not sure how many of you have been paying attention but the ‘all mighty’ ESPN has finally embraced DFS. For years it was a sacrilegious to even mention it.
Now they have Renee Miller writing on DFS multiple times a week.
Is she someone we are familiar with (was Condia a Neuroscience professor all along?)
So far she hasn’t written anything that she’d could have found on any major DFS site like this one. She was also on the Fantasy Focus podcast yesterday and didn’t knock my socks off.
Why did ESPN pick her and not one of the bigger fish out there?

    Ummm cant tell if serious??

The Yuke wants to know. Who in the Blue Hell is Ganondorf?

Seriously, I think this barro has just made some fans for Renee.

Or it could be one of those reverse psychology things where barro was Renee all along.

I love all of you, but goddamn if there isn’t a whole lot of stupid in this thread.

Maybe the tone of my OP was poor. I was just curious to where she came from. When I listened to the podcast I thought why would ESPN pick some random neuroscience prof to be their DFS guru. Would have made more sense for them to talk about all the thing Renee mentioned her post about the books and articles she’s writing.

    Ganondorf,
I have no idea who you are but I really wanted to know her back story. I haven’t been super active this yr in DFS but id love to compare DFS resumes with your sorry ass any day.

Have you had a chance to compare resumes yet? It should take far less time than it will take to remove your foot from your mouth…

They hired her to teach new players how to play DFS. She has a teaching background (being a professor), and has done intro’s to DFS for other sites. But as you said your tone in the original post was poor, so people (myself included) took it the wrong way. Good luck with your DFS endeavours.

I could care less about the dick measuring contest this thread turned into, but thanks for starting the thread anyways. With her response, as well as now reading up, she seems like a must read for DFS baseball. I love new stuff to read.

This. Her series of articles for first time players of dfs baseball have been excellent. I always enjoy her basketball value play articles as well. I highly recommend following her on twitter.

Renee is cool in my book – solid choice by ESPN not a regular on RG so I could see how you may have missed her work although she has been featured on rotoworld quite a bit and on a regular on fantasy insiders. I saw her mainly playing on draftday but not sure if that has changed – believe her user ID is her real name. give her props for that most jackasses use their initials and some random number

i am guilty of putting my foot in my mouth at times (as most are whether they are willing to admit it or not), but typically don’t garner the attention of the masses/reg grinders…

The “resume post” is actually the most entertaining troll job i have seen on this site for a LONG time.

    1) Post takes a turn for the worst
    2) Stand ground, attempt to defend yourself
    3) Backfires
    4) Set the trap and troll everyone jumping on the bandwagon and challenge (arguably) the best tourney player in DRAMATIC fashion
    5) Grab popcorn, giggle, and wait for the trap to work

I applaud you OP for successfully turning the tables in your favor. If you are actually serious…then you’re just BANANAS and i retract all text aforementioned.

Are you not entertained Gabey? This thread has it all. I think the top button has long been overlooked as a discussion point.

Renee Miller, PHD, I have always enjoyed reading your DFS thoughts as well as listening to you on the podcasts you have appeared on. Please keep up the good work and I will check out that podcast.

    Hi Renee!
Is there any chance you could clarify what you wrote in your espn article about Park Factors?
    You wrote “Park factors

There are a couple of ballparks where run totals significantly differ from league average in ways that you want to be aware of when deciding on teams and players to use in your DFS lineups. Everyone knows about the thin air of Coors Field, where run totals jump to 0.5 runs per game more than the league median. Arizona, Minnesota, St. Louis, and Boston, the next best parks, saw 0.1 run/game more than the median in 2014. On the other end of the spectrum, Seattle and San Diego allowed 0.125 fewer runs per game than the median.

I think that being aware of park factors is useful to an extent; the magnitude of the effect matters. I definitely prioritize hitters playing in Colorado, and tend to avoid all starting pitchers not named Clayton Kershaw there. But I think if you surveyed random fantasy baseball players, they would guess that the effect was on the order of 2-3 more runs per game rather than 0.5. Ditto for the infamous Petco Park in San Diego; avoiding all hitters there or using even bad starting pitchers there because of a 0.125-run-per game differential isn’t necessary, but people do it because the perceived effect is way bigger than that.”

My understanding was that park factors (whether from ESPN http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/parkfactor/_/year/2014 or fangraphs) is that the 1.5 in Runs for Coors for example means that there are 1.5 runs scored at Coors for every run scored at our hypothetical “neutral park”. Thus, run totals are not jumping by 0.5 runs per game, rather, they are jumping by nearly 50%, and Petco is suppressing runs by 17.5%. – So at Coors a game on average that is 4-3 would be 6-4.5 etc. (an increase of 3.5 runs, not 0.5). Am I misunderstanding the application of park factors or what you are writing?

    Thanks!

Anyone know which is correct? I interpreted it the other way as well.

    Thanks
