Daily Batter Breakdown: Tue, July 29th

Welcome to the Daily Batter Breakdown. Each day, with at least 8 games on the night slate, I’ll breakdown some of the best top tier hitters to target based on matchup. The biggest split taken into account will be left/right, but each player card will also show park factors, player salaries and then a description of why I’ll be targeting him. Be sure to check out the FAQ for more information on specific stats.

A big Tuesday night on tap for us DFS fanatics, and no Coors Field game today which again should make for an interesting and fun-filled night. Let’s get right to it.

1.011 1.035 $2,900 $7,750 $3,800 $64,900 $6,700 $7,350

Stephen Vogt

Vogt is still entirely too cheap on FD and DK and what makes it even more appealing on DK is that he’s not only catcher eligible, he’s also OF eligible. Both places I expect a high ownership percentage tonight against Feldman as the A’s are a top offense and Feldman isn’t good. While he’s given up more HR to righties, he’s still allowed over a .800 OPS to lefties and Vogt is the hottest hitter since being called up with a .377 avg and .944 OPS against righties.

1.0 0.99 $3,100 $9,350 $4,500 $77,800 $6,500 $9,350

Mark Teixeira

This play comes with a bit of an asterisk and a warning, because he has been having back problems but was able to pinch hit last night. I am still not sure if he’s going to be in the lineup, but if he is I love his matchup against Nick Martinez tonight. The Yankees over/under is set at 5 and they should be able to score a bunch of runs especially Teixeira who has done a good amount of damage to righties this year.

Article Image Ian Kinsler
Daily Breakdown Avg OPS HR% wOBA

1.058 1.090 $3,500 $8,900 $4,500 $67,000 $7,500 $8,800

Ian Kinsler

Kinsler has been scuffling a little bit lately, but his career record against lefties is still sparkling. Despite Quintana being a solid pitcher, the Tigers are still at 4.5 over/under in this game and with the reduced price on Kinsler, it’s definitely a solid time to buy while the price is low. Quintana isn’t going to put up a stinker, but Kinsler has a great shot at a good game and a low ownership %.

Article Image Adrian Beltre
Daily Breakdown Avg OPS HR% wOBA
Left/Right Splits 0.327 0.907 4.84% 0.392
Last 7 Days Splits 0.250 0.669 3.57% 0.295

McCarthy – RIGHT 0.292 0.768 3.25% 0.345
PARK-1 PARK-LR FD DD DK FF SS FTD
1.058 1.02 $3,900 $9,200 $4,800 $74,900 $7,900 $9,000

Adrian Beltre

Beltre keeps on getting results for the Rangers no matter how poor their team or how old he continues to get. He’s done well against righties this year with 13 of his 15 HRs and he has a nice wOBA against them. McCarthy has been solid since joining the Yankees and looks to be in a good spot tonight but I really like Beltre’s price for the potential he brings especially against a guy who isn’t that great against right handers.

Article Image Jed Lowrie
Daily Breakdown Avg OPS HR% wOBA
Left/Right Splits 0.240 0.674 1.18% 0.300
Last 7 Days Splits 0.300 0.848 5.00% 0.363

1.011 1.035 $2,700 $8,000 $4,300 $67,800 $5,100 $8,000

Jed Lowrie

Lowrie has been pretty good for the last week or so and seems to be putting some good swings on the ball. His price on FD is entirely too low still as he’s hitting at the top of an A’s lineup which is expected to score a lot of runs tonight against Feldman. Lowrie is a much better hitter than he’s shown and I have been playing him for the last week or so at this cheap price which has been working out very well.

Article Image Kevin Kiermaier
Daily Breakdown Avg OPS HR% wOBA
Left/Right Splits 0.344 1.034 5.60% 0.441
Last 7 Days Splits 0.250 0.65 0.00% 0.316

1.030 0.976 $3,500 $6,700 $3,900 $43,700 $7,100 $7,200

Kevin Kiermaier

Kiermaier will most likely be hitting low in the lineup tonight against Garza which isn’t great, and neither is his salary at FD. The one thing he does have going for him, and it is a huge thing, is his .994 OPS against right handers this year. He’s really done a ton of damage to right handed pitching and hit 7 homers in 140 at bats with a .336 average. He’s a solid option tonight especially on sites where his price is low like DraftDay.

Article Image Jose Bautista
Daily Breakdown Avg OPS HR% wOBA
Left/Right Splits 0.270 0.850 3.97% 0.374
Last 7 Days Splits 0.375 1.375 12.50% 0.561

De La Rosa – RIGHT 0.257 0.715 4.13% 0.319
PARK-1 PARK-LR FD DD DK FF SS FTD
0.969 1.057 $4,800 $12,650 $5,700 $110,700 $9,100 $12,400

Jose Bautista

I remember just last week when Bautista’s price was around 3,500 on FD which was ridiculously low for the hitter he is. Well, it’s up now after his hot streak but I still think he’s a solid play. He’s got the most 2 HR upside of almost anyone on the list and even against the righty De La Rosa he makes a solid play. He’s a bit matchup proof and I’m not scared about the R/R matchup.

Article Image Bryce Harper
Daily Breakdown Avg OPS HR% wOBA
Left/Right Splits 0.223 0.658 2.13% 0.285
Last 7 Days Splits 0.176 0.54 0.00% 0.279
Opp SP vs. LR Avg OPS HR% wOBA
Alvarez – RIGHT 0.271 0.698 5.23% 0.312
PARK-1 PARK-LR FD DD DK FF SS FTD
1.029 0.943 $3,200 $8,800 $4,500 $55,700 $7,100 $9,000

Bryce Harper

Harper had a couple of hits last night and his price went down on FanDuel, which doesn’t make much sense to me. It was a good matchup against Eovaldi, but he still has a solid matchup tonight against Alvarez. Alvarez is a bit of a mixed bag and does have some reverse splits but Harper has always been solid against right handed starters and his price across the industry is just way too low for the talent that he possesses. As we saw above with Bautista, use him while his salary is a bargain.

Article Image Brian McCann
Daily Breakdown Avg OPS HR% wOBA
Left/Right Splits 0.221 0.600 2.55% 0.268
Last 7 Days Splits 0.250 0.724 4.17% 0.322

PARK-1 PARK-LR FD DD DK FF SS FTD
1.058 0.99 $3,000 $7,500 $4,000 $67,800 $5,300 $7,550

Brian McCann

The shift has really ruined McCann’s season as it’s extremely hard for him to get any sort of hit into right field anymore. He has struggled as well so he’s only really a GPP option on most sites. I do like him tonight against Martinez who should struggle against the 5 over/under of the Yankees lineup and I wouldn’t be surprised at all if McCann hit one out.

Article Image Carlos Santana
Daily Breakdown Avg OPS HR% wOBA

Last 7 Days Splits 0.556 1.97 22.22% 0.791

Iwakuma – RIGHT 0.238 0.630 3.85% 0.277
PARK-1 PARK-LR FD DD DK FF SS FTD
1.011 0.992 $4,700 $11,750 $5,200 $98,400 $8,200 $10,700

Carlos Santana

Santana’s price has risen a ton but I do think his recent play has earned him a spot here. He’s not one of my favorite catcher plays but if you can get him at 1st or 3rd, I definitely like him here as one of the top options. He’s a boom or bust guy as well so I’m only looking his way in GPPs especially against a guy like Iwakuma. Hisashi has been a bit vulnerable to the HR ball this year and has struggled agaainst lefties, both of which Santana has going for him.
