The soccer forums have been dead for a while, so why not start up a World Cup talk before it actually begins.
Here are the odds to take it:
Germany 4/1
Brazil 4/1
France 6/1
Spain 6/1
Argentina 7/1
Belgium 10/1
England 20/1
Portugal 20/1
Uruguay 25/1
Poland 30/1
Colombia 40/1
Russia 40/1
Croatia 40/1
Saudi Arabia 1000/1
And here’s a concise article previewing the whole tournament – 2018 World Cup Preview
Let’s start the debate!
I havnt played DFS soccer very much. only on DK. I found without following the leagues, its not very smart to play. It seems the scoring on alternative sites is really different than what I have seen in the past. Roster Strategy???
I pick goalie first (tentative higher salary of options) then go for my top 2 DFS point scorer’s in forwards or forwards/midfield. Always leave defense for last and choose best option for the salary. Anyone want to share…playing the countries not the individuals.
wrong thread sorry
I believe Yahoo is indeed sitting it out (sadly).
It’s odd. They were running a full selection of slates all year—CL, EL, EPL, Spain, MLS…and now they don’t bother running WC slates?
I know they were having some trouble with overlay on EPL sometimes but it would have been easy enough to just run smaller GPPs if it was a worry.
I’m disappointed to say the least—that’s where I did most of my playing this past year and I felt like I was getting the hang of the scoring system there. If anyone from Yahoo ever reads this, it’d be nice to know what’s going on. I hope they aren’t thinking of dropping the sport altogether.

Unfortunately we won’t be supporting World Cup. I pushed hard internally to try to get the engineering resources to support it, but was not successful. Our systems were built assuming one team per player—adding a second ‘national’ team was not an easy fix, and would have required fairly significant work and testing. Coupled with losing a couple of engineering resources this spring, and golf slipping into June—we just couldn’t fit in the World Cup work.
We’ll still be running other club team soccer contests as normal.
If Scarlett Johansson ever reads this I’d love to go out some time….
Daniel’s good, but I upped the odds by sending him a PM.
Maybe you could try that with Scarlett?
Huh? Am I missing something? Does she plays DFS now?
whoscored.com is your best bet. They do a solid job of breaking down statistical categories and have a prop rating tool.

DraftKings Community Team guest post on behalf of Matt Birnbach:
I am excited to announce the World Cup is back at DraftKings.
As someone who helped launch the World Cup on DraftStreet (along w Markness) four years ago, the product has evolved tremendously. We hope to use this summer’s tournament as a “re-launch” of our soccer product on DraftKings as we look to the 2018 EPL (and other domestic leagues) and Champions League Seasons.
Below is everything you’re going to want to know about the WC on DK!
- Matt Birnbach, World Cup Product Manager at DraftKings
PS: DK Community Team has been very busy working behind the scenes on a new initiative for the player community, we will be back soon to answer questions and take notes to share your insights with our co-workers at DraftKings.
Wow! Thank you so much for the stat pack!
Yes seriously. Thank you guys. This is an extremely helpful tool. I’d like to think I do good research on my own, but this is over the top. Very cool.
It’s finally here!
Any sneaky Saudi plays today?? Do they sneak one in?
Taiseer Al-Jasamm is the best ‘safe’ Saudi play, Al-Sahlawi up front has the upside.
I’d say it’s about a 35-40% chance they score.
I’m covering the possibility Dzyuba comes off the bench for Russia and makes an impact.
Only have $60 worth of entries, because y’know.
Wow the $2 Nutmeg is only half full, they are going way too ambitious in these tourneys, wish I hadn’t committed so much to the US Open Golf.
I’ve never played soccer before. I’m assuming the green check mark indicates starters and you only want to pick these players?
I had a lineup picked out and noticed last minute 4 of 6 were not playing. How come many of the best guys werent starting?
Of all people Dzagoev gets injured smh
Attacking players are generally more valuable than defensive players. Any Russian attacking player is going to be valuable in this spot against a weaker team but they can only play so many for the balance of the team.
The difference between the Soccer and NFL pricing is being a starter is a much bigger deal in Soccer than NFL. Unless a player starts you generally don’t consider them for selection.
So for instance in the NFL you have a starting running back at 9K and a back up at 5K. This allows you to still pick a back up on the assumption that they will rotate into the game and get a few snaps.
In Soccer the difference in price between starter and back up is not as big, because they either start or you can’t consider them for selection. In this case Smolov was the star player (12K) and Dzyuba (11.8K) is the back up.
In the recent Champions League Final a few predicted that Gareth Bale who wasn’t starting would come on from the bench and score and that won them a GPP so it’s a legitimate strategy that can be employed. However if you’re playing one line up casually for fun you only consider the players with a green tick.
I played a Saudi non-starter at FD today because it let me jam in Golovin/Smolov/Samedov. Not sure that’s going to work (Smolov needs a goal) but it least it was contrarian.
Never played on FD but I take it it’s a bit different in that respect.
why does smolov have a zero on fanduel when he had a chance for a goal, handled the ball ?
also, watch Dzyuba come in in the 2nd time and score.
no dzuyba no cash, called that shit
Nice call
