Hello Everyone. I started DFS sports this NBA and NFL season. it started with doing soccer with buddies and realized that I should probably do NBA since I’m a huge fan of every team pretty much and absolutely obsessed with the sport.
I think I will be a DFSer for life.

So my question is: What the best way to built a bankroll?

I’ve lost about $400 since the nba started. pretty much broke even with nfl so far on draft kings but I actually killed my buddies in 4 man nfl sunday tourneys. thanks to rotogrinders podcasts.

I definitely thought I’d do a lot better in basketball, since I know the most about and have been a loyal fan of the NBA since 98. But its been frustrating!! Not sure what I need to do so I’m reaching out to the community for help.

if you’re from around metro Detroit I’ll buy you a drink for your tips :)

So I’m looking to possibly learning a discipline strategy that works. Please advise what works based on what you have personally done to grow bankroll, and win on a consistent basis.

thank you so much for reading this and please help with your advise.

    thanks,

    Gino

prob only 5% of people in here “effectively build a bankroll” and there is a 99% chance they wont tell you how! but as was said earlier, winning more than losing is the way to go

Finish twice in T100 in first $3-$5 NFL Gpps.

The best way is playing on smaller sites, especially if you can find ones with overlay. The smaller fields allow you to have more consistent results.

I would advise staying away from the really large GPP tournaments. Granted I am not on a great NBA run at the moment but from my experience sticking to smaller tournaments is easier to build up.

I can also advise against going to a bunch of Phish shows over New Years and then spending a ton of money on NBA GPP tournaments on New Years Day. Learned that the hard way.

  • SnowShark

used to be cash games but you might be 2 years to late. market has become very efficient. my best guess is GPP’s but tough to do with limited bank roll. Good Luck!

This is good advice. I’ve won a couple hundred in the smaller FD tournaments, also won $500 in a smaller $4 GPP on DK this year.

    Don’t play NBA.
Sorry if that’s not very helpful, and it’s me being salty, but there’s truth behind it.

I’v been playing for years and NBA had been my most consistently profitable sport…This year I’ve lost 75% of my bankroll since the season started and I finally made myself stop.
As a smaller stakes single lineup player I couldn’t figure it out and I couldn’t find the upside….between the crappy payout structures, increasing take, optimimizers/payed lu’s, you have to be perfect to min cash…or even when in cash…and you’re lucky now if min cash is x2…you have to finish ungodly high to make much more than that. So I had to stop.

i go bust about every other day…but build enough up on the inbetween days to keep going. GPP only so higher risk but more fun

Play conservative with your bankroll and dont ever tilt. Keep composure and trade sleep for research. You are competing against other people remember that so researching more is the key to having an advantage over other people. Thats really about it have more knowledge about the slate than everyone else and you see results.

Smaller GPP’s is the way to go. Solid lineups (even somewhat chalky), over time, will prevail. I mainly play the $1 GPP on Yahoo and max enter it 10 times. First place is usually somewhere between $400-$500, so still plenty of upside. Yahoo has really tight pricing (ex. Westbrook or Harden tonight would take up ~30% of your salary), so if you can make some sharp picks on low owned, and cheap, guys, it definitely can give you a huge advantage. Good luck!

I would suggest doing a majority of the the money you spend per night on 50/50 like 60% per night

Don’t even start. Chances are you will not be very profitable by year’s end.

I’d also say stop playing NBA. If you must try starting max entries(50) in the quarter arcade on dk ($12.50). See how you do over a week or so plus it’s fun and losing $12.50 a day for a week is not going to kill you, assuming you can afford to lose it.

Play 50/50s only first, then start playing the small single entry tourneys and be patient. After a year or two if you are diligent, play small and consistent $ and do loads of research it will start to pay off.

Can anyone please tell me what pp means next to players names it’s not in the glossary of terms??

  • Heggybhoy82

Go big or go home, for $3 it’s worth a shot I want to win $1000 haha

  • Heggybhoy82

I won first couple of shots and thought this is easy, how wrong was i.

The most efficient way is to build a foundation and processs that works for you. Your question is very broad and what works for you may not work for another.

A week? Try a whole season and even then he would not truly know if he’s a winning player.

A few basic tips I often give are:

    1) “Never withdrawal”. You can keep the money in PayPal if you’re more comfortable not having it all on the sites, but in general make sure to treat it as a separate fund, not an extension of your checking account.
    2) Simple one, but only have 3-10% of your bankroll in play a night. – That will force you into the right buy-in sizes and contests for you.
    3) Pay attention to rake. This helps.
    4) Make sure you truly understand variance, and how that effects what game types you should be playing.
