I know there was some talk a few months ago about Yahoo breaking into the DFS scene. Does anyone have any updated information on that?

  • kamuy

Last week I saw that they opened up MLB Pro Leagues for season long. What interested me most was there is now a “Fantasy Wallet’. When you go use the Fantasy Wallet link there is a section for transactions, and they have “Daily Fantasy”, and “Full Fantasy” as the type of transactions you can look at. So its coming soon.

I heard rumors of it, but wasn’t sure if it was public.

Guess it is now. Not sure what to take from this, but it is interesting to say the very least.

they hyped it up it on their earnings report conference call in april. they release their next set of earnings in 2 weeks on 7/21. they almost have to give an update on what their doing.

I just wanna know if it will be snake/auction draft based like the rest of its site. My moneys on it will because it will please the existing user base but who knows with these sites. They said they will be taking a new unique approach to DFS well damn can we get a presser or something its july for crying out loud.

I think its going to be similar to SI.com’s product – pickem, etc.

  • dornacher3

I heard that Yahoo would have daily in time for Fantasy Football Season. Is this correct?

I would have to imagine creating a Pick’em / snake Only website would be a Negative EV decision, Lets just hope they follow the draftstreet blueprint and offer a little bit of something for everyone.

That was in reference to their Senior Exec of Fantasy moving to FanDuel.

As for the game itself….it will be interesting to see what they roll out & how aggressive they are with prize pools or if they try to make it a more socially focused game.

they already have all the infrastructure to support a draft format though so they’ll probably start with something like that

I really don’t think allowing their existing fantasy football userbase to play on their existing infrastructure but way more often for way more money will be -EV in any way for Yahoo

Yahoos base is in the millions so for them to make their existing users use a format they’re already using is a +EV move imo. Yahoo will fill h2h/3man/5man draft in a matter of seconds and larger 1’s in a matter of minutes. As far as GPPs go who cares there’s more to fantasy than a get rich quick dream.

Its only right for Yahoo to open with a snake format imo i think it will be a bad move for them to do sal cap only from the jump because thats FD/DK lane plus you will anger your existing base. Be different i’m tired of the same ol same ol.

Edit: post not relevant as yahoo does have GPP.

If Yahoo stays with the snake draft format of weekly contests, it will be time consuming to enter into many contests. In addition, if the existing customer base of Yahoo has been playing free seasonal leagues, it may not be easy to get these customers who have not played much DFS to start putting a lot of money into the new paid weekly draft leagues.

It also might be time consuming for a casual fan to start ranking players every week based on the matchups on who they want to draft. In addition, contests I think should be blind as I don’t think it would be too hard for several people who know each other to team up.

  • CrazyGabey

I think we can all agree that regardless of format, those are going to be some sooooooooffffftttttt games to start.

If Yahoo goes Snake Draft, I will be pounding those things like crazy. You know the max entry crowd is not going to waste time with a zillion different snake drafts for every contest. Those things will be soft as hell.

Just updated my apps about five minutes ago, and there is a new update for yahoo fantasy sports, I’m trying to grab the screenshot but my email is slow right now. Needless to say it says the following:

Win cash every day with our new game, Daily Fantasy! it’s just like our full season leagues you know and love except contests last just one day, you can pick any players you want within a salary cap, and you can win cash prize, Champions crowned daily!

    Here’s what else is new:
-League and team tools are now in one convenient place. Check the More tab for Head-to-Head League standings, Settings, Transactions and…well…more.
-Quickly switch between your full season leagues and Daily Fantasy Contests

It’s up and running for tonight. I don’t know how to screenshot on here, but here’s the scoring:

    0.6 an out
    2 pts for a strikeout
    -2 for earned run
    8 for a win

2 pts for single, 4 for double, 6 for triple, 8 for home run
    2 for a run
    2 for a rbi
    2 for a walk
    4 for a stolen base

    No negative offensive points

  • JHols1nger

Wow they have their lobby up with large guaranteed contests and everything.

  • jrwax2

Wow running a $50,000 Guaranteed GPP tomorrow. $2

Basically, looks like Fanduel scoring multiplied by 2. Slight difference on pitching outs and no penalty for offensive outs. Pricing seems pretty accurate for day 1. Willin Rosario at minimum price was about the best value I found.

Has anyone seen anything about prohibited states? Yahoo has been more strict on this in the past. I know IL users couldn’t play their “Pro Leagues” last year.

Looks exactly proportional to FD MLB scoring sans the pitcher outs and no negative offensive points.
