD risk, but if they are patient (and they should be), this game will play fine. That means hitters are more than likely OK (Harper), and pitchers should be decent too, since it’s a late start and not a mid-game delay. Keep in mind I don’t make that call, so I can’t promise they don’t throw in the towel early, but if they wait long enough, they can play later tonight. I have it at YELLOW / ORANGE. now.
In STL it’s scattered storms, likely increasing through the night. This makes a mid-game delay more likely, and maybe more risky for SP. I’m going YELLOW ORANGE as storms are increasing now
Both games carry risk, though they are nearly mirror opposites of eachother.
A whole bunch of games with VERY slim rain chances, then 2 games where legit impacts could be felt. I’ll start with a list of games with the low rain chances, then move to the ugly stuff:
MIL @ PHI – Isolated rain. GREEN
NYY @ LAA – Isolated rain. GREEN
TEX @ BAL – Isolated rain. GREEN
CHC @ NYM – Isolated rain. GREEN In all 4 of these games, I can’t fully rule out a delay, but the probability of seeing one is very low, as both the coverage and the intensity of rain is unimpressive.
WASH @ ATL – This got ugly quick. Storms are about to arrive in ATL now, and there is an impressive amount of rain/lightning still upstream. Eventually this will clear, and we could play baseball later tonight, but it could be a long wait. YELLOW / ORANGE.
UPDATE TO ATL – Storms are moving pretty rapidly, which is a good sign. Might soon switch this to YELLOW / ORANGE.
CWS @ STL – This one was supposed to be the uglier of the two games, but based on current radar, I’m going to have to switch that up. While ATL is a solid mass of rain, STL is surprisingly spotty. A delay or late start is possible here, but unless I see convection start firing up in the next hour, this game looks safe to play. I’m sticking with YELLOW here for the delay or late start potential, but it’s hard to say which of those is more likely when the game is still 2+ hours out. I’ll just say that the coverage is not too impressive.
MIL @ PHI – 10-15mph wind blowing out right-center, bump to hitters!
That’s all I’ve got for today, stay in the loop on twitter (@KevinRothWx), and check back here for any color updates.
Please keep in mind it’s just a forecast, things can (and will) change.
