I’ve been playing at Yahoo since they rolled out the DFS, and have noticed certain accounts always have identical lineups. I have tracked them pretty closely in H2H and 50/50 games, and just wanted others to be aware of this. I would not make these accusations unless I was very certain of it. I understand that sharing lineups is not against the rules, but wanted others to be aware of this. The following accounts have identical lineups 99% of the time. Sometimes, there will be one player that is different, but all three accounts almost always have the exact same 8 players. Not sure if this is already common knowledge, but just wanted others to be aware of this.

How is this significant, or even as issue? Maybe they work together?

My friend was telling me about beginner 50/50 contests he entered on other sites where 7/20 lineups were all the same. Three people sharing lineups on a high dollar contest is hardly shocking. If you’re entering $1000 contests you should expect to play the toughest competition. Would it really help if each player slightly changed the lineup instead?

Using an example I saw recently
I’m in a 100 man 50/50. You would assume you are playing 100 users, top 50% wins money.
11 users had an identical lineup…now this is not one worked on together, 99% sure it was a lineup that was purchased and could probably prove it, but where it came from isn’t all that relevant to the point.
8 users had another identical lineup.
All 19 of those lineups cashed. So we have 19/50 or 38% of the money won by 2 lineups, which likely were not even created by the users who entered them.

You don’t think that’s an issue?
You wouldn’t be upset or feel cheated if you placed 51st?
If nothing else the current DFS public narrative is negative and this could only add to that, not to mention it’s hard to argue skill not gambling in the instances of this where people are playing lineups they did not create.

Admittedly, this may not be as big an issue to others, and to each their own….and in the above example, I cashed, so me personally being infuriated by situations like this doesn’t even stem from losing money, simple the optics.

Having thought about it more today as well, I would be fine if sites addressed this only in smaller leagues, single-entry, cash, etc. If people want to work together, use optimizer’s, purchase lu’s etc and throw them in big multi-entry GPP’s trying to hit it big that should be the outlet for those actions.

Hey guys, just want to step in here and say that we are currently investigating this situation, and I appreciate all the thoughtful comments.

Thank you @DanielHaight. Please review all their cash game lineups from the last few months. Please let us know what Yahoo’s findings are, and what actions Yahoo plans to take going forward.

How often do those 19 lineups suck and not cash? Now you have to beat less people.

    It works both ways.

    Hey guys,

I work with 2 other players: MakeItRain84 and a player who goes by aboveandbeyond on DK, absoluteworst FD, and birdwings on yahoo. Yahoo first started last summer during MLB season, and for the first 2-3 months of MLB my group was really bad, so every day we would look at birdwings/csuram lineups and try to improve. So when yahoo started and the lobby was empty, my friend decided to make his name birdwings since he idolized BW in MLB and to scare off pros from playing him and never changed it. Funny though that now he plays as big or bigger than the real birdwings :)

As for playing the same lineups, we have our own model, use the same projections, and usually play the same lineup. However, we try our best to rotate in who plays the 10 man doubles each day, and only have 2 of us play it if there is overlay (almost never anymore). You can back check the past few weeks, only one of me/MiR/birdwings plays it each day.

People work together in this industry, I don’t sell my lineups to anyone, don’t publicize my projections, don’t tout, just work with other players and we often like the same lineup the best. This is not against the rules, and I have never cheated in DFS or poker.

    I really don’t care.
I do routinely beat these lineups or I wouldn’t play….I hate it regardless, it’s really against what the contests are set up to be.

As I posted in the CBB thread – I see it again today…of the 50 lineups currently cashing 10 are one identical lineup and 8 are another…Those people aren’t “playing” they are gambling….They are stealing money from intelligent DFS players and it’s a joke. I say that now regardless of them actually cashing, or if I cash as well.

Edit* – I’ll try to shut up about this now, because some people aren;t going to be as passionate about this as me, so I’ll stop now from being the broken record.
Last thing I will say, in regards to how this effects things…Now further along in the day, the 50/50 I made reference to currently has a cash line higher than the GPP. The dupe lineups are hitting and the cash line has been artificially inflated to the point that it;s harder to cash than a GPP.

Me and my girlfriend work together like that also. Well, it’s really more like “here’s your lineup tonight.” Gives us common rooting interest :)

I deleted the post where the member said you were a known cheater from online poker. I asked around and searched and didnt even find an accusation.

I understand the strategy behind taking the name Birdwings on Yahoo, but I really don’t think it’s worth it. It’s deceptive and is causing additional grief for both your buddy and the real Birdwings.

I’m sorry, but taking a top player’s user name on a new DFS site feels like a really scummy move to me.

It is. But he can rectify it by contacting the yahoo rep who commented in this thread and ask to change his screen name. And if he doesn’t, it would be great if the rep took it upon himself to ask yahoo to require the user to change it.

A clear sign of daut44 and makeitrain84 collusion is happening tonight on dks King cup challenge where they both entered bogus lineups to ensure they don’t end up in the same group for the group stage. Players they rostered include exam, embid, dekker, cappella, mcw both ruled out well prior to tip

  • Mphst18

Yes they have and these two are prime examples of why the masses have a distain for dfs, a small percent of the people try to game the system and the people who bear the burden of it are not those individuals but rather everyone else abiding by the terms. While they are kicked out of the kings cup my guess is they got their entry fee back and can still play on the site with their syndicate/collusion so again no real punishment as the sites need them to make money off of.

Oh boy here is the peanut gallery genius always willing to run his mouth never willing to pony up and play. Do all these people you speak of draft exum, and embid to collude to not be in the same group?

If they all entered the same line up wouldnt that have put them in different groups? What difference does it make that they used injured players? There is so many people out there who sell or share line ups I guess I dont understand why now a stance is being taken.

Isnt finishing last in that contest bad for them? They are then matched up with the teams who finished at top correct? Wouldnt finishing 14th, 15th, and 16th or something in that range have been better?
