FD and DK now both have their NFL live final details out there. DK just posted today and it looks like both contests are the same weekend (Dec 14-16), but one is in Florida and the other in NYC. Unless something changes, this seems like a potential cluster f. Am I missing something here or perhaps read it wrong?

You have it correct. They’re the same weekend. One has a $2 million total prize pool, the other has a $10 million prize pool… so I don’t know if they’re really competing at this point anyway.

I can’t fully express how annoyed I am by this. DRAFT live final the same weekend as well and is essentially a must-attend. As somebody who really enjoys the live final experience, it’s extremely disappointing. Yes, Draftkings has a bigger prize pool, but the experience of both live finals are similar … and most of us who qualify for the live finals enjoy the live experience as much as the prize pool. Rather than try to qualify for all 3 live finals like I normally do, I’m likely going to stick to trying to qualify for one site’s live final as opposed to two or all three. It’s really disappointing.

Yep, you are right, they are the same week and during Week 15 of the NFL season. They did this intentionally I guess to avoid conflict with the holiday travel season where hotel rates and airfare rates go sky high after this week. It also makes it harder for contestants to travel too if they push it up any further. They want to make sure everyone is able to make it. Plus, they have families they want to spend the holidays with too.

  • bigez952

Week 15 is the best week to have a live final since it gives them the maximum amount of time to promote it and allow people to qualify. The last two weeks run into Christmas and can be crap shoots with teams starting to rest for the playoffs.

With only a 17 week season and week 15 being the best date to pick pretty much every year I am surprised they haven’t been the same date before.

Folks, just wanted to chime in here that our $500,000 NFL Championship with $100,000 to first place is an online championship. No attendance necessary. So feel free to compete in ours as well with nothing stopping you from going for our top prizes! With 50 seats, qualify up to 3 times. Who is going to take down that $100K?!?

They say imitation is the highest form of flattery – so consider us flattered. DrafKings announced our Fantasy Football World Championships Live Final on July 2nd in this tweet: https://twitter.com/DraftKings/status/1013784422162878464

To the best of our team’s knowledge, DraftKings was the first to announce their live final plans for Football. We wanted to give our players plenty of time to prepare for the warm weather of Miami in December, that is why we chose to announce our FFWC dates 2 months ago. We don’t know why they chose the same weekend, its out of our control. We do know that our prize pool will be 5x bigger, we are offering 2 MILLION to first vs their 500k, and it’s really cold in NYC in December ;-)

If that’s the case this seems like Fanduel’s loss. I would have thrown a bunch of money at both if Fanduel/Draft had their event Week 14 and Draftkings was Week 15. Now like jakz said I feel obligated to pick between them and will only play on Draftkings.

It goes without saying Week 16 was obviously out because of the Holidays but is Week 14 really so early that you’d rather have your site go head to head than pick it?

I guess the only plus side is this should deflate interest. I know some of the top Pros don’t care about the experience but 99% of people playing want to be a part of the live final experience. I see more overlay than normal in the qualifiers because of the shared date.

The DRAFT Live Finals are combined with the FD Live Finals, so don’t feel split between 3, you’re only split between 2, if you win an entry in our event you’re getting the entire FanDuel VIP Package as well…

There are 3 ways to get there: Qualify for our $250k Main Event or the $100k H2H Championship, or have the highest regular-season score in the Mega Best Ball Tourney. Every entry into the Mega will give you a chance to win the full VIP package. This includes:

Trip for two to NYC, including flights and three nights of hotel accommodations

Exclusive access to the Tailgate Party at the Meadowlands on 12/15

VIP invitation for two to the WFFC Live Final Viewing Party on 12/16

$100 in FanDuel Sportsbook bet credit for you and your guest

Entry into the $50K Single Game Championship & VIP tickets to the HOU vs NYJ game

Entry into the WFFC Fan Championship

So, can someone send a proxy for their entry into the Draft/FD live final?

Good question: No Proxys, Live Final, you gotta be there, we are Drafting, not just hanging out setting lineups

Thanks for the answer Nick. In that case, someone has to actually make a choice if they are fortunate enough to qualify for the DK and Draft live finals. Kind of silly to require 10 people to be there in person to do a live draft that takes like 10 minutes and conflicts with a much bigger event in a warmer climate, but I respect your process and product. Good luck with it all.

I would HOPE this would be an acceptable option. The point should be to have the person draft, but beyond that I don’t think they should be required to be there.

With Draft’s and DraftKings’thing, you have to actually show up. I read the terms and conditions and they didn’t say anything about a proxy. You could still collect the prize though if you don’t show up for the DraftKings one and with Draft, they take it away unless you have a legitimate reason for not going. For FanDuel, you can send one and if you don’t and you happen to come in 1st-3rd, they doc you 50% of your winnings.

Call me crazy but this might be the straw that makes people break up with FD. Having been to a live final through both sites, the choice is fairly simple for me. It is strange to me to draw a line in the sand for people who spend a lot of rake trying for a seat.

This seems reasonable, I haven’t confirmed but seems reasonable, just have to be there for the Draft.

Agreed, can’t imagine Sunday attendance is required.

This is terrible! Oh wait, it’s not, because I have never qualified for a live final and probably never will. I live in South Florida though, so, maybe I can either be someone’s proxy or stand outside with my nose pressed against the window watching all the cool people having all the fun…

I see DraftKings and FanDuel’s live finals are the same weekend again this year (2019). Can we get clarification on if you have to attend in person or can send a proxy?

I see DraftKings and FanDuel’s live finals are the same weekend again this year (2019). Can we get clarification on if you have to attend in person or can send a proxy?

180 Qualifiers will be lucky enough to attend the DraftKings Fantasy Football World Championships on December 15th. This year we are offering 10 Million in prizes, and paying 2 Million to the champion!

The $10 million guarantee is the biggest prize pool in all of daily fantasy sports!

The $2 million paid to 1st place is the biggest top prize in DFS!

To put things in perspective, Draftkings WWFC first place prize is 80% of FanDuel’s entire guarantee, and 4x larger than their 1st prize of $500k!

We won’t rest here… for the first time ever, every dollar entered into a qualifier goes directly into the guaranteed prizes. That’s right, DraftKings is covering the cost of the hotel and experience – it’s on us to help celebrate our 5th year of WWFC!

To answer your question, yes proxy attendees are permitted. A proxy is someone who is permitted to attend the live final for the celebration while the entrant places their contest remotely from a legally permitted location. That’s right, the qualifier must still enter the contest on their own. You may be asking yourself, why is that relevant to the topic? At this time, Puerto Rico is not a permitted jurisdiction, which means you cannot enter lineups into the DraftKings FFWC while attending the FanDuel live final that same weekend.
