So… I checked out the slate this morning and lo and behold, Yahoo, which as recently as this week has advertisements out there lauding it’s 10 max entry format has a 150 mme gpp.

I’m not against the offering, but can’t understand why they are making this hard pivot while actively advertising that 10 max lineups is the reason to play at Yahoo.

But more importantly, there’s no csv lineup export option. So it’s going to be 150 lineups entered by hand…

I’m not sure what to think of this.

so, even without the csv upload we’re already starting to see max entries from the whales. I can understand upping the entry limit for the marquee 400k baller contest. that’s fine. but now we’re seeing small contests with 100+ entry limits. Case in point, $25 100k guaranteed which is only 4.4k entries. That should be a 10 max. It’s 125 max now. Guess who has max entered 125 times? Bric75. This is only going to get worse. I’ve played consistently ~$50 every night on yahoo for a few years (NBA,NFL,MLB,EPL). If they continue going down this path, i’m going to have to move to FantasyDraft I guess.

I never thought I would see the 150 max entry days at Yahoo, but here we are. A stunner!

Having played exclusively Yahoo DFS pretty much from day 1, I’ve seen it all. Every year week 1 has featured the million dollar prize pool. In years past, the entry was $10 and this year it was $25. A noticeable jump, but the metrics are the same ($1,000,000 prize pool).

The difference between this offering in week 2 and other years and in other years the week 2 pool was $750K followed by week 3 being $500K and trickling on down until we are left with the $100K guaranteed in the top GPP by week 17. It’s been the same pattern every year. So, to that end, this is a huge difference. This is the first time Yahoo has had back to back million dollar total prize pool guaranteed so that is something.

As for the whales, it’s no mystery who those names are. And they already pollute and contaminate the site to no end with absolutely no shot to avoid them. Regardless of how hard you try and how tiny the pool is, you will be playing a handful of the elites without fail. I would FAR rather see Yahoo find a way to contain and preserve the micro levels in the micro contests (i.e. $1 10-person 50/50) with some sort of limit or protection against the moklovins, Bric, papagates that enter 100% of these contests. Unfortunately, the powers that be go entirely silent on even this topic being broached by the masses and clearly the lack of communication from Yahoo is actually a pretty clear message of how they will respond (they don’t care and moklovin and company will be able to enter as many $.25 and $1 contests as Yahoo can generate). It’s the classic case of sometimes what isn’t said is your answer.

As for this 150 max entry thing, I’m not really concerned one way or the other. There are other large GPP’s at Yahoo for $10, $7, $2, $1, and $.25….all of which have 10 max entry limits. Also, I have yet to actually see the whales actually enter more than one lineup. All these jackwagons do is mass enter the same lineup 10 times and none of them think otherwise. Will they even bother submitting more than one lineup? I’ve yet to see that with the 10 max entry level so it’s hard to envision them changing up their approach with the 150 max entry. However, if and when this exporting .csv (another gold medal marketing point for playing at Yahoo by not having the ability to do that) becomes a reality, then the game changes. Lets be honest here….like $3,000 matters to any of these players. Chump change. Most likely this will just let these guys enter their same lineup 150 times and they won’t think twice about it.

I will most likely have the same number of entries into this giant thing (2) as I did last week in the million dollar thing for $25.

So, I suppose to wrap it up….I’m not necessarily against this change, as this is the only GPP that has this 150 max thing and all the other GPP’s are as they always were. If this change extends farther than 2 or 3 GPP’s, then it’s going to be not as appealing. And again, if anything needs to be fixed at Yahoo, it’s finding a way to prevent moklovin, papagates and company from wiping out the little guys on the $1 and $.25 level in 50/50’s that pay out $1.80 if you win. Those guys should police themselves on their own, but they are the most selfish, and completely unconcerned about any type of fair play with Yahoo’s blessing to take pennies from the poor man. Shame on them and shame on Yahoo for offering zero protection against this type of flagrant abuse over and over and over without any chance to get away from it.

Me personally, if they are going to max enter then they max enter. I don’t really care if they have a unique lineup.

