Any chance we get contests on DK for the WBC? Seems like a slim chance since they have never done spring training games but we did get Olympic golf and basketball contests as well as the fact that they run preseason NBA and NFL contests. Can’t wait for baseball to be back!

Not Mexico’s offense. The location of the stadium. At about 2,000 meters (basically a mile) up in the air, the altitude is key. Coors Field-esque.

Shhhh!!!!! It’s actually worse than Coors because it’s dry/no humidity in Mexico (think Arizona), which also makes the ball go farther (techincally it’s because humidity makes the ball heavier and less elastic, but whatever), in addition to the elevation.

Again, don’t pimp Marquis so hard, mainly because of Team Israel pitcher usage. I’m not lying in that he’s the SP2 I’m rolling with, but I absolutely see if likely that he gets pulled under 50 pitches. Weinstein has clearly seen it as more important to rotate his pitchers to minimize batter familiarity than in “riding his ace.” He lets Marquis and Zeid get their innings, but rightfully works to keep em under a threshold where they’d be out too long.

The only counter to this I can think of is that instead of vs NED, team Israel’s 3rd game is against Japan. He might try and just leave it all on the field in games one and two (assuming Israel wins tonight) thinking that’s the best shot at advancing.

Did Israel add anyone other than Bill, I mean Brad Goldberg? Goldberg is certainly an able setup or co-closer.

  • harrytruman3

Ah, I see they added Jeremy Bleich too, a former first rd pick who is a fairly non descript lefty RP in the high minors. He’s also an extreme groundballer, who should be good in certain situations.

Puerto Rico/Mexico stack will win it imo

Venezuela is running so bad right now. Every bounce goes against them and every break goes the other way.

  • cinthree

Felix 14% and Quintana 8% owned. Just baffling.

  • Tristanhoh

Gotta feel for Venezuela. I had high hopes for this squad, hopefully they spark something magical.

Question for you guys: How long did it take for you guys to realize Jalisco was an extreme hitter’s park? Just wanted to gauge my research skills.

  • KindGuy

Venezuela finally gets on the board via Alcides RBI Single. 5-1 Italy lead.

I read a lot about sports – so when the Olympics comes around, there’s always one or two articles about how Mexico City’s olympics in 1968 saw like every single track and field record get obliterated because of the high altitude. And then I remember it was mentioned last year in the Texans football game played in Mexico as something that may make the kickers more valueable.

So when I saw the games were being played in a Mexico, I looked it up to see where it was being played and what the altitude was.

In the $27 tourney too there is somebody with Felix and another guy with Eduardo Rodriguez

I understand missing a play for one of the 2:00am PST games since they’re in the middle of the night, but to miss on a SP who literally pitched yesterday is truly baffling.

Agreed. I can even understand playing the super-cheap scrubs that don’t play for USA or DR or something to make the salaries fit – I mean you can find guys on the other teams that are equally cheap but actually play, but I can understand choosing Alex Bregman or AJ Ellis if it lets you get all the other guys you want. Or picking relievers. I don’t agree with the play, but at least I can see the argument.

It’s doing things like picking pitchers who pitched yesterday and, by rule, cannot pitch today, that baffles me. But hey, I’m quite happy to see it.

Watching the first game. I watch a lot of baseball (first season DFS though), and just seeing all the Home Runs in the first game. There were balls coming off the bat that had no business being close to HR clearing the fence. I think there were 6 HR that game… Looked up the altitude after that and I was pretty convinced.

The other thing is I remember pitching in a tournament in Reno NV in high school. Couldn’t get my slider to break at all with the high altitude, and it was a pretty helpless feeling as a pitcher. It’s more than just the ball travelling further, pitching is harder in high altitude too.

You mean to tell me Alex Liddi doesn’t routinely hit balls out of a stadium?

It was this that did it for me: http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/31426364/v1235080283/venpur-rosario-triples-scores-on-riveras-sac-fly

It was literally a one-handed swing and the ball one-hopped the fence. You can even see Felix point to it as if it was a routine shallow fly ball.

  • Tristanhoh

Yelich in the 3 hole tonight.

  • mjsimpson24

    Venezuela getting the bounces now.

  • harrytruman3

Ugh. 5-5 now. Any powerhouses getting knocked out is good for Israel ultimately. Baldy just rooting for this now.

  • mjsimpson24

No wonder the US doesn’t do well in WBC. This lineup looks awful.

It took me until after the 1st game when Amador and Colabello were crushing the ball with ease. Also, I recalled the controversy surrounding the NBA and the altitude in Mexico City.

      RG Overall Ranking

Well I think he’s inferring that the lineup could start something like betts, donaldson, trout, harper, Bryant, goldschmidt, pedroia, seager, Posey, Murphy, with Kershaw on the mound
