I’ve been playing DFS for about 3 years, and to this day I have yet to win a GPP of any level. I have come mind numbingly close at times, but can’t finish the deal.

Recently I decided to try and get away from playing MLB due to the extreme variance it displays so I decided to try my hand at MLS for the first time ever last night. I decided to enter a $1 Triple-Up because it offers a decent payout, while also paying a good percentage of winners which I thought would be good for a first time run at the sport. As it turns out, I ended up scoring 145.25 points and scoring over 20 more points than the next highest lineup in the contest. When looking at other MLS leagues for the night, I have yet to come across one that had a score as high as mine. In short, there is a really good chance that I missed out on winning my first ever GPP, because I didn’t enter one.

MLS contests aren’t all that large, and the potential winnings wouldn’t have been huge by any stretch, but it would have been nice to finally get that 1st place victory.

So while last night wasn’t a bad beat, or even a bad night, as of now it currently ranks right up there near the top as one of my most frustrating individual nights in DFS simply because I missed out on achieving one of my long lasting DFS goals.

With nothing much going on in sports today, I’d love to hear some others share in the misery and disappointment that DFS can cause and share some of your most frustrating DFS moments.

Was rushing to finish up my fanduel lineups because a show I was on ran late and I had a lineup I loved and just needed a catcher +1. McCann was my favorite catcher that night but I was rushing and saw Posey fit so I just put in Posey and didn’t realize/forgot that McCann was actually cheaper so I could have used him. Ended up being about a $70,000 difference and costing me a 2nd Playboy seat.

At the College Football Live Fanduel Final I was 1st and 2nd for 150k going into the last game of Mississippi State and Arkansas… Naturally Dak Prescott went off for 500 yards, 5 passing TD’s as well as 2 rushing touchdowns to move me down to 5th and 12th. Still took home 27k but won’t forget that game for awhile. Congrats to DC on winning the thing tho :P

Won 6 tickets to the big hockey event of 2014, which was a $100 buying directly, had roughly $75 invested so last second I swap out Jimmy Howard in 3/6 lineups on a night Detroit is hosting ottawa. Swap for the Ottawa goalie on the night the red wings win 6-0. Still cashed 4 lineups for $1100 but my best lineup had been worth $12,000 if my phone dies and I don’t swap last minute

In Jan I was winning the 3-dollar NBA GPP for 25k. Kings vs Lakers was last game of day and I had Kobe and Cousins. I noticed my lineup creeping up and started checking all the teams ahead of me, no one has more than one player in that game. By halftime I’m in first and pulling away. I think it’s a lock. Game turns into a blowout and none of the starters play the 4th and I end up finished 22nd for 500.

5 dollar NFL GPP last year, just the SNF and MNF games. I literally flipped a coin for my flex spot between McFadden and Beasley. Beasley goes off, and if I had picked him I would’ve finish first for 50k.

Few weeks ago a game-tying solo HR with 2 outs in the 9th cost my SP the win and about 12k in winnings.

I hate the stupid win for pitchers being worth so much. They need to change the points for the win to a quality start. I’ve lost many thousands because of a team blowing my pitchers win in the late innings.

Easy, Me going with Steph Curry over John Wall on X-Mas 2014 was the difference between $2.5k and $30k.

Of course, Dozier hits a walk off homerun in the bottom of the 11th to beat me. I hate him and will never roster him again. Lol

No, no, no. If you want to be a great DFS player, you should know that rostering him would have ensured that he didn’t get the home run. That’s just science.

I’ve been pretty good with my DFS so far. No real major letdowns for an extended period of time.

I’d say that my biggest was missing a single night of NBA this past season because I couldn’t get a lineup in one dayy when I was back home in NYS. I was really trying to get the entire season, but alas… it was not to be.

my most recent infuriating moment, in a long line of infuriating moments, was only setting 20% of my golf lineups for the British Open using late thurs/early friday tee times.

I actually stacked 5 guys (plus Rory or Reed) on quite a few LU’s from Late/Early trying to play the weather – only problem was that 80% of those lineups had Joost Luiten, Paul Casey, or Callum Shinkwin. Whoops…

This happened about a month or so ago.

I have the exact same routine everyday. I create 2 lineups, one for cash and one for GPP’s. I always enter my cash lineup into one or two single entry GPP’s just in case it hits. I then enter 10 or so into the squeeze or the rally.

Well, it’s a night of the super rally. To make a long story short, I accidentally put my cash lineup into the super rally and my intended Colorado stack into all my cash games. My first thought at lineup lock was, oh crap, I’m going to lose all my cash games!

