I’ve been playing DFS for about 3 years, and to this day I have yet to win a GPP of any level. I have come mind numbingly close at times, but can’t finish the deal.

Recently I decided to try and get away from playing MLB due to the extreme variance it displays so I decided to try my hand at MLS for the first time ever last night. I decided to enter a $1 Triple-Up because it offers a decent payout, while also paying a good percentage of winners which I thought would be good for a first time run at the sport. As it turns out, I ended up scoring 145.25 points and scoring over 20 more points than the next highest lineup in the contest. When looking at other MLS leagues for the night, I have yet to come across one that had a score as high as mine. In short, there is a really good chance that I missed out on winning my first ever GPP, because I didn’t enter one.

MLS contests aren’t all that large, and the potential winnings wouldn’t have been huge by any stretch, but it would have been nice to finally get that 1st place victory.

So while last night wasn’t a bad beat, or even a bad night, as of now it currently ranks right up there near the top as one of my most frustrating individual nights in DFS simply because I missed out on achieving one of my long lasting DFS goals.

With nothing much going on in sports today, I’d love to hear some others share in the misery and disappointment that DFS can cause and share some of your most frustrating DFS moments.

This happened about a month or so ago.

I have the exact same routine everyday. I create 2 lineups, one for cash and one for GPP’s. I always enter my cash lineup into one or two single entry GPP’s just in case it hits. I then enter 10 or so into the squeeze or the rally.

Well, it’s a night of the super rally. To make a long story short, I accidentally put my cash lineup into the super rally and my intended Colorado stack into all my cash games. My first thought at lineup lock was, oh crap, I’m going to lose all my cash games!

As it turns out, Colorado scores 17 runs and my stack goes completely nuts. I kill my cash games, win my single entry GPP for $750. However, if I don’t make that mistake and enter THAT lineup into the Super Rally, I ship it and win $50,000. That Colorado stack that night was the highest scoring lineup in any GPP, and I only used it in cash games and a single entry.

Yep, clicking the wrong button in a rush before lock cost me around $48,000. I’ll never forget that night, I remember Stevieptfl saying something along the lines of, “Oh shit, Bill would be winning the Super Rally”.

    ^ Ouch.

I lost a PB mansion seat to a sunday night football 4th qtr Blair Walsh field goal. The guy who passed me had a 3-team train in a live final qualifier that only awarded a seat to 1st. Pretty sure he wasn’t aware of the contest he entered.

Also, a few years ago would have won a CFB gpp with my cash lineup but didn’t enter it into any tournaments.

Mine probably just involves a late scratch coupled with DK getting my location wrong, preventing me from making changes. I’m sure that’s happened at least once.

Being in 2nd with $15,000 in a PGA GPP eventually dropping to 221st for $50 on a $3 entry when all was said and done.

Went from 1st to 2nd in the Rally a couple of weeks ago when Wil Myers hit an RBI double in the top of the 9th in Bal when I think the 6-7-8 guys were due up. Thanks, Chipotle.

Then, in the bottom of the inning, went to 3rd by two points, where I finished, on an infield RBI single with 2 outs to Pedro Alvarez. Thanks, ehafner.

Between the Rally and Squeeze, went down $1500 on that weird inning. Best shot I’ve had to win a GPP so far.

That sucks, very similar to another frustrating day I had.

Week 1 of the NFL last year I was in their massive $3 GPP. At the end of the Sunday night game I was in 10th set to win about $10,000. Then the two MNF games played and I ended up winning around $60. I’ll never forget that feeling of being so close, yet so far away.

The night of the Odell Beckham catch on Sunday Night against Dallas, I had OBJ and took the lead in a $5 5700 man GPP. I held the lead until about midway through the 4th quarter, where a Romo to Dez TD knocked me out of first. I ended up 2nd for $1500 but that TD cost me a grand.

Late last July i had weathered the storm all night of not having any Yankees in a game they scored 20+ runs against the Rangers and the Yankees were chalk. I didn’t have a single Yankee in my lineup, but despite this I held a comfortable lead in the Super Monster with the Mariners game the last game of the night in the bottom of the 9th. Wouldn’t you know the 2nd place guy had Nelson Cruz and was behind me by 13.75.. Well, Cruz hit one to Tacoma of course, and i settled for 2nd and $50,000 instead of $100,000 it was the weirdest most bittersweet feeling I have ever felt..

