Sorry if this has been asked already but is Fanduel having WNBA this year? I see its in the lobby under sports not currently in season.

Do I go Stars/Scrubs or balanced?? That’s the question

I think this is a great idea to help the WNBA. Im interested in learning more about them now. I wish Fanduel would update all the player photos to help visualize everything

I’ll bet anyone even money this doesn’t do one single thing for the WNBA ratings.

True, we just pick our lineups and don’t even pay attention to the game.

I’ve got a new Chrome extension available that shows FanDuel points per game (and per 36) on basketball-reference.com. These numbers will show up on the individual player and team pages (far right column labeled ‘FD’), and you can also see them for past boxscores (just like you can do for NBA).

You can install the extension here: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/rotogrinders-basketball-r/mklaikjfchdedoaemannepoofcpgbfbn

Also, one thing that I see as a benefit (at least for me) is the unfamiliarity. If I’m playing DFS sports I like, I have enough knowledge to decipher who is good and who isn’t. If some “expert”, like say Matthew Berry suggests taking Eddie Lacy, I would know not to take him. He’s the worst player in the NFL. But in a sport like Ice Dancing or Soccer, if someone suggests a play, I’ll just take them because I don’t know as much.

Previous knowledge might not pull you off a play. That’s how I see it.

Dont think thats true. I already plan on watching the games now that I have a lineup in. Pretty sure im not the only one that feels that way

I think this is actually a really cool thing. WNBA isn’t really that well watched and perhaps this can bring in some new viewers… at the very least, even if people are only watching because they want their players to do well, more people will follow along with the games and perhaps they will get some more actual fans out of it. Kind of a cool move, even if it isn’t for the intentions I’m stating (which it probably isn’t).

Thanks so much for this, this is extremely helpful.

Guys, Angel McCoughtry is out for rest

In fact, “McCoughtry is expected to sit out the 2017 season for rest, John Altavilla of the Hartford Courant reports.”

So the biggest tournament on FD has about 4K entries, realistically with multi entry there will be about 2K actual people entered.

If every one of those people watched the game it still wouldn’t move the needle.

People who belong to message boards tend to think they have more of an influence on something than they actually do because everyone else also has the same interest. It’s a common blunder.

  • sivad40

Most WNBA players play in foreign leagues year for 8-10 months out of year (getting paid more money than playing in the W), and some of them use part or all the WNBA season as a time to rest. Some players like Candice Parker is going to miss the first couple of games this season because the Turkish playoffs.

  • Lathum

From ESPN “The season opener between Minnesota and Phoenix, which was broadcasted on the ESPN network, delivered 505,000 viewers make that game the highest-rated, regular season game on that network.”

So if 5,000 WNBA DFS players watched ( not likely) it would be a 1% increase

I’ve actually watched WNBA in the past on a few occasions. It’s not a bad product at all as the basic strategy is pretty much the same as the NBA. You don’t see as many high flying slams, but the players are skilled. The NBA wasn’t always the sport it is today either. Up until the 80’s, the playoffs and finals were broadcast on tape delay. I don’t expect FD running WNBA contests to have an immediate impact, but any additional exposure is a good thing.

I agree with all of that, I’m rooting for the WNBA. As I said earlier in the thread, I am a Washington alum and huge Kelsey Plum fan.

I just find the premise that FD running WNBA contests is some major benefit to the WNBA laughable.

  • jokerswild22

WNBA on FanDuel is easily a major benefit to WNBA.

And talking about ratings in 2017 is laughable. WNBA has a league pass product that is likely to see an increase in subscriptions from fantasy players (I’ve got one).

  • pens4life

any articles or anything about the game by game breakdown?

Explain to me how what amounts to MAYBE a couple thousand people, a tiny fraction of which will actually consume the product, will make a difference?

Sounds like their Ice Dancing ratings before they ditched it.

Explain how it won’t and I’ll just tell you you’re wrong.

I hope DK adds it. Also interested in LPGA, Senior Tour, and Web.com tour for golf. And still waiting on tennis, though I know that’s difficult as a two week event.

So basically you don’t really have an argument. Solid way to go about a discussion. I referenced some numbers earlier in the thread why it won’t make a difference BTW.

So the FD contest filled sometime today. Guess there is enough interest.

There is still room for about 1500 more.