As it turns out, Colorado scores 17 runs and my stack goes completely nuts. I kill my cash games, win my single entry GPP for $750. However, if I don’t make that mistake and enter THAT lineup into the Super Rally, I ship it and win $50,000. That Colorado stack that night was the highest scoring lineup in any GPP, and I only used it in cash games and a single entry.

Yep, clicking the wrong button in a rush before lock cost me around $48,000. I’ll never forget that night, I remember Stevieptfl saying something along the lines of, “Oh shit, Bill would be winning the Super Rally”.

I can’t beat that —- I’ve always found it best once in the GPP lead if your skilled enough to be there @ the end; and it’s nearing final games last chances……..go find the team with Jake Peavy awaiting 12 point win in the STOLEN BASE and watch 9 bills go to 6 bills and runner-up finish after u get passed b/c well it was the Phillies…..they gave me hope….lost 5-4

And the real pisser, b/c that’s one of my better GPP hits..doesn’t even count b/c of the BS stats-feeds records getting pulled. The SB that day was $9,000 and thus not counted toward anything but an ego crusher.

    6/24/16 = SOYSAUCE6 takes JakeP 39 and I got KMax 33 — pitching….can I get a DFS slate with just HITTERS?

    P Jake Peavy

Went from 1st to 2nd in the Rally a couple of weeks ago when Wil Myers hit an RBI double in the top of the 9th in Bal when I think the 6-7-8 guys were due up. Thanks, Chipotle.

Then, in the bottom of the inning, went to 3rd by two points, where I finished, on an infield RBI single with 2 outs to Pedro Alvarez. Thanks, ehafner.

Between the Rally and Squeeze, went down $1500 on that weird inning. Best shot I’ve had to win a GPP so far.

You keep your head up kid, that big win is coming on down home to Benny.

  • bighop04

I usually just make 1 lineup and put it in everything I do for the day. One random day in NBA last year when everyone was talking about GPP and cash lineups so much, I made a GPP lineup and didn’t enter my cash lineups in it. My cash lineup that I enter every single day in GPPs, would have been at the top of every contest, instead I won my cash games and got nothing in GPP. I missed out on a few grand that night, it was a rough lesson.

  • badlands92

Thank you everyone for your stories – this is therapeutic! For all the losing I’ve done, and the many nights where I’ve vowed to never play again (about three weeks sober from MLB, thank you very much!), I’ve never had moments like these mentioned.

Sure, I’ve flipped a coin and had the guy I didn’t choose outscore the one I did by a wide margin, but it never seemed to be when I was in line to win big money. Most of my frustration comes from nights I go big and bomb. I can’t tell you how many nights I’ve turned $10 into $21 (not big winnings but follow the logic), but anytime I scatter $30-50 across a few different GPPs and a handful of cash games, I walk away with $4 winnings.

Mutliple export issues, the most recent one below

Fantasy Aces survivor day 3 about a month and a half ago. For some reason the survivor slate was missing a game the main slate had. I got home late from work, finished my lineup 30 seconds before lock. Export to all my games, only to find it didn’t export to the Survivor because of the difference. I came in 2nd in one of the GPP’s there and my lineup which would have worked in the survivor would have won.

Last seasons chop block $50 championship on DK. Had a Bortles lineup vs NO, with Hightower / Deangelo at RB. For some stupid ass reason, I had Antonio Brown ( obviously super chalk) in that same lineup instead of stacking A-Rob with Bortles. I wound up in 48th place for $1000…..If I play A-Rob instead of Brown ( which I should have) I take it down for $150,000.

  • walkoff9

Last NBA season i was chasing tickets to one of the big tournaments they were running on DK, like the $300 gpp on steroids that they would run every so often. In winner take all satellites i came in 2nd one night and 3rd the next night.

Although when the total loss is $6, how mad can i really be.

  • depalma13

Changing Martavious Bryant and the Dolphins Defense at the last minute before lock and than not winning a half a million dollars.

Had I not changed the lineup, I would have won by 6 points and with it, a half a million dollars.

  • dirtydistance

Well last night I played a lineup that took 8th in the summer free qualifier on fd, would have placed high anywhere, but only used it in cash as I was experimenting with different lineups to see why I’ve been struggling to cash lately and naturally this happens..

  • CJtheGrump

I have a new one – Louis Oosthuizen. +10 on the back 9 to take him from making the cut to “why did I even show up?”. He was a risky play but it looked like it wasn’t going to kill my weekend until then.

  • qutgnt25

Using a Dallas Stars stack the night the mets were in playoffs. Was so excited to watch game I missed the late goal tender change from lehtonen to niemi. Put up a zero for goalie. Still win a couple hundred bucks but would have won 12k if the mets weren’t in playoffs.
