      2017 Blogger of the Month

The soccer forums have been dead for a while, so why not start up a World Cup talk before it actually begins.

Here are the odds to take it:
    Germany 4/1
    Brazil 4/1
    France 6/1
    Spain 6/1
    Argentina 7/1
    Belgium 10/1
    England 20/1
    Portugal 20/1
    Uruguay 25/1
    Poland 30/1
    Colombia 40/1
    Russia 40/1
    Croatia 40/1
    Saudi Arabia 1000/1

And here’s a concise article previewing the whole tournament – 2018 World Cup Preview

    Let’s start the debate!

Why does Ronaldo always look like he’s about to score 40fpts every time I fade him?

    gg.
    Spain 3- Portugal 3
    Ronaldo 3
    Diego Costa 2, Nacho

Russian and Iran lead their groups.

Also, we’ve watched four World Cup group stage matches and all four referees have been competent. That has not happened in the history of the World Cup—by now we should have seen a political appointment from Paraguay or Uzbekistan embarrass himself and ruin a game. It’s almost as if they hired officials based on their competence. Collina be praised!

Damn that was a great game…at least what I saw of it. a little friendly hatred for the other side, 2 world class teams (well world class player in Portugals Ronaldo). Offensive and counter offensive styles of attack… Great Game.
    Vai Brasil

Got 80% of my money back, I guess the next game we don’t have to think about fading Ronaldo.

Will be fading Messi tomorrow because I don’t learn.

Re: the refs – blatant dive by Said of Morocco, replays showed it, but VAR doesn’t tell the ref to book him, ridiculous.

I will always take profits when a faded Ronaldo hatty doesn’t kill me, let alone double my entry.
As a fan of the game, really happy the DFS world got to take this one in, and hopefully despite any sour losses, people get excited about this sport going forward.

The podcast guru’s said we should fade the Spain match, I did

Yeah, so this is my first go at soccer and shame on me for not digging deeper on my own but could all the “experts” have gotten this slate more wrong? Is that the nature of the sport in general or more because it is World Cup. Looking for any tips and thoughts on how to move forward for the remainder after getting washed today.

+1 from me, Although I did play Ronaldo and was screaming when Costa was subbed out. Ronaldo has something to prove this world cup as the best player in the world as only 3 goals in 13 appearances prior to today, and well Costa just scores goals. Can’t figure out why he only has 20 Int’l appearances.

I am such a degenerate, set a lineup for the 6 am France/Aus match from ‘Projected Lineups’ am drinking some Jamesons today so hope I wake up at 5:30 to see if what I set starts.

    this.
Like, it’s also trouble that the WC is like four game slates max, so any mistake is amplified bigtime.
I faded Ronaldo except one GPP card, the daily dollar. I also doubled my entries for the day. A big part of this was having so much Giminez and Nacho, but still, it was a very bizarre slate.

Like, having Ronaldo+Diego Costa would have been near impossible to do intentionally.
DC wasn’t the known starter, and his salary made it an impossible pivot. On top of this, if you went Ronaldo/DC it almost emptied your salary account to 4.8k per after build, and that’s before knowing DC was starting, so I dunno, guess the only way Ronaldo would have worked today would’ve been with an Iran CS bonus. But Ronaldo and DC together only happened for me with a needed late swap.

Not known but there was more than enough out their that he was the implied starter. Why I paired the 2 to start. My downfall was the Morocco GK. Paired Godin and Giminez and also played Bentancur as he showed good flashes and liked his play through qualifying rounds. Lets just say Morocco made me go from a fantastic day to an ‘OK’ day.

I’m not entirely sure but I think a mod might have moved all the soccer comments on the golf thread to here.

Or was the elections of where bids go worse? by far ’18 or ’22 should of went to the US but only now get an watered down field of 48 and only 40 games cause the only reason we got it was cause of a 3 country bid! Believe its the first time it was given and split beyond 3 countries. Morocco who submitted last minute bid almost took it home. Sorry I am a bit peeved right now as it should be here right now and no less than ’22 but both bids were rejected which is laughable because of the bribes. Qatar announced an air cooling system that couldn’t be produced so it was pushed back 3 months starting in November. So don’t praise Collina yet as I think the only reason it may be working so far is the ‘VAR’ that reviews pretty much everything although first few games the Refs have called clean but missed a few calls.

Sampaoli already confirmed his XI earlier today with Aguero up top.

Caballero; Salvio, Otamendi, Rojo, Tagliafico; Biglia, Mascherano; Meza, Messi, Di María; Aguero.

How the hell has Argentina not had more success in the World Cup with that squad. They are STACKED.

Well… for one thing is played every 4 years…. than they won it twice, I hardly consider that underachieving, they come right behind Brasil (5), Germany (5), Italy (4)

Than, looking at their starting 11, their 3 up top are obviously fantastic but the rest of the squad is pretty average for them.

One way to look at it: how many of that 11 would start for Germany? Messi, obviously. Aguero over Werner. Anyone else? I see names on that list that wouldn’t be considered for the 23. Do you think Meza’s better than Leroy Sane? He’s at home.

There are different levels of stacked—Argentina made the final four years ago and I don’t see how that’s underachieving.

  • JH822547

I’d have DiMaria over Ozil but yeah their defense is not top class.
