Seriously every Slam, Shot, Rebound, Swat etc fills at least 30 minutes before lock. Sometimes they fill 3 or 4 hours before lock. This has been happening forever. Why are they so cowardly when it comes to pushing the envelope with their prize pools? What are they afraid of? That they’ll only rake 13.5% instead of 15%? This is one of a handful of reasons why Draft Kings is the GOAT and has been growing so fast over the past 2 years. They push prize pools and don’t give a fcuk about consequences.

This mindset works for the end-user in the short term but results horribly for the investor long-term. From the outside looking in, FanDuel is focused on longevity and is getting there by making calculated business decisions which may not be popular but are wise. DraftKings appears to be making more riskier moves that capture market share quickly but may be detrimental down the road.

From an investment perspective, I rather be on the ship that’s going to get there second by avoiding all the obstacles the first ship hit by speeding out ahead too quickly.

it’s their job to make money, and it’s your job to make money. Stop passing off blame.

You should try punching your tickets earlier in the day. You can always come back and cancel them if you change your mind.

Yes, and it’s been that way for 4+ years. Fanduel has hardly ever risked overlay. Their goal is to try to GUARANTEE maximum rake on every guaranteed prize pool. If that means sizing the contests too small, they will do that every time rather than even possibly risk sizing them too big. If a contest ever doesn’t fill, it almost always decreases in size the next time it is offered, and then takes forever to go back up even if it starts to fill again. As a player, it is incredibly frustrating, especially on College Sports where the prize pools are not huge to begin with.

the swat fills by 10am est every single day….seems conservative even for FD

if stuff is filling 30min before lock i think it is sized correctly, esp from FD’s perspective. that gives them max rake and minimal risk and hard to fault them for targeting that. if tournaments are filling 9hrs early (swat) you may have undersized it a bit

So How about the contests that fill after lock? Two nights ago I put in 10 entries into a mini shot and as the clock hit 0:00 there were 270/574 entries in…I sat there and watched the next 90 seconds as fanduel held it open and let it fill rather than accept the overlay. I will never put into a GPP last minute on fanduel again due to these shenanigans.

Is that not against their TOS to hold the game open til it fills?

heeeyyy they increased the swat!! now 75K instead of 40K wohoo

  • donkshow

Filling in the final hour, I see no issue with. If you’re filling mid-afternoon it is time to upsize the tournaments.

DK pushes prize pools? Maybe in Multi-Entry GPP’s, but DK is abysmal compared to FD on the Single Entry GPP’s…

    $1 Single Entry Prize Pools
    FD: $40,000
    DK: $20,000

    $2
    FD: $15,000

    $5
    FD: $12,000
    DK: $4,000

    $9
    DK: $5,000

    $10
    FD: $20,000

    $25
    FD: $20,000

    $27
    DK: $5,000

    $50
    FD: $10,000
    DK: $5,000

    Edit:
For $93 you can enter the above single entry contests at FD and have exposure to $117,000 in prize pools.
For $92 you can enter the above single entry contests at DK and have exposure to $39,000 in prize pools.
