Yahoo is getting in the holiday spirit with a $1M prize pool contest for NFL Week 15, including $250K in GUARANTEED overlay. I suspect actual overlay will be much more, but hopefully not too much more so we can run this a few more times this season. We’re looking forward to a fun 2019 across Yahoo Fantasy, and wanted to end 2018 with a bang.

Click here when making your first deposit and use promo code ‘grinders30’ to get $30 worth of free play, and as always feel free to reach out with any questions or feedback.

    Dan

P.S. Sorry, we still don’t operate in FL and Canada.

With the changes to tax code regarding misc deductions you can’t really claim DFS as hobby income, there’s some discussion to this in the tax thread going on but it’s a pretty big change for those that have used it in the past.

Hmm, I thought you could still claim it as hobby income, just not deduct losses from one site to offset losses from another site if you do.

They answered by saying this “Yahoo Sports doesn’t provide tax reporting information” that’s pretty clear cut. You can figure your own wins/losses and report them or if you pass PayPal’s threshold listed below you will get a 1099k from them. It’s really not that hard, there are a lot of companies/businesses trying to get out of the payment processing business as the fees they pay Visa/MC/Amex etc are high. There are grocery stores in my geographical area that have actually stopped taking Visa due to their fees. I’d much rather companies take action like that versus raising prices or in this case raising rake etc. to cover payment processing.

    PayPal tax form threshold.
$20,000 USD in gross payment volume from sales of goods or services in a single calendar year
200 payments for goods or services in the same year*

Why does the IRS require DK and FD to issue them? Just too much grey area on yahoo, So we can play and win all we want and never get a 1099? If that was true they would have to fight players away

The IRS explicitly doesn’t require a 1099 for anything payed via PayPal or a credit card. I believe DK and FD can issue actual checks or wires so they are required to.

  • Pbasniper

By using only PayPal they don’t have to issue 1099 forms according to tax code/law. I’m sure there are other savings involved besides not having to worry about payment processors such as not having to have man hours tied up in tracking/issuing 1099’s or spending man hours dealing with tax questions. They can just say hey we don’t do 1099’s track your own wins/losses and thanks for playing.

A nightmare meaning you’ll have to keep your own spreadsheet with your win/loss? It seems like your complaint is they wont send you a form? Also casino win/loss are extremely unreliable as any machine play is only tracked if using a players card and table play is tracked by humans who are prone to errors, you should be tracking your own win/loss in a casino.

You don’t even need to keep your own spreadsheet. You can download your Yahoo contest history in CSV format and easily see your net profit or loss. I use the CSV for my own spreadsheet but it only takes a couple of clicks to total your entry fees, your winnings and then calculate your profit/loss.

Not sure who is running the dfs department but whoever it is needs to be replaced for incompetence.

  • Srmustangs

You guys do a great job. Fair contests with decent pricing. I get that depositing via paypal is probably easier on the back end especially with verification but yes adding the ability to pay via credit card not via paypal would probably increase signups. I agree with an earlier poster that yahoo could be well primed to blow the others out of water. Lower rake and even increasing limits to maybe 50 would lead to bigger contests and more churn. I also think yahoo should just create a sports betting exchange such as matchbook has overseas. The stock market of sports. Get rid of the ridiculous vig the others are offering and the fact that many of these other books are banning sharps and those that might actually win a few bucks. YFTW! Take your “incompetence” to the top!

With the deposit bonus… if I deposit $30 and get the $30 it comes in YSRP. Can I mix the 2 to enter contests..? So for example get 3 entries in the $20 total?

For existing customers I can do a matching deposit in deposit bonus. DM me your display name or email on the account and I’ll manually add it. This is the 4% drip bonus that is earned over time.

    Daniel,
Thanks for this great offer and tournament!

I am still clearing part of my original deposit from a few years ago. If redeposit for this bonus match, will it stack on whats is left of my last bonus, or supercede it? Either way I plan to redeposit, was just curious how it would be handled with existing bonus.

    thanks!

    thanks!

    it just adds to it

bonuses all release at the same 4% rate anyway so if you get another bonus there’s nothing to worry about.

You don’t have to use all the YSRP at once. But you can’t split an entry fee into half cash and half YSRP, if that’s what you’re asking…

i just joined yahoo but never entered any promo code..how do i get a bonus as i have never deposited..if you do not issue a 1099 i sure as hell would never declare any winnings

  • mambaland

    FROM YAHOO

Deposit bonuses were only available for a limited time.

We’re no longer offering this one-time Deposit Bonus for players making their first deposit, but will honor the 4% accrual rate that’s released over time for our players that have already received the bonus. Remember, Pro Leagues, Private Cash Leagues, and other pay-to-play Fantasy Sports games did not receive this Deposit Bonus.