Three years ago (maybe four?) I was relatively new to DFS. I entered the $300K Bomb (The biggest $25 GPP they had). Right before lock I was making last-second decisions. I’m an Eagles fan and I noticed I had Dan Bailey of the hated Cowboys at Kicker. He happened to be the same price as Alex Henery of the Eagles. I was like, “why don’t I just play the kicker from my favorite team since I have no Eagles?”

Well, Bailey ends up kicking 6 field goals that day while Alex Henery finished with just one extra point.

Not only did I suffer through the Eagles losing to Washington but the difference in points put me in 14th for $750 instead of a tie for second for $10,000.

My Eagles fandom and hatred for the Cowboys cost me $9,250 but I definitely deserved it for picking based on emotion.

My wife was in second place at $1.5 million heading upward in the FanDuel World Football Championship in December when her RB Rawls from Seattle broke his ankle in the 1st quarter. Seattle went to a passing game and she was passed by teams with the Seattle QB and WRs. She finished 6th winning $300K but was down since she was so close to winning $3 million.
    I was disappointed for her.

      2017 FanDuel WFBBC Finalist

Week 1 of the 2016 NFL season I was in top 5 in 3 large GPPs ($5 rush, $2 snap and the $2 WFFBC qualifier) about midway through the 3rd quarter of the 1st MNF game with a Matt Ryan Jones”:/players/julio-jones-12896 stack. Julio didn’t catch another pass that wasn’t called back for offensive pass interference and Matt Ryan threw an interception on a route where he underthrew Devonta Freeman (before he was DEVONTA FREEMAN) who would have had a clear TD.

    Ended up 6th ($5 rush), 3rd ($2 snap) and 2nd ($2 WFFBC qualifier).

I don’t think I’ve ever yelled at the TV that much in my life. So that was frustrating.

But the feeling of winning that much on football was awesome – so no sour grapes here.

Last year on a Friday night I was winning the $27 MLB GPP on DK (20K to 1st) from pretty much 9 pm on. About 1:30 am there wasn’t anybody within 25-30 points of with me with players left. There was only one game left and it was in the bottom of the 8th (Padres vs Rockies in San Diego) and the Padres were winning something like 7-3.

I remembered thinking even if the Padres scored a few runs I’d be OK because that wouldn’t be enough for anyone to pass me and on the plus side I had Nolan Arenado in my lineup who was due up 2nd in the top of the 9th. Basically, as long as nothing crazy happened I had it in the bag.

Naturally, the Padres scored 8 runs in the bottom of the 8th with the help of the Rockies making 2-3 errors to keep the inning going. I end up getting passed by one of the big DFS pros by 2 points for first. He also had a lineup come in 3rd or 4th and another 8th or 9th all with the Padres stacked. To put the icing on the cake I still had the slightest bit of hope because Arenado was due up second and he had already hit a bomb that night. All I needed was a walk to tie or any hit to retake 1st. Someone ended up pinch hitting for Arenado due to it being a blowout. Maddest I’ve ever been to win 12k.

    Top 3 –

    1) I got 6th in a $25 Yahoo NFL GPP with 1.2 points from Dez Bryant (had a TD pass go through his hands, then limped around for the rest of the game). If you’re hurt, just don’t play…

    2) Winning all GPPs in EPL 2 years ago – only way I can lose is if Aguero scores two goals in a half (you can guess what happens). 2 weeks or so later I roster Aguero on 80% of teams and he pulls a hamstring in the 1st 10 minutes.

    3) Some random NBA slate 2 seasons ago – I fade James Harden and he is like 40% owned. Rockets get up by 20+ and he is taken out in the middle of the 4th quarter after a mediocre game (30 FPS or so). I have 3 players remaining (Marc Gasol, Chandler Parsons, and someone else) and am in the top 20 of big tournaments (and top 1-5 of smaller stuff) with way more time remaining than anyone else. The Rockets bench blows their lead, Harden comes back in and scores 20+ FPS in about 4 minutes, my 3 guys combine for -.5 in the 4th quarter of their games. Went from lock big win, likely huge win to not even cashing in some contests.

