No one can say there is any skill in picking kickers or Defensive teams in football. Sure there are a few metrics you can look at, but its still a shot in the dark. Gonna try out Star street for the first time next week.

Hmmm. Let’s see game indoors (no need to worry about weatherone dimensional offense (AP), going up against a pretty decent DEF ( pretty good in the redzone). What other information do you need !!!! . No need to say its LUCK involved. Look athe OBVIOUS !!!! If you don’t like the set up on these sites don’t play them.

The constant complaining about this is getting kind of old. While I could care less about whether the kicker position exists or not, it’s not necessary to post about this topic every single week.

There are factors that you can use to support a DEF/K pick like greg323 said, but I agree that those 2 positions are weighted more towards luck than skill.

Wow what a ridiculous statement. So by that logic the top 5 kickers today should have been. Rian Lindell, Adam Vinatieri, L. Tynes, Blair Walsh and either kicker in the Dallas/Pitt game. All indoors vs good defensive teams. Yet only one of the six had 25 pts.

Like i said. There are a few metrics to look at but its still bingo for kickers and def. But you are 100% correct if i don’t like it i can take my money somewhere else. Thus I am gonna give Star street a shot next week…… If thats ok with you?

If you can narrow down your choices from 32 to say 10 or so wouldn’t you do it? You failed to mention the other kickers who were kicking indoors today… By the way Shayne Graham had a really good day too. All I’m stating if you can logically make a selection on some concrete factors why not use them ?

  • gregg323

Dear Starstreet, Please, please consider adding defenses and kickers to your football season next year, so this topic can go on forever…. Thanks

Ya and so did Janikowski playing outdoors…. Or players playing in Denver or if the wind is blowing in one direction yadda yadda yadda. There is just no way to predict with any sort of reasonable accuracy that a kicker will have a big day. Anyway its a silly issue and you are right if we don’t like it don’t play.

a kicker “going off” is generally less than 20 points, and most tied to semi-decent offenses will usually get you at least 8. i don’t see the huge problem with kickers; Defenses I can understand, but kickers just don’t really bother me that much.

but i’ve basically only played NBA since the season started, so I’m probably not the one to judge.

Dennis Pitta was mentioned as a sleeper in the daily plays this week, denver is horrible at defending tight ends

  • gregg323

Agreed there is no way to predict an outcome. And defenses and kickers shouldn’t be deciding who wins and who looses, but the information is out there to pick the team that has the most potential to have a monster game.

Do you really think that picking a defense is all about luck with no skill element? The fantasy defenses with the most talented players, who have the most favorable matchups on average tend to score the most points.

This is the case with any position in fantasy sports. Sure there will be times when certain defenses will significantly underachieve, or overachieve as the Saints did today. However, that’s the case with any position including TE’s when you draft guys named Dennis Pitta.

The kicker position has the most variance for sure, so I’m not completely opposed to not including one in fantasy formats. However even there, some kickers are more accurate, have stronger legs, play in better weather environments, play on teams with better offenses etc.

Also, if you think kicking is all about luck than choose the cheapest kicker every time, and you’ll save salary vs. other players that spend more on kickers, and you can gain an edge that way.

Having said all that, I realize that based on gameflow, you never know how many field goal attempts vs. extra point tries that a kicker will have in a given game. This makes me somewhat neutral as to whether or not kickers should be used in fantasy, but I would never eliminate the Defenses from fantasy rosters.

I’d guess less than 1% of entries had NO so I’d assume def didn’t not play a big role like last week. Heck I thought I was smart picking CLE with RG3 out. Top 10 D, first start for rookie QB, runs diff system than reg QB and all I got was a big fat 0.

Kicker was prob a bigger factor but Graham was a top 3 guy on most ranking boards this week so if you picked him you weren’t far behind Walsh.

Very well done on Pitta, wish I would have followed that advice!

  • MrWorldwide

We can’t ban kickers,(S.Graham my best player this week) it’s the only position I’m good at picking. lol Instead I say we ban Jamal Charles, who runs more like Ray Charles everytime I draft him. :)

If you don’t think you can predict kickers, then I offer a draft; I will pick ten kickers I want, then you pick the following ten and we see which group scores more points. If you think it is all luck, then you should win 50% of the time. I bet you don’t.

  • gregg323

Draftday should have a pick em for kickers. That would be awesome.
