In the case you’ve been living in your linen closet the last month, a contestant on the long-time game show Jeopardy! by the name of James Holzhauer has been tearing it up and is on an extraordinary pace to become the show’s all-time earner in record-breaking time.

Where this gets really interesting is in his background. Holzhauer is introduced before every game as a “Sports Gambler”. In the following article he notes his history in both fantasy sports as well as online poker:

So I was just wondering whether anyone recognizes the guy from either fantasy, gambling and/or online poker, and since playing fantasy sports is obviously now such a prerequisite to becoming a genius, is there any DFS player currently out there or even one from the past that you could see being a Jeopardy! champ or even the next James Holzhauer?

Saw this guy on another gameshow called the chase mby 6 months ago and he crushed it there as well. Been in poker for 10 years and never heard of him and no tournament cashes according to hendonmob (biggest poker database).

overwhelming majority of cash game players who didn’t play at $25/$50 or higher online are anonymous unless they really went out of their way to get attention

He is a two plus two member for a very long time and well known around that forum. There is a long thread there that you can find if you’d like. He has posted there hundreds of times.

    link is dead

great stuff, look forward to reading, haven’t been there in years, used to basically live at that site but these days can’t even remember which email I registered it with or what username I had :(

popped in a little every once in a while for some fresh drama from 2-3 years ago like the guy who still believed in the dream despite that poker made him homeless, truestoryteller and that fellow western mass degenerate who regaled us all with tale after tale of a wide range of topics from counterfeiting money to skanks… it was actually mostly skanks now that I think more about it

Haha yeah good times. That guy from Texas if were talking about the same person passed recently, name was Johnny Hughes. I liked his posts too. 2p2 is really an incredible bubble of society. I have been a poster and member there since 2001 and the amount of incredible genius people there that I’ve met and gotten to know is pretty amazing imo. I mean that site produced alex Jacob and james. You’re welcome jeopardy :)

Its filled with ivy leaguers, scientists, math geniuses, programming masters, etc. I wont say their names but 2 of the regular posters in one of the sub forums are world renowned physicists and another one that is a world famous philosopher. Back in the day pre black Friday it was even more amazing. But anyway. It’s a great place and it’s never too late to go and check it out.

Wasn’t thinking of Johnny Hughes, maybe around 2016-2017 there wasn’t much going on but two bloggers writing about their degen poker lives were pretty interesting reads – as I was already out of the game it was nice to read.

I also forgot that I was actively following the OTBredbaron thread as he spoke about his journey before everyone realized he was genuinely dominating the 6max game – dude was very open, we exchange a few pms before the thread blew up as people realized this guy writing about his journey to be a high stakes reg was now crushing the game. His inbox rather expectedly got a bit more cluttered after that I assume and he very justifiably was concerned about a hastings/townsend type move against him so rightfully got very paranoid.

Even before the thread blew up, he wouldn’t ever explain why he felt a certain way because he understood his only edge was that he viewed things differently but there were a number of hands of his were he just stacks off with a mid pocket pair preflop and when I asked him about those hands, he said that those were automatic. I’d never 5 bet shove 99 into a nit that was utg but it was hard to argue with the big picture results – despite these donation hands, the guy was pretty much owning these other pros – really made me realize that there was a whole other level to the game I couldn’t even see.

Same with the Colman thread, but he was a bit more established by the time I found that one. Has anything like that ever happened in DFS, where some low level reg who’d write about his favorite pitchers regularly eventually emerged as an end boss?

Yeah man, exploting those tiny edges and a little run good is the difference between the great ones and the break even rakeback grinders. I’m excited for wsop. I like dfs but it simply does not compare imo. I miss pre black Friday every day. I did win the bovada sunday 215 a few months back that was nice. But still isn’t the same
