Hi—unfortunately we had to shut down our Missouri operations as of today. You should have received this email from us a short time ago. I can’t share any more detail, other than we are going to work with the Missouri Gaming Commission to make sure we can get back into Missouri as soon as possible.

“As you may be aware, Missouri recently legalized paid fantasy sports and the Missouri Gaming Commission adopted emergency rules that take effect on October 1, 2016, which require an operating license to offer paid fantasy contests in the state. Permanent rules will be issued after March, 2017. Yahoo has decided not to apply for a license to continue operating in Missouri during this interim period. Yahoo is a public company with multiple product offerings other than fantasy sports and cannot reasonably comply with elements of the state’s application process that we believe are inapplicable to our overall business. As a result we are temporarily suspending our paid fantasy sports offering to Missouri residents. We will continue to work with the Missouri Gaming Commission to try to resolve the issues and aim to return our paid fantasy sports offering to Missouri as soon as we can.

Any entries you have for upcoming contests or contests that are already under way will be allowed to finish. You will continue to have full access to your account to withdraw funds. You will not be able to add funds or enter new paid contests.”

I said it when the bill passed that people can be happy about regulation. However, don’t be surprised if we soon are down to only 2-3 options to play on. Many of these sites will not be able to pay the state mandated license fee, let alone the taxes.

Not saying it’s a bad thing, but I don’t see how many sites other than FD and DK will be able to legally operate in states like Missouri.

We will be back in MO. It was not about fees or taxes. Our issue was about the application itself and the fact that many parts of it did not apply to a large company like Yahoo that offers more than just fantasy sports (mail, search, media, etc.). We are going to work with the Gaming Commission to ensure that the permanent rules allow for us to come back into the state.

Good to hear. I’ve never played on Yahoo, but I also never want to see the options shrink for players.

I was starting to like yahoo as a lower max. entry option, but cannot play now. Hopefully your issue is resolved soon. Do you have a timeline?

Never! Still kicking—we were waiting for the Verizon acquisition to go through, and are now in the process of applying to Missouri. Unfortunately we clearly won’t hit the start of the NFL season, but hope to get back online within a few months!

I don’t think yahoo will get back online in Missouri by the time the 2020 NFL season starts if ever. I’ve heard for the last years, “in a few months” “couple more months”.. Blah blah blah

As of today (Jan 14, 2018) Yahoo still won’t take funds from MO (or AL, AZ, DE, FL, HI, IA, ID, LA, MT, NV, and WA according to the app).

Our application in Missouri is pending, similar to every other site that has applied there. No site has been granted a license yet. However, as the other sites were already operating at the time the initial applications were due, they are allowed to continue to operate while their applications are pending. We missed the original deadline due to our own recent corporate changes, and so we are not allowed to operate until granted a full license.

I know it doesn’t help, but we’re doing everything we can to keep it moving forward.