What I HATE is lozingitall, poopyboy, kobblerdog….that 100% have the SAME LINEUP every single week in EVERY single contest. If it’s not so overtly blatantly obvious that they are lineup sharing, then I dunno what is. Just seems sooner or later enough is enough and it’s kind of disgusting that they ALWAYS have the same lineup week in week out in EVERY contest. They pretty much flaunt it and rub it in the face without any concern or regard.

and will be adding in some restrictions so our heaviest volume players cannot enter small stakes contests

Honestly, the 150 max things concerns me less than the quoted text here. It gets old seeing Bric75, etc entering the quarter contests, $1 contests, etc. Compounding this problem is the recent change (discussed earlier in this thread) in which smaller contests now have higher max number of entries. It used to be 1 entry per 100 total entries up to 1000 and anything over 1000 entries was 10 max (something along those lines). Now there are contests with 200 – 300 entries with a 7 entry max. This makes the quoted text vastly more important because now instead of seeing Bric75 entering twice, you’re seeing him run a 7 lineup train in a smaller contest. Then if he and Moklovin and whoever else are using the same lineup that their shared lineup optimizer created, you’re up against a 20+ entry train in a small contest. I realize this is super cool if you beat that train but if you were only interested in beating one of them, you could just take a H2H against them.

For me personally, I don’t see a huge issue with Yahoo trying out 150 max on their flagship contests to bring in more players and revenue. They’re trying to run a business. I feel like the real damage would come if the smaller contests continue to see higher max entry limits and remain unrestricted to high volume, nosebleed stakes players, thus drying up the number of reasonable contests available for low stakes players to grind out a profit and continue playing.

I was really excited to see Yahoo re-opened to us Floridians so I made a deposit for the sole purpose of throwing a few bullets into their big GPP every week. I’m not naive. I know I don’t have much of a chance of winning but the opportunity to drop a few $20 entries and hope for the $50K first prize or whatever it is now (it seems to change every week now), and not compete against the pros was really enticing. Now that I’m back to having no real prayer of winning, I’m probably gonna pull my money and deposit into DK or FD, because it’s pointless for me to spend any time or energy on a third site, that offers me no edge whatsoever.

The big Yahoo GPP has had overlay every single week, but yeah, you’re probably right, equal edge as DK and FD 15% rake, no difference whatsoever.

Yeah, I don’t get it. Yahoo gives money away on a regular basis, to the point that it’s feasible for a pretty high % of people to profit in the long run. But nope, DK and FD it is!

The Yahoo GPP has had less than zero rake every week and without having to pay deposit or monthly fees, but obviously Fantasy Draft is also a way better option that FD or DK.

recapping the Yahoo baller, since people are talking about it:

Week 1: https://sports.yahoo.com/dailyfantasy/contest/5091731 Was rake-free if it filled and did not fill. About 260k of overlay. $25 entry.
Week 2: https://sports.yahoo.com/dailyfantasy/contest/5268478/ Same as above. About 190k of overlay. $20 entry.
Week 3: https://sports.yahoo.com/dailyfantasy/contest/5347747/ 10% rake if it filled. First 150 max contest. About 48k of overlay. $10 entry.
Week 4: https://sports.yahoo.com/dailyfantasy/contest/5416455 10% rake if it filled. About 10k of overlay. $10 entry
Week 5: https://sports.yahoo.com/dailyfantasy/contest/5481016/ 10% rake if it filled. About 14k of overlay. $10 entry

I’ve played all of them with as many lineups as I could find time to build but I have not been lucky so far.

Depends on how much someone plays….low volume players on DK who complete the Ironman for NHL, NBA, and MLB and collect rewards along the way, essentially play rake free as well. It’s about $350 dollars worth of rewards. So if you play $5-$10 per night you’re essentially playing rake free. You do have to work for it though 😉

last year it was even better than rake free because you could do the daily list for MLB and get 100 FPPs/crowns just for that, plus all the achievements (and even more if you bothered to complete the missions). I kept telling people last season what a great deal it was. Completing the daily list only cost $1.75 in entry fees (they didn’t have dime contests, so you needed to do a $1 league contest and then three quarter entries into a different type of contest).

Awesome….big fish can now csv enter 150 and play all the smallest contests. I loved yahoo, but I’m not sure I can play there much now