    1) Winning the Moonshot the night of Arrieta’s NH… only to finish 2nd… oh wait 13th due to two lineups passing me but one was a train.

    2) Entering the final round of the US Open with my lineup in the top 50 of the MM only to see my golfers shoot something crazy (like a combined 35 over par) and I just min cash

    3) Winning two tickets to the $1,000 Q to the 2015 MLB live final, entering the Q and losing the seat thanks to Goldschmidt late home run

    Special category:
Winning four tickets to Gwen Stefani MLB All Star Concert (thanks for the invite DK) but being unable to use it as DK never delivered them but emailed me 4 hours before the show to go pick them up at the front desk of a downtown hotel (would have been nice to be able to gift some to clients or friends… wife doesn’t like to do things short notice or half-ass… so… someone else enjoyed them and I got zilch)

I’m fortunate I have never had anything this frustrating happen.

@bhdevault: How did you cope with that one? That’s particularly rough. Did you consider quitting DFS and/or rethinking your cash/GPP two-lineups strategy? I mean, there must be numerous nights when your cash lineup does much worse. That’s just the nature of baseball.

I just whined and complained about it for a few days. :)

Honestly though, it still hasn’t stopped bothering me, but I have had a very good first half of MLB, so I can’t complain.

I’ll throw a second moment on here. It was the first full Sunday of the MLB slate last year, and I had a season-long draft that I had to go to. It’s an auction draft that started right at noon CST, and would last 5-6 hours. I had to travel about an hour and a half to get there after doing my radio show (Shameless plug). I wasn’t going to play, but in order to be somewhat knowledgeable on what to talk about on the radio show, I throw a $1 single entry lineup onto Fanduel, so I at least know the players and pitchers for the day. Sure enough, my Tigers stack against T.J. House and Tyson Ross pitching performance gets me the win for $700. Had I played in my normal $2 and $5 games, I would have won an extra $2,000-3,000.

The freshest one in my mind has to be in the fanduel Mlb world championship qualifier this year. I think it was the 2nd or 3rd one. I was sitting in 1st and 3rd with a comfortable 1st place lead with all the games completed except the stupid Minnesota game which had gone into extra innings. The good part was my 3rd place team had 3 players from that game still going. The bad, the guy in 2nd owned Brian Dozier. Of course, Dozier hits a walk off homerun in the bottom of the 11th to beat me. I hate him and will never roster him again. Lol

Man I thought I had bad luck but 50k takes the cake. My worst was last season when I was still learning the ropes of dfs. I had gone on a losing streak and I was down to my last 5$ in my Dk account. I decided not to re deposit that night and I entered five or six lineup’s into the quart arcade on Dk. I ended up stacking the Dodgers a few different ways and had Joc pederson in all of them. It was right as he was starting to get hot and the Dodgers were at coors field. I believe i faded King Felix and went with Jaime Garcia and and Thor vs the Padres who was not nearly as popular as he is now. I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure those were the guys I had and all were fairly low owned. Anyway I ended up taking first in the quarter arcade for 250$ which was nice. But had I just deposited more money in my account and played in the moonshot I would have took 2nd place for 7.5k that night. And that’s not the last time it happened to me. When the playoffs started I decided to play in the solo shot and not the moonshot because I don’t like slates with less then 5 games and also stretching over 2 days. And of course at the end of the second day I had kendrey morales who was very low owned and he hit two bombs which got me first place in the solo shot for 300$ I believe it was. Again I would have took 2nd in the moonshot this time for 2k. I’ve had a number of other bad beats were I would have won thousands on fan duel had my pitchers team not blown his win.

Week 2 of the NFL last year I got 51st in the Millionaire Maker, had Steve Smith and Joe Flacco vs the Raiders and had Amari Cooper on the Raiders, tie game in the 4th quarter with a few minutes left Steve Smith catches a would be TD pass on 3rd & goal, play gets reviewed for a few minutes, but he did not get his toe down by a few inches. Ravens kick a FG and the Raiders score a TD to win the game by 4. Steve Smith catches that and not only do I get those points, but I still have a chance for OT with two WRs and a QB left. I had that lineup in about 5 other contests and that toe drag cost me about 100k
